ANTIQUITY

walk "talk" think

The thrush was flittering through the trees. Its grey back shined as though made of glass rather than feathers. The bird was followed, but not by a predetor or by some watcher with a pair of binoculars and a book of species. By a slight, short, plucky little pony. Her travels made her weary but she pressed on, following the thrush to a land only fabled by the crazy and bold. A place where there are others of her kind. She doesn't expect there to be ones that look like her. Why, at twelve hands high, how could she? But maybe there are some that also have a shining horn from their skull as well.

As she entered the large field, she let the bird flutter away as she looked around. The gateway to a new life. There were some other equines around. Some normal looking, some with the wings of the fowl protruding from their shoulders and others like her, with a single horn. Her eyes bounced from soul to soul, but her curiosity wasn't strong enough to have her approach one of them. So she settled in the corner of the area, slowly picking grass from the ground. Her long, curly silver tail whipped around and lashed at the insects that pestered her.

She grazed for a while before lifting her head. No one has approached her, so she returns to her meal. The grass was a bit sweeter here, more moist. She continued to wound her way through the field, picking more at the shorter grass that grew nearer to the trees. The shade felt good after a long summer, but a chilling wind blew through the trees....

It's not the dog in the fight,
but the fight in the dog

Arah had no clue why she had wondered out here. Her thoughts where internal and her legs had just carried her to where ever she pleased. Now her golden orbs studied the Threshold, where she had entered helovia not too long ago. Since then however she had made her mark, she was a reasonably well known face in the Basin and a few outcasts knew her as well. However none of that was important, her eyes had settled on the way out from this particular area. She had no desire to run into any equines. She sighed in slight annoyance that she had traveled so far from The Basin. She had been wondering for a few days though, she was confused about what she wanted...no...who she wanted. She was also feeling terribly bad for stringing Crash along when she was a little unsure of what her feelings towards him really where. It was so easy to get lost in the moment and say things you didn't mean.

A chilling wind ruffled a few shorter strands of Arah's mane and tail. She came back to the present, and looked over to her left and spotted a small unicorn mare, grazing away. Arah pressed forward, a soft and pretty smile resting on her lips. "Excuse me" She called out to the smaller mare. Her approach was slow and cautious but she did want to assist the mare should she need it. New comers where generally lost as to where to go next, not wanting to cross paths with anyone dangerous. She paused just before the mare and studied her. Shorter and a soft grey colour. Actually she was quite short, Arah tilted her head to the side in wonder. Generally she was one the shortest mares in...well with most that she met. Her smile was a little coy now as she brought her eyes back up to the mares face. "Please forgive my rudeness." Arah cleared her throat slightly and started again. "My name is Arah, Phantom of Aurora Basin, are you lost or in need of help?"

Relaxing behind a tree was a bulky colt. Head held properly upright as he watched out towards the meadow not far from his position. Green eyes glistening as a mare moved gently, peacefully, unmoved by a watching soul. Her posture was small, body cute and rounded, while her head was slightly larger. She looked like a ball of fun and he was prepared to find out just who she was. A welcoming mare with short legs. Of course he was taller but that is only expected from his blood lines. Big boy with wavy hair and feathering, across his hide a wonderful silver buckskin tovero. Like islands of white on a sandy brown and black beach.

Abel's gaze shifted to watch as her head came up, only to lower once again for more food. Though the air shifted as soon as a white figure in the distance made her way towards the short bay. A pinked muzzle twitch in annoyance. The antler horned unicorn had just ruined a peaceful scene. If someone was to arrive upon him in such a state he would be highly rude and take to ignoring them, hoping for his peace to return, but this is only him. All are different, no two are exactly alike. Perhaps similar but we always have differences.

'Excuse me.' she called, 'Please forgive my rudeness.' 'My name is Arah, Phantom of Aurora Basin, are you lost or in need of help?' he began to move forth from the shelter of the trees. Making his way towards the group with a very slow leisurely walk. Insisting upon taking his sweet little time. Wind rustling through tendrils of his lengthy thick hair. Tickling the underneath of his belly, the sensitive areas of course, and somehow finding their way into his eyes. A painful feeling but nothing that couldn't be ignored. He stopped a short distance from them. Very formal and held properly in position, eyes staring deep to them, with ears perked forwards in attention. "Evening ladies, may I be of any assistance?" of course he was younger but respect was a majority in life, you get what you give, most of the time "I am Abel, son of Torasin, the Edge's Moon Doctor." smile pressed upon his lips.

