 Ru</style>

 soft to the touch.</style>

They were wild, they were free, they were young.

Okay, so maybe Hotaru wasn't. Where her sister had grown quickly into a shining, radiant being, Hotaru had remained gangly and quiet. The younger twin didn't mind so much, not quite aware at her painfully young age how different they were. Strawberry back was highlighted under the brilliance of Tallsun, dichromatic eyes flickering unsurely over the new landscape. It made Hotaru extremely uncomfortable to be so far from the shadows of the Deep Forest, so far from their mother. She was not as bold as her twin, but she was the loyal puppy that followed at her heels no matter what. If Raeden went off on any sort of adventure, Hotaru simply had to be there even if it shoved her quite jarringly out of her comfort zone. She couldn't allow her beloved twin to be hurt, she would die before she let anybody touch Raeden. That stubborn seed was planted in her heart, covered and hidden by her own awkward emotions. Ru envied Rae's beautiful, eloquent nature. Even so she would never wish for a different twin.

However exploring the Heart when it was already warming up, as it was only early morning, was pushing Hotaru a little too close to the edge of worry. They were too far from the forest, her mind screamed at her. She wanted to turn and run all the way back to Auntie Kota and Mommy, but Raeden's bouncy bodice before her made her hesitate and continue on. No, Ru couldn't leave her sister. "R-Rae...not safe..." she whimpered, ears slowly flattening the farther they moved, wondering where Stella was when she needed her. Lengthening her movements she came up to her twin's flank, pressing her pale pink muzzle into it gently. Worried dual irises stared up at her, clearly worried. Her sister would always outshine her, the moon in comparison to the weak light of a star that Hotaru gave out. But Hotaru would always rise with her, there to keep her safe and loved when she waned into nearly nothing. Hotaru would always share that life with her sister, she would always be her star.

[Twins tables ftw!]

The world; it was shiny, and big. And it was hers.

Well. Theirs, I suppose, Since Hotaru never left Raeden's side.

Raeden always made a show of rolling her eyes whenever Ru would follow her, acting as if having her twin constantly be her side was some sort of bother. Truly, Rae was only confident when Ru was with her - when she had someone to stop her before she want too far, or to laugh at in moments of fright, as if she wasn't equally as terrified. But she would never reveal that to her sister; never would she tell Ru how dear she was to her, or how much she needed her to lean on. In truth, Rae was quite self conscious and doubtful of herself, but when she had an audience, the dramatic flare took over, and she began confident and bold. She could never show her true self to anyone, much less her sister.

Her sea-green eyes shone brilliantly, as the warm light of the Heart reflected against the silver flecks in her gaze that she had inherited from her father. Her almost-white palomino coat almost looked pink as it reflected the reddish stones covering the ground. Bounding forward, she didn't bother to look back, sure that Ru was toddling behind her somewhere. One thing she was sure of, was that they had lost that damned secretary bird. She wasn't sure where, but at some point, Stella had ceased to follow them.

As her sister stammered and pushed her soft muzzle into her creamy flank, Rae came to a dramatic halt, tossing her silkymane and casting a look of exasperation Ru's way. "What isn't safe?" She questioned, eying her twin. "I don't see anything around here, do you? Just a bunch of rocks. Is the wittle baby afwaid of some rocks?" She quipped sarcastically. To prove her point, Rae kicked a small stone towards her sister, tilting to her head with an obnoxious scowl.

[When you mentioned Stella, it totally reminded me of the Lion King where Simba and Nala go off and try to loose Zazu. xD]

 Ru</style>

 soft to the touch.</style>

[[LMAO so did I!]]

Raeden’s arrogance was a side that only Hotaru knew. The beautiful girl had no trouble concealing herself behind theatrics and dazzling smiles, the perfect little girl. Yet when they were alone, Hotaru was subjected to the real side of her twin. It made her heart ache with sadness, because even if Raeden wasn’t perfect, she was still far better than the quieter of the two. It only furthered Hotaru’s low self-esteem, but her love for her twin was everlasting, and she wasn’t afraid to show it even if she normally got laughed at or shot down. Differently painted irises turned unsurely towards the skies once more, though she knew that Stella hadn’t been around for at least an hour. Raeden always got a bit out of control once their mother’s bonded left the scene, as they were always under watch. Stella had the ability to share images with Phaedra, and both knew that they could easily be caught by the bird that had been raised by a spy. It was rather obvious after all.

