She stopped at the border of World's edge, a smirk on her lips. She was glad to have been asked back to this herd. No, she had not been accepted yet, but she was quite sure that once she met the leader of the herd she would be accepted. Well she hoped.

Flipping her long and silky mane over her shoulder, her purple eyes studied the place that would hopefully become her new home. She liked what she saw, it was a place where she wouldn't freeze to death and she would be able to frolic in the forest. Today, upon arrival she kept her cockiness to minimum. A colossal achievement for someone so... bewilderingly beautiful. So, she realised once again, no one would be doubting her devastating beauty, she was ready to being venturing forward. She began searching for Kaj, the only being she knew from worlds edge. Smiling her hooves crossed the invisible border and she frowned in the silence that reached her ears. Everyone was clearly doing their own things, unaware of the stunning being that had just entered their midsts. Crunching through some grass she gave a delicate shiver as a cold wind blew right through her. Her hair tossed in the wind, flipping over to reveal the scars on her neck and shoulder, she gave the sky a menacing glare. Rolling her bright purple eyes back to the earth she gently cleared her throat and stood beside a tree, if Kaj was flying he would have trouble spotting her. Her sleek black coat blended into the shadows a little too well, so she paused and waited for someone to come find her.

Why should she do all the work.
'I hate waiting! Why doesn't anybody know I'm here?' She shook her head in annoyance at other's lack of noticing her. Her lips pouted slightly and she glanced towards the sky with her gorgeous eyes. "Kaj, are you around?" She asked of nothing in particular as her eyes couldn't spot his familiar hide. She moved forward again, her small body glistened beautifully in patches of sunlight that filtered down through the trees. A single sigh crossed her lips and she searched for her new object of affection. It wasn't every day Scarter felt...a liking for anyone else. When she did however she hated being away from them. She liked playing. She tried again. "Kaj?" The name was now as familiar to her tongue as his appearance was to him dim witted memory. The funny thing was he had actually been kind to her.

Whatever that meant.

From the mists comes a voice, a sweet melody that is thick and warm like honey on a summer day. It comes not from the woods around him, for Kaj is not earthbound on that day. Title came spilling into the air, and aureate listeners flickered to the area where the sound had come from. Scarter indeed was well-concealed within the shadows, but Kaj never forgot a face despite his wandering mind and her voice sparked an instant connection in his mind's eye. Circling slowly over the area where he had heard the sweet summons, the might stallion angled into a tight spiral and dropped with a sound, sturdy thud upon the earth. With the new angle, her feminine form was easy to spot, mane coiling attractively over the sinewy muscles in her neck. Silver, barely-noticeable scars glinted in his vision as he approached, pleasant smile on his lips. As he moved closer they became clearer, but he said nothing and refused to stare at them. Everybody had their secrets, and he wasn't going to make Scarter give up hers. Wings settled slowly and quietly against his side with nought but a shuffle and a whisper of wind, plume flicking pleasantly as he neared her.

Muzzle extended in a greeting he was familiar with, wishing to exchange scents and brush their skin together as a hello. Once he had, a few steps were taken back away from her to give her some space. "It's wonderful to see you again, Scarter. Welcome to my home." Smiling he motioned with one massive wing to the woods and mists that surrounded them, an eerie and beautiful combination. Baby blue irises swept over her body, not in appreciation for her magnificent form but more to check that she had not been harmed in her journey. "The journey was not too hard on you, was it miss Scarter?" Had she been injured or harassed, Kaj would hate himself and demand revenge on the cruel soul that had done it. Would Mirage hear them talking? She had a habit of appearing out of nowhere, but he would not summon her in the middle of a conversation, it was not polite in the least.

Mirage the DragonHeart
it's been written in the scars on our hearts
The unicorn was not the only one who lurked in the shadows, seemingly bending them to her will, allowing the mists to wash over her, swallow her whole so that when she did pull herself from them, she seemed to be made of the foggy substance. Mirage stood before them as Kaj greeted this new mare with a gentle smile and friendly caress, though one glance at this new minx spoke leagues of how deeply her affections already ran for him. Was it puppy love, a devastating crush? Or true, ardent, honest and eager love?

Golden eyes peered from one adult to another, and just as silently, subtly, two fillies crept up along both her sides, touching their mother with their soft muzzles, curious as to why she observed whatever interested her from the hidden clutches of the mists. With a brush of her maw against each of their brows, the mare gave the silent signal for them to remain hidden, asking Akaith to keep watch on them so that they did not disturb the group. The fillies didn't mind - as fascinating as it was to watch adults talk, they often found their own means of entertainment far more satisfying. And with Akaith as their sitter, perhaps they would earn a dragon tale for their time.

With a kind smile the little shadow mare then pulled away from the hybrids even as Akaith dancing on the breeze and led them further into the woods. The smile disappeared from her lips, but remained in the gentle spark behind her golden eyes as she approached the pegasus and his unicorn friend. With little hesitation the dark one reached out to brush her maw against Kaj's taut shoulder in greeting, knowing him to be a loyal fellow with strong morals and a solid heart. It was admirable, the manner in which he lived his life, and she was glad to have him in her ranks.

