He cared very little for the company. Both were hornless, and one of them was barely even worth his contempt. The other - he was alright, more intelligent than his mate, and seemed decent enough to be ashamed about her rambles. So, maybe he cared a little for the company, but the presence of the white mare really brought the experience down for him. Mauja hadn't been in the best of moods to start with, and perhaps it had been stupid of him to go to the Foothills in such a frame of mind, but the damage was already done (and awkwardly repaired, by Indy). He made a mental note not to seek out other leaders when ready to chew the branches off trees, though. It wasn't every day you had Indy around, and if he hadn't been there, well, let's just say the meeting with Gossamer would've ended on a much less pleasant note - and it had hardly ended pleasantly now, either.

Somehow he'd kept himself in check, though, and now they were approaching the desert-like outskirts of the Dragon's Throat. The last time he'd been here Azzuen had greeted him, and that stallion was on the same list as Indy - hornless he could respect, tolerate, perhaps even enjoy the company of... for now. For a moment he wondered if he was a misogynist without knowing, for he liked the warrior better than the leader, Kri, but he shook it off. Some mares he found great value in - Hellena, Seiren, his lost lamb Psyche... He made a mental note to raise Snö with something more solid than clouds in his head.

The sun was slipping below the horizon, promising gently that the lands would soon cool off, but the red rocks were still hot to the touch. Mauja had no desire to go seek them out deep within their own territory, nor amble along until found like he had the last time, but he wanted this over and done with quickly - mostly, he wanted answers. But he also wanted to get rid of his current company before he melted and did something very, very stupid. Drawing to a halt, the pale steed let out a sigh before breathing in the dry, still-hot air. He let it out in a deep call, asking for Kri's presence.

( Indy & Gossamer first, then Kri please ^^ No need for long posts as I'd rather this be a fairly quick thread. :3 and I'm sorry to everyone involved that Mauja's in such a bad mood for this thread series :c )

The heat was so much more intense when he stepped from the borders of his own home to that of another. At a point it felt as if his back was literally on fire. The stallion had even turned his head to make sure he hadn't burst into flames under the unforgiving heat of the sun. Sweat had begun to lather his body by the time they finally reached the Dragon's Throat and he would have given anything for a drink of cool water.

Instead the stallion stood firm, positioning himself so that what was left of his shadow covered his mate. She was far luckier than he was, having a white coat. Mauja was as well. His coat was only speckled with black. Still, he understood that they were both suffering as much as he was. They didn't even live here, though. He couldn't imagine how the ones that did could stand it. Indy flicked his tail against his legs and forced himself to relax when Mauja called for the leader. He hoped whoever it was was quick about arriving.

We are not our losses, we are only the extent to which we love.

She couldn't decide if he was ridiculously stubborn or just plain stupid. Mother flew beside mother with a vehement posture as her dark blue eyes locked onto the pale and spotted frame of Mauja the Frostdunce, who had wandered into her home yet again. She was not entirely surprised to find he had dragged another poor soul with him. From this distance, the mare wasn't entirely sure if it was a mare or stallion who accompanied the unicorn. One thing was certain, though, whoever it was likely would irritate her if he was in the companion of the stallion.

Kri's irritation was obvious to Onni, who flew quietly along side her mother, stealing quick, anxious glances at the practically steaming mare. However, she had a feeling that her mother was so irked because she did not trust the unicorn who felt so comfortable crossing her borders in his leisure. Her frustration was then understandable, as Onni also did not appreciate her home being seen as welcoming to intruders.

Still, whatever the reason, when the pair touched down on the ground near the contrasting pair, the Resolute one's anger was on her face, thinly veiled by a show of civility in a false smile upon her lips as she approached them. Kri nods to Indy, who she now can tell has a home in the Foothills. A questioning eyebrow then raises as her blue eyes tear away from the black body of the friesian and toward the unicorn. "Welcome brother of the Foothills," Kri's voice lingers toward Indy, before her tones take a turn for south as she addresses the next stallion. "And Mauja."

"I am Kri-"the silver bay says while looking toward Indy, "-and this is my daughter Onni." Onni twitches her wings nervously at the static energy of her mother's voice and the cold glances she is slipping the unicorn. At least she is not outwardly hostile... yet. "Welcome to the Throat," the tobiano says rather meekly, almost frightened to step on her mother's toes during an official visit from leaders of other herds.

( skipping Goss for now, because I don't want this to drag on. just jump in again whenever you have the time, Illu. ^^ )

It looked like coming here so soon again didn't exactly improve his standing with Kri. Of course, he wasn't even nearly as deep into her territory this time, perhaps just some hundred paces (he still wasn't entirely certain where they considered their border to be), but it seemed enough to make her really unhappy. He sighed inwardly. Did she have to be so complicated? Then again - in her situation, he probably would've been annoyed too. He settled for a somewhat neutral face as he studied the short mare, and her daughter, Onni. She seemed less hostile, perhaps a bit shy, or stupid; he didn't know. But it was irrelevant, for now. Mauja nodded at both of them but kept silent for a moment, allowing Indy to introduce himself, should he so wish. Gossamer too, he hoped. Inwardly he thought it unfair that the Foothills didn't get as hostile a greeting, but then again, every Helovian - except the racist unicorns - seemed to harbor some sort of suspicion of him. Oh, well. He'd just have to prove them wrong.

"Kri, Onni," he said by way of greeting, his voice pleasant, if a little more terse than last time he'd come in here. "We've had enough of the heat, and are heading to the Veins to ask Moon and Earth what they're going to do about it. Are you interested in coming along, to hear what they have to say?" The sooner they got out of this oven of a land, the better. The less time he had to spend around a mare who looked as if she wanted to do murder but couldn't, the better. He had no wish to accidentally make the relations between the Throat and the Edge worse - it was enough that Gossamer seemed ready to jump down his throat, too. Blasted mares.