Raeden went jogging forward, at a pace Hotaru wouldn’t match. She slunk forward, head and ears low with how uncomfortable she was. The glowing red surrounded them, turning Rae pink and Ru even further towards their father’s color. Rae probably wasn’t even paying attention to where Hotaru was at that point, but the quiet filly went trailing after her, always keeping her within a few strides distance. Once Rae was out of view, Ru was doomed. It was hard enough to keep track of her wild twin, even when she had her eyes on her at all times. Pale silver eye, nearly blind in appearance, and the sea-blue of her mother and father combined were locked on her sibling like a tracking hound. However she had not been prepared for Raeden’s sudden halt and nearly went crashing into her. Scuttling back a few steps and watching her with the cowed, weak expression that normally covered her visage when alone with her twin. She was much meeker around her twin’s exuberant personality. Exasperated stare and dramatic sigh in her voice made Ru’s ears flop flat, blazened face pleading with Rae to understand. The rock her sister kicked at her bounced off her foreleg with a sting and Hotaru shied away, using her nearly white locks as a veil instead of a prop for dramatics like Raeden. ”We are too far from home, Rae…” she pleaded, trying to use logic with her bull-headed twin, despite knowing it would not work. Embarrassed by the teasing, she once again faltered and let Raeden take the win for that. ”I-I’m not afraid…” but the soft whimper in her voice, both pleading for Rae to stop and belying her fear at the same time, told a different story.

 Rae</style>

but everything looks perfect from far away.</style>

As the rock took a rogue bounce, striking her sister's foreleg, Rae internally twinged. She hadn't meant to hit Ru with the rock...why hadn't she moved, anyways? Snorting, Rae tilted her head as if unimpressed by her sisters injury. unable to see the look in her dichromatic gaze, as her white forelock shileded her eyes. Haughtily, Rae tossed her head, sending her mane cascading down her back in a tumble of curls, and sighing, as if there was someone else watching the beautiful filly's antics, other than her sister. "Ru" She began empathetically, "We have no home. Living in a forest, is for bums. And I'm not a bum, are you?" Turning her silver-flecked gaze to the horizon, Rae gave a too-loud dreamy sigh. "We ought to be living high up in the clouds. Or in a beautiful meadow surrounded by wild flowers, with princes and queens..." Her voice trailed off as the lighter of the twins imagined this serene life that she would one day have for herself. She vowed, even in her youthfulness, to find a handsome and strong warrior, to be queen of a herd even! She would not simply live out her life in mundane average-ness.

Looking back towards her sister, she smirked as the strawberry twin mumbled her lack of fear. "Oh yeah? Prove it. I dare you..." Looking around, Rae bit her lip as she pondered what she could make Ru do. Spying a large rocky formation just a few feet away, taller than both of them, she grinned deviously before turning back to her sister. "I dare you to get to the top! Unless you're a scawered wittle baby.." Flicking her white tail against her hocks, Rae waited to see if her sister would do it. Likely she'd be too chicken, and Rae would come out the tougher, as usual.

 Ru</style>

 soft to the touch.</style>

The snort that falls unattractively from her sister’s nostrils makes Hotaru sigh softly. She does so often, as if she is already weary of life despite being so impossibly young. Being around Raeden was a sure-fire way to bring down your moral and show you that you could never be that perfect. Even so, Ru loved her hopelessly, and always wished that someday Raeden would show her love like Auntie Kota did to Phae, or Ktulu to Ophelia. Anything, really. Hotaru was waiting, always waiting, for that day. She would likely wait for years. Dichromatic eyes softened as her twin shook back her mane, so similar in color to the one that lay still against her shoulders. Rae made that, too, look better. Hotaru was actually proud of her sister for being so beautiful, jealousy still far from her grasp at that age. Ru could sing praise of her sister for hours. Her nickname, used only by her twin and rarely on occasion their mother, was stressed and exasperated. Being reminded that they had no home made her feel sad, for she considered it home, and it was all she really had to call home. She didn’t think of them as being bums. ”I…well, no, but…” Trailing off when Raeden continued, knowing there was no use in trying to argue.

