Snö
winter will come again, soft like the first snowfall

Frosted hooves carried the young filly into the Threshold of the land she had been born in and spent very little time. For the first few months of her life she had followed her mother around. Their trips had taken them in and out of Helovia, never settling in one place for long. She had a vague image of her father. He was a pale, speckled stallion of great strength and height. Her mother had often spoke of him, holding him in high esteem, but Snö had not yet been able to form her own opinion of him, or even see if her mother's opinion was justified.

The varnished girl stopped and sniffed at a tuft of dried grass that was wilting from the extreme heat. She had noticed it the second she'd crossed into Helovia's Threshold. It had nearly taken her breath away, it still threatened to. She had thought of turning back and going back to find her mother, but the desire to meet her father officially had overwhelmed what would have been her survival instincts and pushed her further into Helovia.

Snö lifted her head and shook her fluffy mane then trotted forward again. The filly had no idea where she was going, only the vague idea of who she was looking for. Thankfully passing through the Threshold had become common to her and she was able to avoid the areas that had been burned and destroyed by fire. She stopped again and looked around the familiar forest then began moving in the direction that would bring her closer to the World's Edge where her mother had said they were from. Maybe she'd find him on her way there. With that thought in mind the girl began to him happily to herself.

ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

He often drifted through the Threshold forest even though he found nothing to bring back - it was all about timing, and it wasn't always it worked. Most of the time he found nothing worth taking home, and at other times he simply wasn't here. Fortunately, someone else from the herd usually brought the unicorns home at those times. Ulrik had been here a couple of times, and Aurelius had had success. It felt good, to know that he could rely on them to bring fresh blood home - that it wasn't only he who had an interest in it. Still, the King refused to grow careless and made sure to do his share of the task, help pull the weight of taking home the newcomers. It was during such a journey, hot as ever with the sun beating down on the world, that he saw her again.

Psyche had disappeared on and off since they had coupled in the Grove, taking their daughter with her as she ran in and out of Helovia like a mad beast. He'd seen them briefly nearly a month ago, and then they'd vanished like smoke again. It had saddened him; she'd claimed to be different from other mares. She'd taken his firstborn daughter and for all he knew, each time they left Helovia might be the last time he ever saw them. It had played with his heart like a cat plays with mice until he'd forced himself to grow cold and distant. It hurt less that way, no sharp stabs of pain, no fierce, aching sting - just a dull throb that he recalled only when he was lonely.

But every layer of ice around his heart cracked and fell away when he saw her again; she, Snö, his daughter, happily traipsing through the Threshold, heading slightly northwest.

To the Edge. To home.

"Snö!" he cried out happily, finally finding his body again; he broke into a canter, the ground trembling beneath his powerful charge, but even though the sunlight glinted off the sharp tip of his horn there was no malice in the way he moved, no threat. He just wanted to cross the ground between them as quickly as possible, eating it up in long, fast strides. Bare branches slapped against him when he thundered past, and only the desire to avoid a frontal collision with his only child made him slow down. He took the last twenty yards at a breathless, high-kneed trot before slowing, stopping; his large head snaked out as he tried to greet her, muzzle to muzzle, horn to horn.

And his eyes were the blue of a cold winter sky, but full of joy, the way the snowy world feels when the sun's light is warm upon them in midwinter.

So focused on finding her way back to the, Snö had been oblivious to the arrival of her father. Her heart lurched in her tiny chest at the sound of her name being called by a booming voice, followed by the thundering of hooves against the ground. The varnished girl tuned quickly and was met by the sight of her father, in all his glory, racing across the ground to meet with her. She didn't understand why her mother had insisted on being so distant with him.

"Daddy!" She called with child-like glee. Her body trembled with effort to contain herself and not run at her father. He was already moving so quickly toward her. Unable to hold herself back any longer, Snö bounded toward Mauja, giggling happily. She came to a stop, bracing her legs as she let her father take the last few steps toward her. When, at last, he reached her she pushed her muzzle against his and giggled again. Her mother was crazy if she didn't like greetings like this.