ANTIQUITY

walk "talk" think

It was quiet. It seemed like everyone else has moved on or wandered out of earshot. She wasn't complaining, though. It was a peaceful quiet, undisturbed by the voices of others. As she grazed, her thoughts wandered around from the past few days to the ones filled with a certain future adventure. As she silently wondered about where her life will take her, a quiet voice came out of the grass. Lifting her head, she looked for the source of the voice, her eyes laying on a single, lightly colored mare. Her body was lithe, with the antlers of a stag growing from the base of her ears.

Pricking her own audits forward, she offered a smile, taking a step in her direction. She opened her mouth to address the strange mare, only to be distracted by a young stud approaching from behind. This stranger was large, with a thick bode covered in thick, two toned hair. She tossed him a smile as well. [i]"Well, this land is quite helpful indeed. It is a pleasure to meet you both, Arah and Abel. I am Antiquity. Though everyone just calls me Anti." Turning so she could see them both, she wondered if there are any others that she can talk to at eye level. She stands just over Abel's knees, and Arah's shoulder.

"Well, I guess I'm not really in need of help. If it is obvious, I just arrived to this land, in hopes of finding others that are as mystical as I am." She motioned to Arah. "It is apparent that I have found it." Her own sweet voice fell silent. She wans't sure what else to say to the other horses. So she opted for a smile aimed at the both of them.

The equine approaching the group caused a whirl of emotions in Arah's stomach. Hate, fear and anger all bubbled up inside the white mares chest. Her face remained passive, however her golden eyes bore into the equines. She swished her tail in agitation as he offered both Arah and the other equine assistance. Her eyes narrowed and she muttered rather rudely, "No, I am fine thank you." Her eyes turned back to the other mare, as she introduced herself. Antiquity, it was quite a pretty name. Arah offered her a smile, even though her posture was stiff due to the arrival of the younger colt. For now the pale mares thoughts where focussed on either bringing the mare with her back to the safety of The Basin, or returning there herself. Anti mentioned searching for other that where finding others that are as mystical as I am. Well this mare had been found by no other than Arah, the member of a large herd which was home to only unicorns and one hybrid. Arah's smiled turned coy and even smug and she glanced towards the hideous equine.

"Well Anti, it's your lucky day." Arah's tones here soft, her mood finally settled into a blank bask of calm. "Aurora Basin is not only home to mythical unicorns." She paused to toss a look that clearly showed her disapproval of him not being either. "Only unicorns live there." There was no way Arah was going to let this mare wonder off with this outcast without her knowing what she was missing out on. Her pale form moved closer to the small mare, gentle footfalls as if not to spook the small mare. The Basin was where Arah would only ever call home. zit was perfect in so many respects. Not even being stolen from The Basin by Angora had scared her away from her beloved home.

Arah tones where confident as she spoke next. "I must say, you will fit in wonderfully with our herd!" A true smile settled on her chops. Arah had barely acknowledged the colt since his arrival on the scene. and quite frankly she didn't see why she should. Her strong dislike for equines ran true, her fear over them was starting to fade though.

Despite the white mares face that remained passive, her agitated tail swishing and rude tones bore into his mind. Sending remnants of memories throughout his head. Each and every story his mother had told him of the ugly unicorns, the disgusting pegasus, how his own mother was racist beyond belief. Abel knew the signs, knew of the growing tension between Arah's tongue and hurtful tones. He met her gaze with his own, despite the calm and happiness he approached with, his insides began to swell. A heat that could not be disguised, green eyes narrowed and his breaths were deep. A shallow voice within his head screamed 'Kill.' but he vowed to make his father proud. Hoped to not become just as his mother was. Though the smaller mare began to introduce herself and his deep stare shifted to a wonderful pleasant look as those emerald eyes hovered to the short gal. Abel's head lowered to meet her gaze at a very respective and less threatening level. "Anti?" his smile widens and a lower chuckle escaped his maw, "I would never dream of shortening such a beautiful name, Antiquity it is." his expression was loyal and kind. A vow to protect this mare he knew nothing of but her wonderful attitude. Antiquity had not proven to get nothing less than respect and protection.

Arah's voice began to pierce the air again and despite the fire swelling within his lungs, his face remained low and very welcoming. He would not stoop to her level, even with the smirk that settled upon her disgusting racist face. "Arah is quite correct," he explained shortly after the white bitch had finished "it is only unicorns there and for quite a childish reasoning." Abel's tones become hollow and annoyed. "You see, in her eyes, I am nothing but a low life equine that does not bore the special bone placed upon your head. To her I am a nobody and deserve to rot away but there is nothing different about us. We all bear the same blood and relatives. We've all just adapted in different ways, been gifted by the gods, or favored by the realms." he smiles "If you wish to live somewhere without being judged by race, or discriminated upon... or even somewhere you can call a real family I can offer myself as your guide to visiting the Worlds Edge, Windtossed Foothills, and even the Dragons Throat." neck still lowered and face level with Anitquity's. A smile that never faded away, a warm welcoming heart that did not dance away in defeat.