Her sisters fanciful ideas were fun to listen to, for Hotaru wasn’t as prone to daydreaming, and wasn’t very imaginative. Rae’s elaborate dreams sounded so beautiful, and Ru fiercely believed that her twin belonged there, and would do anything to push her up to that goal. Even so the awe that filled her heart at that moment was crushed when Raeden sneered at her, clearly disbelieving. The soft palomino twin glanced over at a formation that looked rather dangerous to Ru, daring her to climb it, and the strawberry younger swallowed shakily. It made her knees tremble a little to think about trying to make it to the top at all. ”D-Do I have to?” Voice was a soft squeak, but it was resigned. Slinking forward she hesitantly approached it, eyeing it unhappily as she came to its start. Nervously placing one snowy hoof upon its base and pulling herself up. By then she was trembling, tail tucked in low and ears flat against her head. She hated it, she hated doing it, but she wanted to impress Rae. Maybe if she did, Rae would stop being so mean and let her stop. Once she was halfway up though, she paused and trembled harder, feeling tears prick at her eyes. Everything beneath her felt unsteady and she was dizzy looking down even from the height of halfway to the top. ”I-I don’t wanna!” she cried weakly, uncaring if Raeden would tease her for it as she hesitantly placed one back hoof down, wanting to go back down.

 Rae</style>

but everything looks perfect from far away.</style>

Rae watched as her sister hesitantly moved towards the rock pile, which compared to their small bodies, might as well have been a mountain. She's actually doing it! Rae thought with an astonished fear. Idiot! She hadn't actually meant for Ru to try and climb the rock heap...She just...Well, she just wanted her to admit that she was too afraid. As much as Rae teased her sister, it wasn't as though she genuinely wanted to see her get hurt. It was typical knock-you-down-to-build-myself-up mentality on Rae's part, only now she feared it had gone too far.

Halfway up now, Rae's jaw hung open with astonishment at how far Ru had gotten. Maybe she really could make it all the way to the top? However as Ru's tail moved farther and farther between her legs, and her knees began to tremble more, Rae huffed. I don't wanna! Her sister cried out, flooding Rae with relief. How could they sneak back unnoticed if she had to drag her twin screaming and crying back to the Woods, with broken bones? "Shhhh!" Rae hissed at Ru's outburst of defiance. With faux anger, Rae stomped forwards, her tiny hooves making tinny sounds on the rock as she slammed them into the ground for effect. "Fine just come down! God's Ru. You always have to make such a big deal out of everything."

Standing close to the base of the rock heap, Rae protectively tried to guard Ru's descent in the most inconspicuous way possible. She didn't want Ru to stumble coming down, as there likely wasn't enough room for her to turn around and come down face-first. Secretly, she admired Ru's courage for having made it as far as she had - Rae would have never climbed that thing - it was far too high. Besides, she might get dirty in the process.

[Does Rae know about her magic, do you think?]

 Ru</style>

 soft to the touch.</style>

It was terrifying for Ru to climb that unassuming hill. Every step shook her legs and she was almost grateful when her own fear petrified her. Why she had taken the reckless course and done what Raeden had dared, she had no clue. It was not in her nature, but then again her own cautious behavior always warred with doing what Rae said. Her own morals versus subservience. It felt nice to please Rae, and to surprise her too, for even Hotaru hadn't expected herself to climb the heap of stone. Tiny stones were knocked loose beneath colorless hooves, skittering down and only furthering her anxiety as the noise resounded loudly within her ears.