"Dad." She cooed before rubbing her muzzle over his face. She just didn't understand it. She had spent her first few months thinking there was something really wrong with her dad since her mother never stayed by him. Now she wasn't so sure. Yes, it was her first time really meeting him, but with a greeting like he gave her there couldn't be anything wrong with him. "I missed you."

Mauja the FrostHeart
ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

It wasn't strange that he recognized her, the flesh of his own blood - after all, he'd witnessed her birth, memorized every detail from her Friesian conformation and movement to the patches of roaning scattered across her. He'd seen every inch of her with his loving eyes, committed every part of her to memory, from her cloven, frosty hooves to her bald face and wintry eyes. She was his, his blood, his flesh; Psyche's too, and for once the Gods had not played cruel jokes on him and given him something horrible. Blood was no guarantee the offspring was sound, but every part of Snö was perfect to him. But her visits had been so few and far between - would she remember him, would she know him? Would she remember his cold, steadfast presence, his pale body scattered with dark? Or would she only see a stranger running at her?

Fear was no reason to stop. Fear was only a reason to move forward, ever.

But she wasn't afraid, she called out, not his name but what he was to her: daddy. Father. Protector, Guardian. Had he failed, by not being there, or had Psyche failed, by taking her from him?

It didn't matter. She was here now, bouncing towards him, childlike and eager while he swept in like a whirlwind, pale mane snapping in the wind and the raven feathers slick and dark against his neck. They touched, and it sent a jolt of aching affection through him, a deep longing to keep her by him, always; it rested deep in the core of his being, overwhelming, intense. Robbed of words he simply stood there, drinking in her scent, blowing hot air onto her. She'd grown since last he saw her, but she was still leggy, her tail short... He laughed, gently, softly, as she nosed him all over the face, and returned it by nibbling on her forelock. Psyche had nearly been like a hindering presence when she had been around - this was the first time he'd truly got near his daughter.

But what if Psyche..?

Worry hit him like a sledgehammer in the head. Strange as she'd been after conceiving, he still cared deeply for the shady mare. "I missed you too, Snö my daughter," he murmured into her ears, voice warm with affection. "But where's Psyche? Is she okay?" Of course he was worried - he'd be a fool if he wasn't.

Snö
winter will come again, soft like the first snowfall

If asked Snö would say that her father had not failed her in the few months of her life. Her mother, for whatever reason, had kept her separated from him. She'd longed to spend as much time as she could with her father to learn from him as she had learned from her mother. The short amount of time she had been around him with her mother he had kept the both of them safe. What more could they have asked from him? Nothing. So why hadn't they stayed? Why had they moved as much as they had and only visited? The questions continued to plague her, but she had no answer to them and neither had her mother.

Her nose found the raven feathers nestled behind Mauja's ears and the girl blinked in surprise. Feathers were for birds and what her mother called pegasus. "What's that?" She asked, nosing them once more. "Daddy, you have feathers. Did a pegasus give them to you?" She asked innocently. She hadn't seen one before, but her mother had told her about them. Everything she'd heard had been horrible, but it left her wanting to see one for herself. And equines. She wanted to see those, too.

Snö's head tilted to the side when her father asked about her mother. That was another thing she found strange. Her parents referred to one another by their names and not by their title. Mom and dad. Mother and father. No, it was Mauja and Psyche.

"Oh.. yeah. Momma's fine." Snö nodded her head to accentuate her point. "I ran away." She paused and thought for a moment before smiling happily at her father again. "Cause I wanted to see you." Maybe that would keep her from being scolded for running away. "Can I stay with you, daddy?"

ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

It seemed that she'd found his latest addition; feathers. For many days he had felt them each time they whispered against his neck, seen them from the corner of his eye each time he swished his tail, but now - they felt like they were truly a part of him. Most of the time he even forgot that they were there. With a smile at her inquisitiveness he placed his muzzle just behind her own ears, mirroring the placement of his feathers. A pegasus, though? No. That would just have been downright shameful! "Feathers I have," he said, a touch of pride in his voice again - pride of a different kind, not the fatherly that his whole being was positively radiating. After all, a murder of ravens he guessed belonged to the Moon herself had gifted him with them! "But not from a pegasus. They come from ravens, ravens sent by the Moon herself." He'd caught his own reflection often enough at night these days to know that it added something silver to his eyes, and he knew all too well the weakness it resembled: cataracts. Was it a bad joke, or something more? He certainly wasn't blind at night, that much was certain.

He wondered if maybe he should tell her not to accept gifts from pegasuses, but then again, his racism was a stealthy one; if she traipsed around Helovia the way foals tended to do and blabbered her mouth off about Daddy FrostHeart saying not to trust other species..? Living in the Edge might do her good, make her receptive to the elitism that marked their own kind, but doing it more subtly. When she was older she would understand, and know the value of silence. So for now, he merely smiled, and exhaled a breath of relief when she said Psyche was fine. The mare had not proven to be all she'd claimed, but he still cared for her. Still... He had to appoint a new Crux to the Plague.

Later, he scolded himself. Your daughter has just come home!

Another wave of fatherly feelings overwhelmed him and he pressed the flat of his nose against her thin neck. Ah, running away... How could he berate her for that? Stupidly enough he liked the fact that it was all to come see him, and he guessed it was true, that being a parent made you irrational. Being proud about his kid running off from Psyche wasn't what he had envisioned himself being proud about, but here he was! He laughed, softly; mischief ran in both his and Psyche's veins, so why on earth shouldn't little Snö have gotten it too? "Ah, my darling, running away from your mother?" He gave her a look of mock severity, but his voice was warm, fond. "You're my kid, alright, no question about it. Hers, too." He pulled his head back to get a better look at her pale white face again. Psyche shared some of his Friesian bloodlines, so it wasn't strange that she had a head like both of them. Mauja smiled. "Of course you can stay! I can hardly send you running back alone to a mare that is always running around, now, can I?" He grinned. "Come, Snö my dear, let us go home." Normally, Mauja delivered such comment with a dramatic flourish and a deep voice, but now it was entirely ruined by a broad grin. Motioning for her to follow he began to pace away, leaning over to nip at her stubby mane.

"Sooo... what has she been teaching you, all these months?"

( I figured they could keep going and have a talk? :3 Would also give Aury a chance to pop in hehe :D )

Aurelius was not going to deny it. Since his recent success in the Threshold, which resulted in bringing home Lena and Huyana, he had become somewhat eager to further prove his worth. He was not a warrior, it was obvious with his physical limitations, but if he could recruit, maybe he could gain some acclaim doing that. So once again, his short legs had carried him here, seeking to stay in the shadow of the surrounding trees, making a fair amount of noise; he wasn’t trying to sneak up on any after all, so why bother? A few twigs caught in his coarse-haired mane and he sighed, realizing he would look as scruffy as ever if he encountered anyone. Aury wasn’t vain as such; he just did need added curiosities to his looks, not when trying to meet new people. The stag was short, with seemingly stunted legs, and a certain roundness to his body – not fat, but fluffy rather, and very hairy. His mismatched eyes darted around, one green and one black, searching for the hint of any that he might bring home for the Edge, but so far he had no luck.

In that same instance, the imp caught a familiar scent upon the breeze and a smile crept upon his maw. He wasn’t exactly surprised that his pale king would be here too, Mauja took his duties to the herd very seriously; it was hard not to take a liking to the tall bloke, Aury must admit. Decided to stop his aimless meanderings, he instead headed in the direction of the source of the smell, closing in slowly. That was when he caught another scent, a female one that was unfamiliar to him. Taking another whiff, he slowed down further, trying to define what seemed so odd about it; for it was not completely strange, this smell. His curiosity was starting to awaken, so he set forward in a trot, finally bringing the duo into view. He couldn’t say exactly what he had expected, but the scene before him did surprise him a little – not that he would let it show, his expression merely showing kind interest as he approached. A scruffy whicker escaped him as a greeting, striding up before them and dipping his head briefly in respect of his king. "Mauja," he spoke in greeting, then taking time to have a closer look at the maiden by the pale stag’s side.

