VALHALLA ; THE EARTHEN BORN HAVEN ; PARADISE ON EARTH ; THE GREEN LAND ; THE GOD'S BLESSED
"Here in this grassy field, where the Earthen Gods themselves lay to rest, we shall live in forever peace and we are blessed by the serenity of the gods; we shall hone our skills and perfect our trades, until we are the very strongest of all; and then, only then, will we open up our unyielding borders to the hard world about us, my dear friends; long live Valhalla!"
   -- The Priestess Gaiia, year 21

The most fabulous and secretive places of them all, the crisply tended green fields of the earthen unicorns, the Marls [meaning "workable earth material"] are the sturdy, stoic animals believing in the Earth God's strength. They are always striving to become shorter, believing it will bring them closer to Terr [Earth God].

BELIEFS

"Are we perfect, m'lad? No, we are not! Only the majestic gods of our world maybe be so bold as to call themselves perfect; for they are divinity, immortal in all its terrible glory, after all; but alas for our flaws we have our seeds of good, and mayhaps they will flower into something beautiful and great, should we heed the words of wise old crotchety men such as myself, hmm?"
    -- Hierndeh the Bold's Ventures, written by Geneva Stoneheart

gods;
There are two gods, just two; the lord of the earth, Terr, and the lady of the sky, Haven; the earth lord is formed of clay and stone, breathing life into the world and tending to Valhalla fondly as a gardener to his beloved flowers. The sky lady, precious and awe-inspiring within the little people of the earthern hold, is known for her coat of pale azure and mane and tail of snow-white, untouchable as the stars and rare to be seen. While they dearly worship Terr, they still are respectful and wary of the fond sky lady, and hold a deep fascination for beings that can fly.

superstitions; *
  • a birch tree has been forsaken by the earth god, the reason for its pale bark; these are to be avoided at all costs
  • sleeping through sunset calls for the sky lady's love, and will turn you mad
  • to hold your breath is to forsake the earth's love, and will poison you from the inside, and so you will die
  • moving water is home to nymphs, and is to be avoided at all costs
  • stone statues will rip apart your essence, and it is expected that only clay that may harden will be used in crafting projects
  • fire is the ultimate evil, the plague and the devil; to call upon it is to call for your hide to be torn from your muscle
  • the upturned roots of trees forewarns a great evil
  • a bloody sunset will mean a murder
  • a night without stars means the world will end

* Superstitions mean that these are more optional beliefs, and not all horses will believe this or that; they are a little more like stories in Valhalla's context

beliefs;
  • if you are to leave the sanctuary of Valhalla, you shall lose all immortality and shall never return
  • the earth god's blessed will be granted gifts of ultimate strength, and these blessed are to be respected for they have proven themselves tirelessly
  • to worship the sky lady is considered to be worshipping disloyalty, and while you may do so, you will be scorned
  • unicorns have no god, and are to be shunned
  • pegasi, while avoided, are respected for they have a god, the sky lady in her pale blue cloaks

values;
  • honesty
  • strength
  • loyalty
  • self-sacrifice
  • bravery
  • introverted, in the sense you must not "need" to speak constantly

CREATION

as of currently, they are NOT open for creation

In appearance, they are thickly-built ponies, appearing almost closer to miniature drafts in many cases. Robustly shaped with big curves, even in males, broad chests and short legs, they can seem a little out of proportion. Without exception Marls hold to thick feathers, shaggy manes, and thick tangled tails; they are normally of earthy colors, dark chestnuts and rich bays being most prominent in their reclusive little society. White horses in particular are scorned; and black horses are immediately thought to be closer to the moon god, and so their alignment is malformed and poor. Females and males often sport small hooked horns; more like little spurs, sometimes from their forehead and secondmostly from behind the ear; and sometimes, rarely, these little spikes [rather like the foremost horn of the rhinoceros] can be found on the wither. Despite this marking them as a unicorn, the Marls still firmly believe themselves to be equine in all aspects, spitting upon true-horned ones and holding fascination with winged animals.

They tend to be quite superstitious and rather gruff characters to create, so basically, they are loads of fun if you are lucky enough to have one. They have a distinct, thick sort of dialect that makes it hard to hear them, a touch mangled if you here me; they don't really pronounce their 'r's, can't seem to grasp 's', and prefer short tight words as compared to flowy long ones.