Hissing met her ears, Raeden telling her to be quiet, and her ears folded in a harmless display of submission against her crown, immediately obeying. Tiny whimpers the only sound still echoing softly in her throat. The slamming of her twin's hooves was loud and clear in her ears, as well as her patronizing words. Ru just gave a soft inward sigh and cautiously stepped backwards once more. Every part of her shook with the anxiety she was feeling, veil of albino white locks blocking her view even further. It wasn't like she could turn her head and look over her shoulder, it wouldn't show her where her hooves would go. She was mostly going by touch, applying light pressure and testing it slowly a step at a time. A small sheen of tears filled her dichromatic eyes and she whimpered down to Raeden, seeking guidance as she always did. Raeden was the decision maker, the leader, the princess. Ru both hated and was thankful for it. "I-I can't!" Tone soft, because Rae had told her to be quiet. "I-I'm scared..." Movement stopping completely after getting about halfway down from where she'd been, hoping that for once Raeden would comfort her. Highly unlikely, but she was scared and wanted her twin to give her the inherent courage Hotaru believed in to get back down.

 Rae</style>

but everything looks perfect from far away.</style>

Even though Rae huffed as if she was annoyed at her sisters cries of distress, she was actually both relieved and full of love for the helpless unicorn. Rae loved being needed, and her sister's helpless mews of distress only served to stroke that part of her ego. Reaching up, she nudged Ru's right thigh with her soft nose, reassuring her that she was there. Taking a step up, only a small one, Rae positioned herself closer to her sister, just in case she should take a tumble. Flaring her nostrils slightly, Rae looked down to assess the situation. Twitching her nose, she looked back up at her sister. "You can do this, Ru-ru. No problemo. You got yourself up there, right? You can get down." Her words were reassuring, and no longer had the edge of authority and dominance that they did before. She really didn't want to see her sister fall.

"Just lift your left foot and put it straight down..." If she did that, she could almost...hop down. If they had wings like Momma, this wouldn't be happening. Twitching her lips to the side, she braced herself just incase Ru slipped. Although they were almost the exact same size, and Rae really couldn't do much to catch or to stop Ru if she did fall, it still seemed like something she was obligated to do. She was the one who made Ru go up there after all... "Common, just come down. We can go do whatever you wanna do." Rae crooned, hoping that if she let her sister decide what game they played next, that she wouldn't tell Momma that Rae had dared her to climb up this rocky thing.

 Ru</style>

 soft to the touch.</style>

Ru gave a soft jerk of surprise at the soft touch along her leg, uncertain eyes turning for guidance to her sister. It was comforting, the touch, and she visibly relaxed. It was nice to know Rae was there for her, though she was oblivious to her reasons, allowing herself to enjoy it for a few moments. Seeing Raeden come up wasn't surprising, her sister was fearless in Hotaru's eyes. When she spoke Hotaru hung on every word, eyes tracing the face she could explain to the last detail in her sleep. It wasn't often Rae called her Ru-Ru, but Hotaru secretly enjoyed it every time she was blessed with the nickname. Taking a deep breath she followed the directions that came spilling from her twin's lips next, shakily lifting her leg and moving it back like Raeden had instructed. Her twin had to be her eyes since she wasn't agile enough to twist and see behind her.

The soft crooning words made her relax and she trusted herself enough to place her weight on the hoof she'd set down. Two more steps and she would be down far enough to just hop off. She managed one more before stopping and pressing her cheek to her sister uncertainly, taking strength from her presence with a small thankful smile. Hotaru couldn't help but be hopeful that maybe Raeden wouldn't convert back to how she'd been acting earlier if she was even offering to let Ru decide what to do next. A lot more comfortable with her twin there, she quickly took the last few steps and lurched awkwardly off the pile, landing and stumbling a bit from the shale slipping under her hooves as she jumped. Turning shyly to Raeden, a tiny smile playing at her lips in an almost sheepish manner. "I'm sorry..."

 Rae</style>

but everything looks perfect from far away.</style>

As Ru's hooves touched down onto the ground, Rae gave an audible sigh of relief. At least if they got caught sneaking back to momma, Rae wouldn't get in trouble for bringing her sister back with a broken leg. Besides that, she was genuinely glad that Ru had made it down without injuring himself; the rock pile was awfully large, after-all. As her twin turned towards her, Rae reached her muzzle out, tapping Ru's horn with her own. She shook her head as her sister apologized, as if it wasn't needed. "S'okay." Rae mumbled awkwardly, swishing her opaque tail against her slender legs.

