Mauja the FrostHeart
ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

With Onni for company they'd set out for the Veins, steadily working their way west across the land. The day's heat had cooled off, and while the Veins, jutting blue out into the sea, still loomed on the horizon dusk had overtaken them. Steadily the sun had slipped down, until it was nothing but a flaming rim over the horizon and the eastern sky had darkened, mottled blue and purple. A few strong stars shone brightly, but the orange and blood red of the sunset still dominated the sky. Mauja, however, could've been happier. He'd managed to avoid traveling with Kri the Terror, but he was still stuck with Gossamer the Blackmailer. But with the fall of the temperature, even his temper had cooled; the initial annoyance in which he had arrived at the Foothills had subsided to a dull throb, and he was more of his usual, cool self. He didn't enjoy her company still, and probably never would, but just looking at her didn't piss him off anymore. It just made him want to sigh and shrug.

Instead, he'd focused on Indy and Onni, and had tried to have some small talk and pleasant conversations with them, but... well. He wasn't sure how well it'd gone, really. Indy was pleasant and seemed to be untroubled by whatever lead mareish instinct that made them suspicious, and Onni seemed a sweet mare. He'd fallen quiet now, though, and had walked in silence for quite some time; he sighed, pausing briefly at the isthmus leading across the blue-tinged magma. Here we are, he thought to himself. He'd been here once before, with d'Artagnan, and met with the God of Earth. He hoped those celestial deities were home today, but you never knew. With a flick of his pale tail, Mauja began to cross to the volcano, eying the stuff with distaste. Absentmindedly he thought he would be fun to push Gossamer off the path and into it, but it would hardly help his foreign relations to do it... And it wouldn't be possible to push Kri had she been with them, for she could just flap those wings and disappear into the sky. Oh, well. The time of reckoning would come for them all.. at some point.

He swept up to the shrines, a wind ruffling his raven feathers. During the climb the sun had finally set and the moon-in-the-sky had come out; as a result of it, Mauja's pupils had grown clouded, silvery and otherworldly. The stars seemed brighter, the shadows around him darker, and the wind was soothingly cold. Around her shrine, thin, blue-frosted spikes of ice snaked up, their sharp tips breaking off and falling to the ground. He would not come with weapons in the midst of strangers, but he felt the need to give the Moon something, something more tangible than his heart. He turned his head to peer at the two equines, wondering if they would give anything to their patron God. "Moon and Earth, please here us. We suffer, and we ask for guidance," he murmured. You did not need to shout at the Gods to make them hear you.

( Gossamer, Indy, and Onni first. ^^ Sadly I don't have a VotG pass so :/ *fingers crossed for a good die roll!* )

the open-hearted make such a mess of themselves.</style>

Onni bids her mother a farewell, falling in behind the group of leaders. Naturally, the tobiano felt a bit out of place in such a splendorous company. She felt much like a filly again, in the presence of adults - to be seen and not particularly heard. The whole trip had been made in relative silence, but Onni's mind was racing. While the leaders of the Foothills handled themselves with quiet dignity, it did not seem to touch the icy calm of Mauja, who had faced a rather brutal, unspoken assualt from her mother without so much as a grimace. To be honest, she found this quite fascinating.

Most who went toe-to-toe with Kri did not walk away so unruffled.

The healer was not entirely sure why her mother or Gossamer were so keen to act as though Mauja was a common criminal, but she did not believe it was her place to ask. Instead, just before reaching the Veins, Onni sidled up next to Mauja, after a short jaunty trot forward. She turned a calm expression toward him, blue eyes kind. "I am sorry for my mother's behavior," she says to him, the King of the Edge. "She is not usually so unpleasant." Well, not in the presence of mares - stallions were a bit of a different story. Still, the silver bay had seemed especially peeved at Mauja's appearance.

"Something about you must disturb her."

The words were spoken with a light voice, and not intended to be insulting. However, in review of her speech, Onni's eyes widen slightly and drop to the ground as she realizes how they can be construed. "Not that you're disturbing or anything." Mauja's eyes had appeared to have glazed over during the fall of the night, and the tobiano relaxed.