"We all belong somewhere my dear but I fear the Basin is not quite right for you m'lady. You're far to pleasant to live among a family of prejudice." and he waits, with hope and kindness. Antiquity's decision was hers and he would not force anything upon her, nor would he judge her for her choice.

ANTIQUITY

--------------------------------------------------------------------
walk "talk" think

There was tension between the two strangers. She didn't understand the sudden hate in the air, but it became quite clear with Abel's words. Her ears flicked back with the awkward silence that followed. It seemed as both the stallion and the unicorn mare awaited a decision that she wasn't prepared to make. Had she known that there seemed to be a competition between herds to recruit members, she would have worked her way around the battlefield. But now there were two pairs of eyes staring at her to choose between two herds she had no knowledge of.

She leaned more towards Abel's soft green eyes. There was a fire that sparked with Arah's racism for his species, but he maintained his composer and seemed to do what he could to make sure she was warmly welcomed. On the other hand, she did travel all this way to be surrounded by others of her kind. They can't be all racist right? She grew up around the more normal species, and had many "friends" amoung them. She stepped back a couple of steps, regarding the pair with quizzical eyes. "I...I would like variety in my friendships. I find that normal looking horses are just as interesting as unicorns. I have yet to meet a pegasus, though I am confident that they have their share of interesting stories...." She trailed off, begining to get lost in her thoughts.

She was quiet for a moment, trying to sort her racing mind and respond to both of their propositions without getting their tangled feelings for each other mangled in the process. "I know nothing of your herd, Arah. But I feel it in my best interests to explore for a bit, get a feel for this new world. Perhaps in the future, I will find you, and you can welcome me to your home. For now, I suppose I will take your offer, Abel, and accompany you. I wish you good health and happiness, Arah."

The small Welsh turned towards the large, young stallion. Offering a smile, she thought about sending him a face to tell him to hurry and escort her out of the area. To be honest, Arah's hatred for the cold surprised and embarressed her. How rude, she acted. It was souls like her that gave her species such a bad name. No wonder the other members of her foal-herd regarded her with such animosity. They must have thought that she was smug and rude. She will make it a life goal to prove them wrong. Unicorns must be regal, peaceful and saintly. Anything less is unacceptable.

Arah listened to the colts rant with a neutral expression, when he finished she did not speak. She felt no desire to explain herself to him. He, after all knew nothing about her and what his kind had done to her. The mare had decided to head with the the hornless one, Arah's lips parted in confusion. "In one breath you speak as if you wish to leave with me, then you decide to leave with the hornless one?" Arah questioned the mare. Her voice was not angry, on the contrary it was soft and slightly hurt. She had been rather looking forward to company on the trip back to the Basin. He eyes bore into the mares and then she puffed out a long breath. "I guess I should explain myself", she turned and looked at...Abel straight on. "I am not a racist mare in the slightest." She now glanced at Anti and offered her a shaky smile before pressing on. "I was stolen from my home by hornless ones and they kept me captive for sometime." She heard the pain in her own voice. It became hard to find her voice. In an attempt to clear her head and find her voice again, she looked down to her amulet. It had always calmed her. "It is true, that members of my herd are racist, but the number of us who are not outweigh them." She pressed on. "It is also true that I do not respect or partically like hornless beings that I do not know." She glanced to Abel's direction. "However, believe it or not I do have equine friends." She smiled thinking of Argetlam. Now she turned and faced Anti directly. "If you ever change you mind let me know. The Basin is also a place for family and healing, I hope to one day heal from this hate that I suffer from."

As she began walking away she turned and faced the pair. She tilted her head to the side slightly and smiled. "I too hope to one day meet a pegasus. They fascinate me, They way they are so...free." She looked to Abel and gave him a half smile. Was it possible that she was feeling a tiny bit sorry for the way she had acted towards him? "Take care of her Abel...and my apologises for being a bitch to you. My scars have yet to fade." with that the pale mare began to slowly walk away.

Notes; If you are no longer interested in coming to The Basin, that's fine but I will drop out from the thread here. If you change you mind and do wish to come with Arah then just mention so in the next post.