Just as she was about to ask Ru what game she wanted to play next, she heard a dull crack from somewhere behind them. Spinning around, her small body tensed nervously as her dainty ears pricked forward, trying to identify the sound. "D'cho hear that?" Rae whispered out of the corner of her mouth, never taking her eyes off of the murky darkness ahead. "D'you think it's Stella?"

She hoped it was - even though the secretary bird had no business being on the ground. And why would she be hiding anyways? Should she be squawking at the girls like she always did, when they were doing something wrong? No..whatever was up ahead sounded much bigger than their momma's black and white companion. Trying not to shake, Rae jutted her head skywards, feigning a confidence that she did not feel. Snorting, she raised one of her slender hooves and slammed it down onto the hard ground. "Who's there?" She shouted boldly. "I'm not afraid, s'you might as well come out where I can see you."

      Tingal
sometimes being unique takes it's toll

I had been watching from afar, slinking stealthily in the tall grasses. I made sure I made no sound as I made my way towards the fillies. It was Hotaru, and some other filly who looked quite similar in color to Hotaru. I cut through the grasses, my tiger lineage aiding me as I made my way towards them. I settle myself behind some grasses and watch as they talk.

In almost in instant, I dislike the other filly. She's teasing Hotaru. My tail twitches and my black ears stick to the back of my skull. I watch as the other filly, Rae as Hotaru had called her, dared Hotaru to climb a large mound of rocks. Hotaru hesitates before slowly picking her way up the stones. I frown, realizing this must be the filly Hotaru was telling me about. Her sister. I watch as Hotaru clumsily stumbles down the stone pile. It was only then when I slip and rocks clatter around me. I freeze, realizing that Rae had heard me.

Sighing, I decide to step out to where the fillies can see me. Nodding my head, I smile upon seeing Hotaru. "Hotaru, nice to see you again." I tilt my head as I gaze at Hotaru with my green orbs. I place a more serious expression on my face as I turn to the other filly, Rae. My brows are furrowed and I try to keep myself from screaming at her. "Young lady, that is no way to treat Hotaru. You should be very ashamed, teasing her like that. Tell me now, who is your mother?" I snort, aggravated. Was I too harsh? A little ashamed, I watch the filly. She was so pale, and her features reminded me of a face I had met long ago. But I couldn't place a hoof on it.

[[ Just gonna place Tingal in here! ;D]]

 Ru</style>

 soft to the touch.</style>

A soft smile appeared on Ru's face when Raeden turned so that their horns gently bumped together, a sound like gentle tinkling glass emitting from the touch. Hotaru was used to these short flashes of tenderness, lived for them. Already the younger twin had forgiven Rae for daring her to climb the pile, slate wiped clean at the small display of affection. Adoration once again softened her dual colored eyes, uncaring of Raeden's sudden awkward air. This was enough. This, her sister actually looking at her, seeing her...that was enough. Life was rough, and though her twin didn't make it easier, Ru couldn't imagine it without her.

Her bubble of comfort was broken by a snapping sound near them, and Hotaru made a soft whimpering sound. Who was there? Did they mean harm? Tiny pink ears twitched to and fro, trying to hear any other sounds. This was why she hated losing Stella- though more could be done without their mother's bonded eyeing them, it also left them vulnerable, and they were in no shape to be defending themselves. When the thought surely made it to her twin's brain, she voiced it, but Ru shook her head in denial. No, there was no way something that big could be Stella. But she wished it was anyways. Raeden's sudden bravery was shocking, calling out to the intruder. Yet, looking closer, the young dame could tell her sister was not so unshaken. It wasn't easy to see, and if she hadn't shared a womb and a close life with her twin, even Ru would have missed it. It wasn't a comfort to know her sister was just as scared, but at least she knew that they were both in the same boat.