The dwarven steed’s eyes glistened as he took in the young fae, a roan she was and sharing some physical traits with Mauja – no doubt he had stumbled upon a little father to daughter reunion. He had not imagined the pale king to be a father, but then again he couldn’t see why not. A handsome man of his position would naturally have a few brides swooning at his presence, no doubt about that. Aurelius felt a small pang of envy in his heart; it was doubtful if he would ever sire children himself, with his stature and lack of glamorous good-looks. You’d be surprised at how long-legged the residents of Helovia tended to be, which was not optimal if he’d had any say in it. Tearing himself away from those thoughts, he offered a kind smile to the filla, nodding respectfully at her as well. "And who might this pretty young lady be?" he asked in a humming voice, the cheer returned to his eyes as it had been extinguished for a moment.

Snö
winter will come again, soft like the first snowfall

Snö was a little disappointed when Mauja said that the feathers had not come from a pegasus, but ravens. Ravens were not that special, she didn't think. She'd seen far too many of them in the Threshold let alone all of the other places she'd traveled with her mother. She looked skeptically at her father when he tried to explain that the moon had sent the crows. "Oh..." She held herself back from asking why the moon had sent crows and not something else. Maybe it was her trademark or something.

They quickly shifted the conversation to running away from her mother and Snö grinned then giggled a little. "Momma's boring." she complained to Mauja. "All she does is run around. I don't even get to talk to anyone." Being a social little filly it was hard for her to have no one to talk to or play with. "And she doesn't like to play!" She huffed and frowned at Mauja, giving him a look that clearly meant that she expected him to play with her and not just treat her as a tag along.

Mauja's agreeing to letting her stay and the gentle nip to her mane had Snö giggling happily again. "We're gonna have so much fun, daddy!" She bounced a few steps ahead of him then waited. When he asked what her mother had been teaching her Snö made a face. She tried to think of something, but gave up quickly. "I dunno." She admitted. "I don't pay much attention to momma, she's boring remember?"

Mauja quickly lost Snö's attention at the arrival of Aurelius. "Hi! I'm Snö." She walked toward the tiny stallion, clearly fascinated by him. "You're really tiny." Was he a foal or a stallion? "Am I gonna be small like him, daddy?"

Mauja the FrostHeart
ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

Perhaps it bothered him just a little that Snö didn't seem all that excited about the Moon's ravens, but he pushed it aside. She was young yet. What was a raven, compared to other things, shiny or colorful? A raven was just plain and noisy, a scavenger - but when they came in a murder large enough to block out the sky and cast the entire world into darkness, they weren't so plain anymore. Had a single squawking raven hopped down from its perch to gift him with feathers he doubted he would've been impressed, but that display of power... An unbidden shiver traveled down his spine. Now as then, he reflected upon the power of their numbers: they had certainly been many enough to tear both him and Daltoff apart had they wished to. He was glad they hadn't.

"Momma's boring." Oh now, really? Mauja arched a cold 'brow, peering at her. Well, that wasn't all too good. Snö, just maybe, had to learn to temper her words (and her mind?), but she was young yet. Headstrong. "Really?" he drawled out at her, tone dry. So much fun... yeah. Mauja didn't mind being silly every once in a while, but he could hardly forsake his duty to his herd to bounce around with her every day. He ground his teeth together, glad that she'd bounded ahead for the moment; he didn't want to have to neglect her, but the realization that he had to, at least a little, had settled on him. "Damn you Psyche," he muttered under his breath. Snö was beautiful, so full of life and joy, having abandoned her boring mother for the father she fancied to be fun - it made his heart ache. He wanted, desperately, to be that father for her.. but could he? "Right, boring," he agreed absentmindedly. Life was cruel, it bit you with an edge like the winter wind, sometimes lulling, but never stopping, and when it came, it was relentless. Merciless. He sighed; no point in telling her. Better to let her realize it herself, or perhaps find a playmate so she wouldn't miss him when he did the things he had to.