The icy unicorn breaks away from the group toward the shrine of the moon, once they had scaled the rest of the way. Onni watches him curiously as ice spikes rise from the ground and topple by the shrine. An intriguing magic, but one not born of the Moon. The pegasus finds this curious indeed. Stepping out toward the shrine of the Sun God, Onni tilts a pale face downward in respect, her blonde hair reaching out with a gust of wind, redirected by her, to touch the smooth surface of the rock. "Thank you for the light," she whispers, perhaps the only of her company thankful to the Sun God.

She then makes her way back toward Mauja, falling in beside him once more to await the presence of the Gods. Hopefully they would hear their prayers.

{sorry, but I'm on a diff comp and I dont have goss's pass. lol. so As Gossamer}

She wanders with them, the Pearlescent mare. While this one unicorn unnerves her more than the others she does not know. She hasn't used her mind reading on him, only read the waves and vibes she get from him, yet still there is something which bothers her. Something like a hidden passion, or hate, or well a secret. She is relieved that Onni has come instead of Kri, for she knew it would have been likely that fighting would have errupted on the way to the sacred land.

Metallic white, regal, calm, and reverent she enters the Veins as she had done only a few short months ago. What changes had occured since then, what complexities had arisen. It never ceased to intrigue Gossamer that horses always made sure to live life at a pace comparable to their time upon land. If there was anything she had learned over the years it was that things never stayed the same. Her mind is drawn back to the present as Mauja grows crystals at the base of the Moon Godess's shrine. The glint of the crystals in the low night light unnerve her and she cannot help but be worried more by this strange unicorn.

Forceably, she turns her attention to the shrine of the Earth God and pulls the trinket she asked Narmer to craft for her. It is a crown of leaves and flowers with small animals, all crafted from stones. Jade and turquoise for the circlet and leaves with Lapis Lazulli and small yellow sapphires held in place by intricate patterns of gold for yellow birds. A few rubies and blue sapphires can also be found. The design tells a story of life, starting with the flowers and then birds and so on. It slowly goes around with a cacophony of animals until it spirals up to the front to show a muscular horse resembling the Earth God at the very front of the crown. She knows it is a bit gaudy but feels that it shows all of the aspects of his land well enough he should feel properly honored.

She bows deeply to the ground before both the alters before rising again and speaking reverantly, with kindness and softness in her voice(obviously putting the unnerving mauja temporarily out of her head.) as she recalls what Enna had said to her that her son called the Gods Three. Her voice is quiet, almost a whisper, so others may have a hard time hearing."Father Earth and Sister Moon, your Creations suffer and thirst, please help us.". and she waits with the gathered.

Once they left the Dragon's Throat, along with Kri, behind them the trip had become much nicer and a lot quieter. Onni was pleasant to be around. Anger did not radiate off of her and threaten to consume everyone around her like it did her mother. Indy was comfortable for the most part, walking in calm silence next to Onni and Mauja. As Onni spoke one of his ears tilted in her direction. "Your mother is distrustful." He said gently. He was in no way trying to insult the mare, he was just interjecting what he had observed. "While I understand her reluctance for trusting someone she doesn't know well, it can be a bit of a hinderance when it comes to forging treaties and alliances. Alienate someone enough and they won't come to your aid when you need it." He finally glanced toward Onni and Mauja. "Forgive me for interrupting." He nodded his head respectfully to Onni. He was merely stating his own opinion on the fact and hoped that his mate had been listening in as well. He'd noticed the looks she was giving Mauja and he felt it uncalled for, especially since the stallion had done nothing to warrant suspicion in his opinion. If she were suspicious of him then she needed to be that suspicious of everyone that crossed the Foothills' borders.

As they reached the shrine Indy stood and watched Mauja as he grew ice crystals at the base of the Moon Goddess' shrine then Gossamer as she placed a crown at the base of the Earth God's. He stepped beside Gossamer, gently nuzzling her poll before looking up toward the sky. He hoped the Gods accepted their gifts and would appear before them. He desperately hoped that their trip hadn't been for nothing.

