World's Edge Philosipher
It's a New World, A New Start..

The walk back from the Threshold had been harder than the walk there. The golden and cream dove found her body aching from carrying such a weight for so long that she had so stop many times before finally reaching the safety of the herdland. The sun, the cruel tormentor of pregnant mares had finally set leaving the fem to bask in the coolness of the moonlight. It was rather ironic is a way, as the World's Edge belonged to the Goddess of the Moon after all. Her mind wandered to her children, both born and unborn as she slowly made her way to the clearing of trees she had begun to call home. Just like she had in times before, Solstice had picked out one place to stay and made it her own. Aaron and Azale should know how to find her here if they wanted to... both so grow up and not needing her anymore. not in the protective sense at least.

It was as her thoughts lingered on her unborn child... or possibly children as she was coming to wonder, that tiny hooves kicked hard into her ribs. She winced, only to cry out in pain as every part of her body tensed. IT WAS TIME! Twice before the mother had felt these powerful pains both times had brought new life into her own. Her motherly instincts took over as her legs buckled down, and she hit the dirt with a thud. At once she was on her side, clearly in labour to any that would find her. This however was the first time it had begun alone. Ata had been nearby when she gave birth to Aaron, and Aaron in turn had been there when Azale was born. The golden fem called out in a high pitch whinny, not really wanting to be alone at night to give birth. At least the one comfort was that she was within the safety of the herd. No outsiders could get to her now.

It was then that the true labour began and she could do nothing to wait. She breathed heavily, panting and wincing in the all to familiar pain of child birth. A half hour passed before she felt semi relief as the frame of a child slid from her womb to the outside world. Slowly the painted mother lifted her head not daring to stand just yet. Behind her lay a perfect cremello tobanio painted child. Gently Solstice struggled to clean the child before the pangs of labour forced her to stop. Her wondering had been correct after all.

This time was not as easy as the first. After all this child had been hiding for so long, that it seemed he or she was not ready to come out to meet the world yet. With pain filled grunts and winces Solstice steadily pushed the second child into the world. The moment the second child was born, Solstice moved to try and stand to clean both children. Twins... She and Torasin were the parents of twins! Hazel eyes took in every detail of their bodies in the moonlight. The first, and by far the largest of the pair was a cremello tobanio with light green eyes and a perfect white heart in the middle of her forehead. It reminded Solstice much of the star she held on her own. The second and much smaller was a chestnut tobanio, but on her left shoulder there was a perfect chestnut heart cut out by the white. It was this child's eyes that concerned Solstice. Her eyes were a more hazy green, but not a haze she had seen before.... Immediately her face changed to that of worry. Was this smaller child blind?

"Speech."

It seemed that the season for birthing was upon them. The winds hummed with the excitement of new life, dragonsong was thick in the air as hoardes of wild dragon eggs hatched, with mothers viciously protecting them against all that might threaten the existence of their hatchlings. TallSun provided the perfect settings for such births, the newborn lizards thrived in the natural warmth provided by the extended sunlight hours, growing strong enough by the time the seasons turned to colder, harsher conditions, they could survive. Akaith did not keep a brood of her own this year, she had not risen to mate, to be chased by Helovia's fittest and bravest male dragons.

But many others within the homeland of hers had chosen to breed this year, to present the lands with the products of their love, to bring forth fresh life in the Edge, to bring a promise of the ongoing future the herd would have. It pleased Mirage immensely, to see the youth thriving, to see them grow and become their own souls, to find their own places in this world. She hoped to be able to offer them guidance when they required it, protection when they needed it, and opportunity to reach their full potential.

Births within her lands were welcome, for she stalked the lands with her cloak draped across her slender shoulders, slipping between the trees and shadows with ease, the delicate golden dragon dancing upon the breeze alongside her, a fleck of sunlight in the dappled rays that broke through the canopy above. She arrived here today, striding happily towards the new mother dipping her crown graciously, allowing the pleasantness of this new life to swallow up the otherwise tense thoughts that tried to pull her attention down dark corridors of complicated friendships, alliances, and wars. She would not sully the birth of this filly with such circumstances.