Who emerges from the brush is perhaps even more surprising, and the shake in her knees immediately stops. Tingal is unmistakeable, and the smile on his face is just as warm as she remembers. Bright smile surges like a tsunami upon her own face, unstoppable. Tingal is perhaps her very dearest friend, no matter the difference in their age. They are both strange, both unique. Hotaru loved him dearly. Breaking away from her twin with little worry, she let lanky palomino legs carry her quickly to the hybrid stallion. Dancing happily up to him, small face painted with joy that was rare to find in the presence of her family. "Tingal!" Excitedly she spoke, hopping on her toes before him. He towered over her, but she felt no fear near him. Ru craned her neck up hopefully, different colored irises glowing happily, hoping to brush muzzles. Dying for any form of affection from her friend.

Harsh words stop her, and she turns her cranium towards her sister. So used to the way Raeden acted, Hotaru had never really thought it was 'bad' per se. In fact, Ru feels rather flattered that Tingal is protecting her, and a smile comes to her face just for him. Somebody actually cares how she feels! But she must still defend Raeden. Ru has always protected her twin, always lied to their mother to ensure her sister didn't get into too much trouble for dragging her off on adventures. "I-It's okay Tingal, she didn't mean it," she murmured softly, but her eyes were grateful and touched when they turned to him. Ru didn't see the need to tell him who their mother was, as he had asked Raeden and not her. But she sidled closer to him anyways, immensely happy that they had crossed paths once more.

 Rae</style>

but everything looks perfect from far away.</style>

An instant haughty scowl broke across Rae's delicate features as the tiger addressed her. Tiny tulip-ears pinned back against her skull, as she stomped her tiny hoof into the ground. Just as she was about to tell him off, Hotaru danced from her side to greet the intruder. Rae's silver-flecked eyes widened in shock as her meek and mild sister actually appeared excited to see this new comer, even calling him by what Rae assumed was his name. Her sassy retort died on her lips, as her scowl was replaced by a wounded look, for just a moment. It was one thing for this tiger to be telling her how to treat her sister, but it was quite another, for Ru to be taking his side. For a moment, Rae felt weak and helpless, standing all alone while her sister happily stood with the other, who was seemingly try to talk down to the palomino filly. This wasn't fair! Ru should be behind her still! Keeping quiet, and letting Rae tell this stranger off. How did Ru even know someone that Rae didn't? The idea shocked her little mind, that Ru could be sneaking away from her twin, precisely the same way that Rae had been. It seemed perfectly acceptable in her mind when she was the one running off from her sister, but now that the tables were turned, Rae felt the stinging sensation as her feelings were hurt.

Disguising her wounded frown, Rae tossed her tiny muzzle into the air, sniffing haughtily at the pair. "Whose the widdly puddy-tat, Hotaru" She said icily to her twin, no longer using her affectionate nickname, as she cast a glare towards Tingal. "And our mother, is none of your beeswax" She retorted to his earlier question, sticking her pink tongue out at him for good measure.

As she stared at the two, Rae had the sudden urge to simply run away, back to Mama and auntie Kota. She couldn't, of course, or else Ru would know that she was upset. So instead, she merely stood glaring at the pair, with a sarcastic smirk upon her pink muzzle.

I watched as Hotaru raced up to me, happy to see me. Smiling, I tilt my head and watch as she dances upon her toes, clearly happy to see me. "Hello again, Hotaru." Glaring at the other filly, I make sure she stays where she is. She was one of those rude fillies, I had seen quite a few of them in my many years.

A teasing tone comes along with the words that slide from the filly's mouth. Eyes wide, I storm up to the filly, avoiding crashing into Hotaru. Pressing my face closer to hers, I loomed over her small figure. "Who're you calling a wittle puddy-tat?" I snarl, flashing my fangs. My words were threatening, a growl residing deep within my throat. I didn't care if she was a child, I would punish her. I would make sure she had learned her lesson. Getting a good whiff of her scent, I analyze the scent. "Foothills, eh?" I had heard the Grey had taken over the Foothills just recently. So... that narrows the list of possible dams down. The only mare I knew in the Grey was Phaedra. Shrugging mentally, I speak her name. "Is Pahedra your mother?" I know, it was a wild guess. But she was the only mare I knew from the Grey. Just stinkin' a leg out... at least... I think that's how that saying goes. Pushing this one thought to the back of my mind, I focus on what matters now.