It nearly had him growling like a frostwolf when Aurelius popped up, whickering and greeting him by name. Mauja gave him a sly smile. "Finally dropped the lordshipping, your grace? To be completely honest, I'm glad, because it was grating on my nerves." Of course, what he said was lost in Snö's exuberant greeting, and he gave a huff of laughter. She was a ball of energy, but then again, she'd just found her long lost daddy. He couldn't blame her. Didn't want to blame her. Being a ball of energy wasn't wrong in itself; he gave Aurelius a wry grin, deciding to ignore his smooth tongue for now. From what Mauja could tell, he addressed all ladies in that way, but Moon forbid he try something before Snö was older.

As his daughter commented on Aurelius' size, he let out another laugh, deep and joyous - a heart laugh, he liked to think of it. It was beyond doubt that having found his daughter again had put him in a good mood, and he winked at Aurelius, perhaps to share a stallion joke. Tiny, oh yes. He doubted Snö herself would understand, maybe she wouldn't even notice his quick grin - after all, she was busy staring at his pseudo-goat. "No, Snö my dear, you will not be," he told her, mirth dancing along the cold edges of his gaze. "This is Aurelius, a valiant protector of the Edge realm. He was just born short, but if his horns are to be believed, he's more man than all of us put together." Again he winked at the short stallion, and leaned in to put his muzzle close to Snö's ear. "But I've always thought he looks a bit like a mountain goat," he confided in a stage whisper. There was no malice in his eyes or in his voice - in fact, they twinkled with that strange warmth, even as he focused them on Aurelius and gave him an apologetic grin.

There were times when being teased for your size was hurtful. And then there were times, usually when the teasing words were spoken by friends like now, that it could be quite amusing. This time was one of the latter. At Mauja’s initial comment, Aury shrugged his shoulders and smiled slyly. "I figured, once you’ve bathed with someone, you've crossed the line of intimacy beyond which it is acceptable to call them by their given name," Aurelius said, chuckling quietly. Their little jest was interrupted by the third party. The filly greeted him in an exuberant fashion, as is custom for the young, and Aurelius clearly saw the resemblance between father and daughter. The dwarf grinned back at Mauja, reassuring expression in his eyes. There was no way that he was trying anything, little girls just loved compliments; matter of fact, all girls loved compliments. The imp saw himself more like an uncle, if anything, so his smooth talking was completely innocent.

He guffawed heartily at the comment of his size; it was no surprise that Snö did not know what he was. As far as he had discovered, there weren’t many of his kind in Helovia. Besides, she was so young, and as it is with children, her ignorance was pretty endearing. Not to mention that it made for a good laugh among the adults. Aurelius winked back at Mauja, immediately picking up on the unspoken jest. Certainly not suitable for young ears, but amusing nonetheless. "Don’t worry, love. Besides, as you’ll learn when you grow older, size doesn’t matter," he hummed, falling silent as Mauja took to introducing him. A grin formed across his maw. "Valiant protector huh? That’s not a title I’ve been associated with before. Flattering," he said, easily picking up at what Mauja whispered to Snö. The dwarven stag snorted and reared, tossing his head, just as he had seen the goats in his homeland do, mischief written on his face.

"So, how come that I have not met such a lovely young lady earlier? I believe I haven’t seen you around The Edge?" He inquired, looking from Snö to Mauja, his curiosity sparked.

Snö was definitely relieved when her father assured her that she would not stay as tiny as the little goat unicorn was. As cute as he was she didn't want to stay that tiny. She wanted to grow up to be as big and strong as both of her parents were. One of her ears tilted toward Mauja as he whispered that the little stallion looked more like a mountain goat than a unicorn. The little filly frowned then shook her head. "What's a mountain goat?" She couldn't remember ever having seen one before, and if she had her mother hadn't told her what it was.