Instead, she proffered a smile to Solstice, a low song from her throat, while Akaith gave her own from above, the gold could not help but celebrate with jubilance the arrival of new young ones. The twins held a resemblance to Solstice and Torasin, and Mirage spied the heart shaped inscriptions upon their skin with fondness. It was not with bitterness that Mirage observed the products of a loving bond between the two, for though she did indeed love Torasin, she was unable to express that to him, unable to embrace him the way Solstice could, the way she obviously had. No, she allowed herself to feel happiness, and only happiness, for the situation of her loyal herdmates, her closest friend.

"Congratulations." Her warm voice spoke, her tiara tilting to view the children at their own height, a small frown of concern wrinkling her brow for a second as she peered between the twins. It is good their father is healer. Akaith's thoughts tumbled through her tiara just as she drew the same conclusion. She wondered at just how far the extent of his magic would reach, however, for curing a disability bestowed upon a child at birth might be a task only a God could hope to accomplish. "They will be strong." She added quietly, her voice coming across strong, definitive. Despite it all, they would make sure the young survived to live on, and carry on the legacy of the World's Edge.

I still look for your face in the crowd.
Oh, if you could see me now.
Would you stand in disgrace or take a bow.
Oh, if you could see me now.

Moonlight filtered down onto the gilded Sir who dozed in its gentle, silver touch. The movement of his breathing was calm and of one who was on the verge of falling into slumber, covered in cascades of pale mane. The whimsical world of dreams called him forth as he rested one back foot, stood on the border of trees and the cliff that seemed to lead straight to the stars. He was content for sometime until alarm bells started ringing in his mind, or perhaps, Kiba's alarm bells started ringing. Lids snapped back to reveal stunned green eyes as he sought out the mind of his bonded, enquiring after what all the excitement was about.

Kiba? What's going on?

His voice laced with a sense of panic and breathlessness.

Sool-Sso- Sooolstice. Babies

Came the dragons voice in his mind, filled with wonder and urgency. Kiba sent a series of images to Torasin's mind so the Doctor could find the place where she was giving birth. Body surged into action, darting around branches that threatened to behead him if he didn't give them more room, tail flicking from side to side as he ran. A colourful trill sounded above and soon the little brown was darting through the trees, twisting and flipping until he found himself gliding alongside his rushing bonded. Watching intently as the trees parted to a scene that the gentle Moon Doctor would remember for the rest of his days.

Puffing from the exhaustion was the motherly appearance of Solstice, whom Torasin immediately joined upon reaching the scene. Extending a muzzle to hers in a gentle affection as he looked upon his children for the first time, marvelling that he had been blessed with twins once again. The first was a stocky looking cremello patterned babe, her markings barely visible against her white coat but he noticed the heart shaped star on her forehead that was much like her mother's. However, the Doctors attention was more concerned with his other daughter, who was much smaller and looked weaker. Her eyes had the tell tale haze of one who could not see, a child born blind. Shock ran across his features before turning into heart breaking sympathy, she looked like Nym in her chestnut tobiano coat, a cute heart forming on her shoulder. Teeth clenched in bitter regret, the gift bestowed upon him by the moon could not stretch to this. The eyes could not be fixed in a series of medical procedures even when aided by magic. It would take a God's infinite power to fix the unfixable. "You bless us Solstice with such beautiful, strong children. What shall we name them?" He asked of her fondly, touching each of his daughters with the affectionate nudge of a father. Silently he felt for the mental link with his bonded.

Watch over her carefully Kiba, be her eyes and keep them both from trouble.

Kiba gave his dragon like salute and flew over to greet the children, bustling around them in excitement. Torasin then lifted his head and headed over to greet Mirage with a fond extending of his nose, happy she was here to calm his nerves and keep him on the right path. "Thank you ma'am! Though I worry over the little one's eyes." He nodded to the wobbly chestnut foal with concern laced into his features for his daughter.

Sakura

The movement was sudden, and unexpected. The filly kicked and wiggled tired of the confines of her mother's womb. A fierce kick in her mother's belly seemed to start the reaction. It was indeed time for the twins to exit into the world her parents moved in. However the headstrong filly was not expecting however to be squeeezed even tighter as her mother brought her into the world. Time passed and soon the impatient child was pushed forward into the world. Her mother took a moment to clean her off some before returning to pushing.