The arrival of the two pegasus mares did not come as a surprise to Indy. What did come as a surprise was the way they were greeted by the one he quickly pegged as the leader. She was angry, and he could understand being unhappy about someone crossing your borders, he dealt with that on a daily basis, himself. He, however, did not greet the newcomers with anger. Instead he greeted them sterness and curiosity.

Still, Indy smiled pleasantly at the two mares and dipped his head respectfully. "Hello Kri, Onni." He said looking at them in turn. "I am Indy the Righteous, Chief of the Foothills herd." He fell into silence when Kri began to address Mauja, noting the tone of her voice as she spoke to him. Again, with mares being unpleasant in the presence of the unicorn. He began to wonder just what it was about him that put mares on edge.

Mauja began to speak, explaining their reason for the visit and the black stallion nodded. "I do believe it would be in every herd's best interest if we could get some answers from the Gods." he voiced. "If you are too busy to join us, Kri, you could send someone in your place." He hoped she would send someone in her place. The amount of anger coming off of her was uncomfortable.

Gossamer stands off to the side at the arrival of Kri and Onni, she appears regal as usual, but with a darker expression that betrays her annoyance with the pale horned one she travels with. It is a rare occasion for such a negative emotion to be visable upon her face, but despite her best efforts it will be obvoius to Kri and Onni that Gossamer is, at the very least, a bit twerked.

However, when the mention of visiting the Gods Three is brought up she silently nods in agreement. If both, or either of the mares were to catch the gaze of the Benevolent they would be greeted with a look speaking of Mauja but, hopefully, transmitting a reluctant agreement. Neither one of the stallions would see this exchange however, for Gossamer was slightly more careful than that.

We are not our losses, we are only the extent to which we love.

Onni watches the scene with growing anxiety written clearly on her face. Standing beside her shorter, stockier mother, the painted lady would seem an angel of mercy, with the air surrounding Kri growing darker with each syllable slipping from Mauja's mouth. Still, the bay pegasus keeps herself relatively in check, not making scoffing noises or remarks as the ice king speaks. Her blue eyes narrow slightly, with burning anger, but aside from that her appearance is not blatantly more threatening with each passing moment. Unless, like Onni, you are close enough to practically feel the mare's muscles coiling like a snake ready to snap at their prey.

After the unicorn speaks, Indy chimes in. His voice sounds nervous, but it is kind and polite. As he speaks, Kri's posture slips into a more relaxed stance, allowing Onni to let out a quiet breath beside her. Eyes of bright blue watch her mother with close attention, though the tobiano is obviously making an effort to make her vigilance less noticeable. Expectantly, her mother's face turns to look to Gossamer, allowing her a moment to speak before the pegasus have their say. When she remains silent, with a none too happy expression targeted also for Mauja, Kri turns back to a more universal look - addressing them all.

"I agree that it may do good for the Throat to be represented in this endeavor," she says, her voice flat and unenthusiastic, especially if her eyes stray toward the icy figure of Mauja. "Thank you for inviting us." Her face opens a falsely serene smile at the end of her words.

"Onni," Kri's voice cuts like a knife, and the leader does not turn to look at her daughter but instead keeps cool eyes on the unicorn. "Yes, mother?" the girl asks politely, her own face looking toward her mother's still. "You will accompany them." So I don't kill that bastard, Kri's eyes say as they finally turn to look at her daughter's face.

Wanting to escape from that violent expression, Onni turns a pale face toward the gathering. "It would be my pleasure," she says with a genuine smile - perhaps the first one of this encounter.

And nothing was making it better... Gossamer looked like she'd swallowed something unpleasant but tried to keep it down, Kri looked ready to do murder (he felt a respect for her because of it, actually, because he liked the chill of it beneath her false smile), Indy and poor Onni seemed uncomfortable with all the negative energy Mauja was attracting. To be completely honest, he was mildly unnerved by it too. He could understand that Gossamer was sulking, because let's face it, her idiotic plan of "taming" him or whatever had fallen flat on its face when she assumed he wanted help. It was ridiculous, but all the same understandable. Kri, though... She was just a menace, but the fact remained that he couldn't wrap his head around it. He had not a single clue what he'd done to piss her off so sorely, except take an uninvited look around. .. okay, maybe that warranted some bad feelings. He sighed inwardly. He'd do best to stay away from the Throat for a while, and hope she cooled off. And, if he ever had to come here again, he'd camp half a day out from her borders and wail until one of her escorts came to pick him up.

"You're more than welcome," he said, the barest hint of warmth in his neutral voice. Provoking her with too many smiles would just be stupid, and at the same time, he wanted to let her know that he meant her nothing ill. Yet. He might run an all-unicorn herd, but so far they'd not given any indication of wanting to take over Helovia or destroy other species. They just kept to their Edge, secluded, but peaceful. No point in telling the rest of the world otherwise. They weren't ready. Kri delegated her poor daughter to accompany them, and Mauja looked at her and her blue eyes - hesitantly returned the smile, just a small curving of his soft lips. "I must insist that it'll be our pleasure," he said quietly - unless Gossamer managed to steal Onni's mind, perhaps she and Indy would make this journey bearable, maybe even bordering on pleasant. Kri seemed tense, ready to spring, and Mauja bowed his head to her. "We'll be on our way, then. Fare well, Kri," were his parting words, and he turned around to face the paths that headed west, towards the Veins. With the delegation at his back or side, depending on where they preferred to walk, Mauja began to pad over in the direction of the Gods, the sun hot on his back.