Shortly after the mini unicorn was speaking again and Snö blinked in response. She didn't understand what he'd meant by 'size doesn't matter' so she looked to her father in confusion. "Size of what?" The size of the little unicorn? The size of his horns. Her head turned back toward Aurelius and she studdied him curiously. He said that she would learn it as she grew older, but she wanted to know what he meant right away. She had a sneaking suspicion, however, that it was one of those things that adults would avoid until they just couldn't anymore.

Snö quickly began to grow bored of standing around just listening to her dad and the mini unicorn talking and making jokes that she didn't completely understand. She had begun to wander away when he began talking to her again, effectively stopping her. Why hadn't he seen her around the Edge? That was an easy question to answer. "Momma doesn't stay in the Edge." She said simply.

Mauja the FrostHeart
ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

The joke fell flat on its face when it turned out Snö had never seen a mountain goat (or if she had, no one had told her what it was). Aurelius goat-imitation, however, had been stellar, and Mauja chuckled quietly. "It's a long-furred animal that lives in the mountains, it has cloven hooves and horns like his," he told his daughter, trying to compromise the entirety of "mountain goat" into a single sentence of the most usable facts. At least, the most usable facts to an adult. Younglings tended to have such a skewered view of the world, focusing on different things, and it was hard to predict, hard to adapt, but he figured she'd be more interested in their appearance than their mating habits. .. besides, he didn't know their mating habits.

Most of the father's suspicion of his daughter being, uh, courted, had dissipated, leaving him grateful for Aurelius company. The short unicorn was wise in many ways, and had lived a life radically different from Mauja's; it would do Snö good to spend time in his company, learn of different things, acceptance within the race. He'd have to keep an eye on her interracial contacts, but better that she knew her enemy than not. He smiled, patiently. Of course such a common saying would be strange to the ears of a child. "Size of his body. He's talking about - love, acceptance. As far as I know, he's the only one of his kind in Helovia, but he's no less unicorn for being short." He tilted his head to the side, unsure of what else to say - what else he could say to explain it. The concept was just something she'd have to learn about as she grew.

But it was clear that she was restless, and the monarch motioned with his head for Aurelius to walk with them. Long legs started carrying him home again, and where each hoof fell down, a little frost lingered, quickly melting in the summer warmth. It pleased him to see that Snö's hooves carried the same coating of blue-tinged frost - she might not resemble either of them in color, but in that at least she'd taken after him. That, and her horn. "Psyche," he interjected quietly for Aurelius' benefit - the first night he'd told the stallion a little of the herd, and he was fairly certain he'd mentioned her then, but not her.. wayward ways. She hadn't been quite the stray back then, as she was now. Mauja sighed, flicked his tail. "She comes and goes, but goes more than comes these days." He gave a slight shrug. There was nothing he could do about it. Lena and Huyana would probably take to the child - it'd be good for her to have grown mares around, in stead of her mother. Hopefully Snö would take to them too, and be content to stay with them whenever he went out and about on his own business.

If he had known her thoughts, Aurelius wouldn’t exactly have been offended. He wished for Snö that she would grow up and be long-legged and strong like her parents, for the kind of grief he had gotten for being short wasn’t something he would want for anyone. Aury had learned to embrace the obstacles that life put in his way, and unlike many he did not have a complex about being short. His skin had grown thick, and if he was teased today, he’d only take it with a gentle smile. His height had been part of what defined his personality, who he was and his outlook on life; the only time he really wished he was taller was when around ladies. But that is a whole different story.

He could not help by chuckle when the filly spoke again, seeing the grimace on Mau’s face was priceless. He was certain she would see a true mountain goat with her own eyes. Eyes returned her curious gaze with a good-natured one of his own, smiling and letting Mauja answer the question about size with words well chosen. He did not say anything for he agreed with everything that had been said, so he merely nodded in silent applause. Snö struck him as an eager, curious young lady, and he was certain she could bring some much needed life and good spirit into The Edge. It would be amusing to have her around. Hopefully, one day it would be his own offspring prancing around, but he pushed the thought aside.