Her eyes then alighted upon this dark femme, upon whose cheek there existed a silky, spider web marking - one that reminded her so sorely of Lace she was almost silenced permanently. But she swallowed her heartache, her longing for his companionable company, before nodded her tiara to the belle and offering a handful of words with her warm, accented tones. "Greetings Scarter, and welcome to the World's Edge. I am Mirage."

His approach was almost silent, she was not worried for her safety without him, but he did make rather charming company. He greeted her and with a gentle muzzle, she felt happier. She fluttered her eyelids at Kaj, watching as he appreciated her body. Because of course he would, everybody did, Scarter just knew it. She tossed him a flirty smile and flicked her unicorn tail. "Journey was fine, thank you Kaj." She said airily as if she hadn't nearly been knocked over by the blasts of winds that had hit her from behind. She had fixed her mane of course, all traces of the attack from the wind had been erased. She looked around his home with a soft smile. It was of course a dazzling smile. "I'm surprised." She said suddenly. "It really is pretty here." Not as pretty as her of course, normally she would have made that clear but today she was on her best behaviour. It was a good thing when Mirage appeared when she did, Scarter was in a good mood as her eyes settled over the other dark mare. What didn't please her was Mirage greeting Kaj without a gentle touch.

Generally Scarter was jealous of other mares, today was no different. She felt jealous that this other mare was standing near Kaj, greeting him as an old friend.
'Hilarious, he's not even yours!' Ridding herself of the jealously, rather unsuccessfully, she accepted the fact the Kaj had friends. Maybe even a lover. Besides, she didn't have feelings for him. She told herself. She just wanted some fun. This mare after all didn't know anything different from games and pain.

She looked over the other mare quickly with her beautiful eyes and smiled non the less. She kept her face clear of emotion and hoped the jealously hadn't flashed through her eyes. "Hello Mirage." She flipped her mane over her right shoulder to hide her scars. She only wanted her beauty to show at this point. "It's lovely to meet you, I take it you already know Kaj." She gave a slight chuckle. She then glanced at the stag, passed him a wink then turned back to the other mare, her formal manners back. "You have a very beautiful home." She looks around World Edge again and then settled her eyes on Kaj for a moment, once again. She smiled at him and then turned back to Mirage wondering what her purpose was in talking to her? She looked over the older mare curiously and slightly calculating.

Time away from Scarter had led to Kaj's forgetful mind well...forgetting. Never did important things slip, but small details like how...strange Scarter acted towards him vanished as easily as the mist of his home beneath sunlight. Even now she leaned like a supple willow branch in a light breeze, eyes fluttering with the beats of a thousand butterfly wings. Kaj didn't understand her, but no unkind words crept from her maw and so he greeted her amicably. Tail flicked easily, mane falling in waves as a serpentine smile spread delicately over her visage. Seeing no need to answer her affirmation of fine travel, he instead smiled proudly at the expanse of trees and mystical flickers that beheld her. Yes, his home was beautiful, and with the new badge sewn invisibly to his shoulder Kaj could say with even more strength in his hear that the Edge would be the only home for him for the rest of his life. "I am pleased you think that, Scarter. The World's Edge certainly has a beauty many can be drawn to." Were he candid and of a more verbal persuasion he would relinquish the fact that he would never agree with any soul, mortal or otherwise, that any other place was as grand and majestic as the Edge.

Silent appearance of Mirage no longer startled him, and with a calm gaze he turned his crown to look down upon her form. Soft brush of crushed velvet swept over one war-hardened shoulder, and the greeting in her eyes was reflected in his own soft blues. The sun and her faithful sky, how fitting. "It lifts my heart to see you well, Lady Mirage," he murmured. They were words meant only for her ears, regardless of whether Scarter heard them or not. Respect always flowed in his smooth deep tone, but there was a kinship that spoke of familial adoration when he spoke to her that did not reside in his speech when conversing with Scarter. Mirage was a fine leader, and an even grander being. There was little she could do in his eyes to make him hate her or want for freedom from her side.

Scarter spoke then, and the intensity he always held when speaking to others and giving them his attention shattered. Respectfully he returned to the present, golden ears flickering idly. Wing dropped lower on the side Mirage stood on, both out of comfort in her presence and to allow her movement should she desire it. Scarter's greeting was well enough, though Kaj believed a bit more in formality and would never have introduced himself in such a way. Not that he would press his own morals and directions upon the dame, of course. However the wink that followed made the ear facing Mirage swivel out towards her. Again with that blasted wink! What did it mean?! Once he was certain Scarter's eyes were on Mirage once more, he cast her a helplessly confused look. Did she understand? Was this yet another thing Helovians did to express friendship? He hid nothing of his silent inquiries from his gaze as it valiantly tried to procure results from Mirage's. But he found that Scarter was not understanding just who this was, and decided to rectify it the best he could. "This is Mirage the Dragon Heart, Queen and WeyrLeader of the Edge." Such a bold title to a mare with an even bolder heart, but he was not trying to impress Scarter with names that had given Mirage fame. No, Mirage could show the beautiful femme just how powerful she was on her own terms. Kaj would not sing a tune that did not fit her perfectly.