Turning to Hotaru, I frown. "I'm sorry, Hotaru." Why was I apologizing? Turning back to the small filly, I snort, tossing my head. "Call me puddy-tat again and I.. well... I don't need to explain." I stride back to Hotaru, sighing. I hated being strict, but... I hated to be teased, and hated for my friends to be teased as well. My stomach twisted into a knot, was I too mean? Worry began to wrap itself around me. Fearing the worst, I drop my tail and my head, glancing at Hotaru before returning my gaze to my hooves. I felt so ashamed now.

Was Hotaru going to dislike me now?

Hurt look was missed by the young strawberry filly, eyes taking in the form of the one who had embraced her uniqueness, called her beautiful when she could hardly stand her own reflection. Meeting such a wonderful person, bold ideas were starting to form in her young mind. They were tentative little seeds, but when she was in adolescence she would surely sprout into an unstoppable mare who would not cower behind her beautiful twin. What if she went exploring more often? Would she find others like Tingal? They were dangerous ideas, or at least seemed so to the filly, as Raeden seemed convinced that she would never brave a path of her own. Those would be trials for later months, and even later years. For now, Tingal's warm smile was enough to make her glow, splotchy blazed face that resembled her fathers turning skyward towards his massive frame.

However her small episode of joy was brutally shattered by an angry hissing from behind her, and tiny tulip ears of pale pink drooped pitifully. Being called Hotaru was rare from her sister. Usually it was 'Ru'. From Phaedra? It was normal for her full name to be used, and Auntie Kota usually called her Taru or any nickname laced with affection, much as she did with creative ones for Raeden. It was nearly as bad as being called by her other name, a type of middle name reserved for only when she was in trouble (which was never, unless she willingly took the blame for her twin, which was often), Kokoa. Raeden knew she hated it, hated the meaning of it. 'Love of the heart'. Hotaru didn't feel very lovable, and didn't like the sound of the name at all, as it was used to tell her she had done something wrong. "I-I..." All bravery vanished under her sister's anger, submission almost an instant reaction to any form of dominance. Tingal, on the other hand, did not handle her so lightly.

Hotaru watched in wide-eyed shock as he advanced on her twin. She was half awed, half horrified. Deep inside she knew the kind stallion would never actually hurt her, but Hotaru had never seen Raeden be put in her place, or reprimanded at all! A more ingrained part of her instinctively told her to protect Raeden, for that was her job, her sole purpose. So, tiny legs moved her forward, conflict showing clearly on her soft face. "Sh-she didn't mean to, Tingal. It's my fault. I should have told her about you." Already she automatically shouldered the blame, sending a desperate plea for forgiveness that she didn't actually need from her sister. It was easier to just let Rae be right, and Ru had stopped thinking that maybe she wasn't. Tingal turned and met her halfway, and dichromatic eyes blinked at him in surprise when he guessed their mother's name immediately. "D-Do you know Mommy?" That was great! If so, would Phaedra approve of them being friends? His apology, perhaps, surprised her even more, both eyes going wide behind a small curtain of pale locks. Why was he apologizing to her? "I'm not mad, Tingal," she assured with a soft smile, one that wavered sadly when his posture dropped so visibly. Moving forward she brushed her tiny half-white muzzle against the bottom part of his shoulder, the highest she could reach when fully stretched. It was a wordless movement that told him that she didn't mind, that she still loved him dearly and didn't want to see him so dejected. Once she was sure the message had gotten across, she turned to Raeden. "This is Tingal, he's my friend. He can make trees move!" Maybe the prospect of magic would entice Rae to turn a blind eye to his reprimands? Ru desperately wanted her to like him, as he was so precious to her budding ideas. He was helping to encourage her, develop her into a person she would someday in the future actually like being.