She's not actually a bitch for no reason. xD

As Abel finished raving the white one refused to say a word. No explanation for herself, nothing to jump down his throat claiming she was not racist. He figured he had nailed it right on the spot. Knowing clearly that she may just be proud of who she was and how she treated others, it surely is nothing to be proud of in any way though. Antiquity's ears had flopped backwards, a position not threatening but she was obviously feeling pushed or awkward in such a situation. She was not the only one, Abel knew not why he stopped instead of turning around and high tailing it out of there. After all, as an outcast it was not his duty to recruit members for herds. Deep down he just felt Antiquity deserved to see what the world was like before she was dragged down into racism like the rest.

Throughout Antiquity's speech Abel kept his head low, level with the short mares face, to keep himself at a respectful and less threatening level (hoping to make her feel comfortable with the situation she was placed in). When she finished, green eyes lit up with a bright and hopeful glare, as they began to settle upon Arah's face he smiled. Not a daring or sly smile but just a smile. Nothing to intimidate her or anger her, he was just pleasant today. "Your choice is warming, Antiquity, I shall bring you to each herdland for a visit." face coming back towards the cute pony.

It was then that his fire sparked again, Arah's voice split the air. A confused tone that parted her lips with each word spraying into his ears. Inside he laughed, outside he remained quiet. White face turning to meet his, "No need to explain m'lady, we've got the picture." calm, smooth tones leaked with a hint of fire and spite. Still she continued on. Green eyes became rather glazed with heat, his nostrils flaring a tiny bit, "And because of their mistake and your misfortune, you judge all equines as the same. I am sorry but we are not all the same. I guess I could judge you for your ancestors mistake upon attacking my mother?" he spat. Temper boiling, losing his calm facade, brows merged and teeth grit together. Muscles tensed as he began to listen to her continue. Turning his face from her, he did the best he could to return to his calm and relaxed state. Emerald eyes glancing to the trees behind Antiquity. Watching as the wind ran through the drying leaves. Drowning out the sound of Arah's voice. "Apologies are not needed, you've said what you meant. Goodbye Arah." his face still directly placed upon the trees.

Abel aimed to place his muzzle against Antiquity's neck, urging her slightly to follow him in case she chose to ignore the others rant and daydream. "I'm sorry to have you witness this." his tones becoming soft and saddened "Though I am glad you have seen some of the racism before you have been sucked into it yourself." White and brown legs began to move North. "We will start our long journey by visiting the Foothills first. Here is a family known as the Grey," he began, remembering listening to others talk as he wandered aimlessly throughout Helovia "all species are welcome here and it is a rather wonderful place. I am sure you will enjoy your visit." He smiles. Taking a breath and continuing on, hoping she does not mind his rambling "I will then take you to the Edge, a family in particular known as the Qian, led by Mirage the Dragonheart. A wonderful mare indeed. I must warn you though, the mist there can be quite beautiful but dangerous, remember to watch your footing. And next the Dragons Throat, lead by Kri. They are not in the least bit racist but this is mainly a family of pegasus, do not expect extreme pampering unless you bear wings." a fair warning. Nothing that sent a negative impulse towards the Throat but he has heard stories. "And of course I can accompany you in finding someone from the Basin, if you would like, to visit there also. And in the end if you see that none of the herds please you, you may live your life as an outcast and roam Helovia, as I do." a sweet smile placed upon his lips as he plucks his way through the trees. A long journey ahead of them but he is fully up to taking her wherever she may wish.

ANTIQUITY

walk "talk" think

Her heart went out to Arah. To be stolen and persecuted must have been horrible for her. She shuddered to think what she would do if her slight frame replaced the white mares. Maybe in her mind, her hatred was justified. Though her hate bristled a stallion who was only here to help. His young mind was tainted by being surrounded by racism, and yet he somehow came out undeterred.

Her head lowered slightly. A comforting look was smeared on her features, and she truly felt sorry for Arah. But her decision was made. She was determined to visit each herd, including the Basin, before thinking about joining one. Her experience with herds wasn't the best, but she was getting older in her years. She needed stability. It was with that thought on her mind that she turned with Abel. His words were a bit sharp, but she ignored the feuding pair. Sending a warm smile behind her, she stopped and nickered towards Arah. "I will meet you again, Arah. Until then, prosper and smile."

She started to follow Abel, pricking her auds to listen to his description of the different herds that call this strange land home. It was a lot of information, so she wasn't concerned with memorizing his words. She will see for herself shortly. She lengthened her stride, almost trotting to keep up with the larger colt's stride. "I shall let you lead me, Abel. Though I am unsure if becoming an outcast at my age is wise." A chuckle fell from her lips and she smiled in excitement of the journey before them.