Mirage the DragonHeart
it's been written in the scars on our hearts
The mare with a spider's web weaved upon her cheek flashed her a look, a swift glance, and it was in that initial glance that Mirage knew the mare was being completely, openly honest. But what was she honestly proffering in that moment? The WeyrLeader, normally an expert at reading emotions, thought she could spy the green beast of envy flare up, but did not judge her for it - the little shadow mare held a great many things that others could find themselves jealous of, but Mirage held onto them with assured pride, for she knew she had earned them. Her friends, her relationships, her lands, her titles had all been bestowed upon her after she had proven herself worthy of them. This new mare was welcome to envy her all she liked, but Mirage thought the jealousy misplaced unless she was keen to prove herself worthy to hold all that Mirage held too.

Of course, the WeyrLeader could always be over-analysing, over-thinking the simple, swift glance that this Scarter had given her. She was curious, again, at the way the mare seemed to cling to Kaj's side, the playful glances she threw to the stallion, the gentle and kind flirtatious attitude that passed so easily between them. Scarter turned her focus back to Mirage then, just as Kaj introduced her title to the newcomer in full, not leaving a snippet out. A small half-smile curled her lips as she accepted the names with a gentle nod, confirming that she indeed, held all of those titles, and more, depending upon who one asked.

"Aye, madam, I know Kaj well, he is my WingLeader, Captain of the guard who keeps the borders of the Edge safe and secure against those who might try to take them from us." Mirage replied with her smooth tones, her exotic accent adding a pleasant curl to them. Deftly she tilted her crown towards the golden steed, her smile turning mischievous for a moment as an amused twinkle sparked behind her eyes, as she received his silent gaze of wonderment and confusion. So it would seem, he was not as well practised at the delicate art of flirting as the new mare. What was Mirage to do? Allow him to suffer through it, to fumble his way along, alone and hopeless?" Speaking of a WingLeader's duties, Kaj, shouldn't you be on your way to the Throat by now?" Kindly she released him from this torture, at least, she hoped he would take the opportunity to make a graceful exit and flee the scene.

"So, miss Scarter, was it?" Her golden pools turned to view the curious unicorn with quiet interest once more. "Are you interested in calling the World's Edge your home?"

It blesseth him that gives
and him that takes.

Scarter looked at Mirage and wondered if she was being polite enough, she was pretty enough to stay in worlds edge though. That was just a plain and simple fact. As Mirage released Kaj, Scarter pouted slightly at him. Surly he didn't want to leave her? Her company was just so charming who would want to hang around with her? However the leader was speaking to her again and she could no afford to be rude. So she turned her dazzling eyes back onto the leader. Scarter wondered if she was sending Kaj away so she could keep him away from Scarter. "Aye mam, it is Scarter." A pretty smile non the less. Another question for her. "Yes, mam, I would like be become a loyal member of worlds edge." But would that be enough to impress Kaj? Maybe she needed to do more to impress her current object of affection. "I would also like to offer my services to you Queen Mirage."

Gosh she really was being polite today. The dull mare had no idea what ranks or jobs there was in the herd, but she was honest in her words and intentions. She really did want to work hard...and of course impress Kaj. Who knew maybe she would end up meeting somebody even more interesting than Kaj. Although she doubted it. For some unfortunate reason (for him), he had really caught her sparkling eye. Her eyes in question though, still rested on Mirage, she was trying to decide if the leader was trying to keep Kaj and her apart or if she just didn't realise that she had interrupted Scarter's plans. There was no anger in the black mare's gaze, only a slight question and a lot of curiosity.

She offered the leader a smile and thought about her strengths...what would be useful to the herd? She frowned deep in thought and came up with nothing. "Only mam...I'm not really good at anything." The out loud honestly startled Scarter. She had never heard such words come out of her mouth! What was she thinking? She was perfectly amazing at things! Plotting, yes she was excellent at that. Getting what she wanted, she seemed to also have a certain skill there. Being drop dead gorgeous, So much to the point it wasn't a skill it just came naturally to her. She was aware that her breath was a little faster than usual. Slowing it down she looked at Mirage, now in a spot of trouble. Scarter never...learned anything new. She hated being taught and quite often was sure that she already knew everything. Well this meeting her brought her to the realisation that maybe she didn't know one or two things.

Still wanting to correct Kaj, she corrected herself. "Not good at anything the herd would find useful." Flipping her long mare over her shoulder she flashed her scars to the world, she rarely did this. To her the scars showed weakness and made her ugly. She had been taught to wear her scars with pride. Scarter struggled to listen to her teachers. But hey, she was beautiful enough to do well in life anyway. With that her over inflated ego came bounding back to her like a bunny rushing towards it's next meal.