Light green eyes look on as she struggles to bring her twin into the world. But it did not take long before the smaller chestnut frame of her twin sister was brought into the world as well. She looks around curiously as more arrive. The first is a ebon mare with a golden thing above her. She looks on curiously, and whinnies at what she would come to learn is the golden queen Akaith. The black mare speaks to her mother in words the cremello filly did not yet understand.

Another arrived, who looked much like her mother. It was a male however and he greeted her dam first. Could he be their father? With wobbly legs the filly began to stand... Or try to at least. With a snort front legs stretched out in front of her. She sat like that for a moment or to, feeling out these long unused limbs. Then with a great heave she forced her frame to rise. She squealed in happiness that was short lived. For as she tried to take a step closer to her parents her legs gave way and she hit the grassy ground below with a small thud. She whinnied in surprise and shock of hitting the ground. It was only then she could see the looks on the adults faces. Was something wrong with her sister? Light green eyes turn to the chestnut filly next to her to see what they were all concerned about.

Takura

And enter,Takara.

The foal entered another dark world, this one with new smells and new things to feel under her small body. Her painted body shift unknowingly on a dusty and dirty ground. Her small pinkish muzzle gingerly was lifted in the air, supported by a weak neck. One particular smell filtered though her nostrils and it was one she instantly recognized as her own mother. There was another one to that she recognized as someone close to her self and that was of Sakura, the older one of the twins.

Soon enough there was more scents and smells, and noises. Although she was still unsure of what the words that were spoken meant they were kind voices that made her small ears prick slightly, twisting from side to side as to where the voice's were coming from. Her chestnut neck bent round as far as it could go to try and see something different then the blackness she could see now,and the blackness that she had always seen. Hazy green orbs searched for something else but the problem was,she didn't know what she was searching for. She couldn't see the land around her,nor the faces of worry on the grown ups around her. She didn't know others could see at all.

She didn't know of her sisters attempts to stand,of course she had heard a thudding noise but she had no idea what it was. It worried her a bit (because she didn't know what they noise was) but she found herself feeling as if trying to stand was right. Unknowing of where she was,and unknowing of danger as to where a hoof may be wrongly placed, she stretched out wobbly front legs and held herself there for a seccond, working up energy to force herself to stand. With a push of her newly found back legs she stumbled to her feet but quickly fell back down with a thud of her own. Her small head shook it's self in shock as and she whinnied in annoyance at not being able to stand and she was quick to attempt again. Front legs out, push with your back legs and, stand! She was standing although it was on extremely wobbly legs. Now standing she didn't know what to do with her self, step maybe? Gingerly she lifted a hoof but her balance at the time was bad and she fell with another thud, this time stunned into silence and decided to take a break from standing.

Ears flickered forward and to the side as she sifted into a comfortable lying position. Her small weak body had been drained from her standing attempts. A slight coldness touched her as she unknowingly lay under the dark sky, with twinkling stars and a moon hung up,waiting for the sun to slowly bring the night to a close and the day to a beginning.

It seemed like mere moments before the small clearing was filled with others. The first to arrive was Mirage and her bonded Akaith. The paint smiled fondly, allowing her mind to be taken away from the worry about the second child. "Thank you Mirage... I hope they will be..." Hazel eyes had only a moment to return to the chestnut filly before Torasin and Kiba arrived. She gently pressed her muzzle to his, enjoying the touch. However it seemed both parents knew what the haze in their littlest daughter's eyes meant.... and there was nothing either could do about it. He to spoke of their children beinging strong. How could one be strong if she could not see? For names the fem smiled slightly. "What about Sakura for our cremello daughter, it means blossom.... and Takara for our chestnut daughter, which means treasure? I" As Torasin greeted Mirage as well and spoke Solstice nodded in agreement. "As do I... But with the Vein of the Gods in ruin... There is little we can do but hope."

Hazel eyes watched as first one and then the other began to try and stand. You can do it Sakura, come on Takara. she thought to herself. Oh yes, agreed or not Solstice had named their little ones. She was used to having to do everything on her own, and not used to having the father around. Even when Ata had been there, he had not arrived until Aaron was already born and named. Both fillies flopped back down to the dirt in the end. It worried her how easily little Takara seemed drained by her efforts to stand. Worried filled eyes looked to both Torasin and Mirage.... How would the children be strong if they couldn't even stand and get their first drink of the milk they so needed?