He was mildly confused at what the filly said next, and as he looked at Mauja for an explanation, Aury frowned slightly. So there was a conflict in the pale king’s love life? He wouldn’t have guessed it, but then again, those sorts of things are hard to control. The dwarven steed followed up next to Mauja without problems, limited strides falling at a slightly rapider pace than Mauja’s long ones. So, Psyche is the child’s mother? He nodded understandingly to Mauja, not wanting to dig into something that he should probably stay out of. "Hopefully she will join us soon, so the whole family can be together," he said calmly, closing the subject. "I think you will be happy with living in The Edge, Snö. I’m sure everyone will be excited to see you, he spoke to the filly, smiling.

"Oh." Snö said when her father tried to explain what a mountain goat was. It certainly sounded interesting. She looked at Aurelius again and studied him, her head tilting to the side. "Are you related to a mountain goat?" Why else would he look so much like one, according to her father anyways. There had to be a reason. Maybe his mom was a mountain goat. Or his dad. That would make more sense than him just happening to look like one. But could that really happen? Her head then turned and she looked up at Mauja. "Can mountain goats and horses have babies?" She felt a desperate need to know just to sate her curiosity, but she had a sneaking suspicion that he wouldn't know for sure.

Snö made up her own mind that he wouldn't know and continued in the direction she had been going before her father had found her. "C'mon!" she called to the two stallions. "I'm ready to go home." She wanted to see the home her mother had kept her from living in for the first few months of her life. She was ready to make it her permanent home and not move around from place to place anymore.

Excitement sparked within the young filly and she kicked her heels up and took off at a run for the Edge's territory.

He gave a wry grin when Snö turned to Aurelius to ask him about his heritage - when they'd first met, Mauja thought he'd looked something along the lines of "a mountain goat's lost uncle". Whether he had actual mountain goat blood or not the King didn't know, and happily left it for Aurelius to answer. After all, who would know but the stallion himself? Content to let it be, he was quite startled when Snö's inquisitive mind turned itself to him again, and he paused to frown. He'd seen a few queer creatures in his day, weird hybrids included, but goats and horses..? Probably possible. "I guess," he said lamely, but it seemed Snö had already moved past the subject, before bounding off with a shout. For a moment Mauja remained where he was, giving Aurelius a glance that said what on earth have I gotten myself into. Was this what he had bargained for when he bred with Psyche? The dismay of having to race his daughter to go home, in this damnable weather, faded quickly, replaced by a chuckle and a smile. She was, after all, a child kept from her real home for too long. Shaking his head to himself, Mauja broke into a jog, not wanting to abandon his short-legged companion yet not wanting to lose sight of his precious daughter. It wasn't until the Edge was in sight that he gave Aury an apologetic glance and set off at a ground-shaking canter, eating up the distance with his pale legs.

( end it with Aury's next post? I'll be starting the new one in the Edge. ^^ )

"Why, I most certainly am. But that’s a story for a whole other time," Aurelius spoke cheerfully, winking at the young fae. He watched her as she questioned Mauja for confirmation on the matter, and chuckled as she didn’t stop to wait for an answer. Instead she turned toward their home and encouraged them to move on. It was only natural that she would be excited, so when she set off in a gallop, Aurelius paced after at a relaxed trot. He wondered what Rán was doing; it had been a while since he had seen her. At the thought of the blue dove, his heart swelled and a placid smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.

The glance that Mauja sent him caused him to speak reassuringly. "Don’t worry Mauja, you’ll be a great dad," he spoke warmly. Accelerating to a canter, he followed along with Mauja until the Edge came into view, then nodding at the pale king as he raced forward, Aury himself slowing to a trot and since a halt. Hunger was gnawing in his stomach, so he decided to leave it up to the others to welcome young Snö, as he himself went out for a little something to eat.