Earth God & Moon Goddess

An ice spike begins to float loftily in the air, as if some invisible person is holding it up for observation. Yet, they are not invisible, and certainly not a human. You might see black lightly curled around the center of the spike, like a whip of night. Then, the gleam of silver appears behind them, liquid eyes of the moon. She materializes behind the gift, retracting her appendage of darkness to bring her the ice spike directly, where it disappears from sight.

"Welcome, trusted king of the Edge," she says, her voice a whisp of air floating in toward the company. Her wings fold neatly against her figure, black horn projecting out toward the darkening sky. Night was settling on the world, a thing of beauty she could bring to her children. "And his company." Her eyes scan the crowd, noting that the pair of equines obviously favored her brother, and took them to live within the Foothills. The pegasus stood close to her childish sibling's shrine, but the lady recognized the face of the healer. Such arts were not easily handed down.

Her loyalty to the troublesome god was impressive, if not foolish.

The golden crown began to glow with a shade of green, next, and a chuckle rang out in the night. Pounding steps, like boulders falling from a cliff, radiate in the air as the Earth God approaches. His figure easily towers over the two friesian stallion's here, and especially that of his dainty sister, the moon. Still, his open expression and smiling face would dwarf his size, and make him appear no more than a cuddly teddy bear. "Welcome, my children," he says, the crown floating off into some unscene room - the storage of all the God's gifts. "Such an opulent trinket you have prepared for me, Chieftess."

The Gods shift to stand together, presenting a united front. Then, the crinkled face of Father Earth takes on a sorry expression, while the Moon God looks more or less unchanged. "We regret to inform you that while we are well aware of the suffering caused by our brother's actions that there is little we can do," they say in unison, though the warm voice of the Earth nearly cloaks the shifting voice of the Moon. "Summer reigns now," the lady says, explaining their inaction. "And thus the sun."

"Until the fall of autumn, my sister and I are rather powerless to aid you in the eradication of the heat," the great bay adds. "Yet we can grant you gifts to help survive this brutal season, and provide answers to any of your queries." Brother and sister nod, watching the crowd expectantly.

Mauja the FrostHeart
ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

Strangely enough, Indy chose to walk beside him; it felt.. both good, and weird, as if out of place. Onni had dropped behind a little, but came trotting up to speak with him. She was trying to apologize for her mother's behavior, and he gave her a tired smile, hoping to soothe her worry. The fewer that found reason to investigate his flair for being disturbing, the better. Indy chimed in, and Mauja nodded thoughtfully. "I hope she'll get over it," he said quietly, and he meant it, but what else could he say? Having Kri being so suspicious of him was annoying, to say the least, but the Sun was even more of a nuisance. The path thinned, and they were single file once more until coming up at the shrines.

Onni and Indy didn't seem to give anything tangible, but Gossamer dropped an amulet of sorts; a familiar shimmering in the air heralded the Moon's approach, and Mauja's head fell towards the earth in a bow. The ice was spirited away, and her greeting made his heart swell with pride and warmth, of all strange things. He looked up again, and she was as beautiful as he remembered her, even though she wore wings. She was his patron goddess, his realm's protector, and it was in her name they sweated and bled - for her, and her blessed darkness.

Hooves like thunder heralded her brother Earth, whom had allowed d'Artagnan his powers; Mauja's head inclined for him too. He had no quarrel with the tall, thick stallion, even though the Moon held all of his heart. They knew why the quartet had come and spoke; his ears flickered to their voices and their queer harmony, the deep thunder of Earth and the silvery whisper of Moon. Disappointment weighed his heart down momentarily, but he rallied, looking at them with something unyielding in his eyes. There was hope, then, and he would not bow under the onslaught of the sun. "Please," he began, not feeling strange begging of gods. "If you can, grant my herd something which offers us respite from the heat, and water in our drying brooks." His head tilted slowly to the side. "And, once autumn comes, what will you do? Is there something we can do, to aid you?"

Indy spoke of her mother in a manner that spoke of his role of a leader, simply because he seemed to take his view of Kri as correct. However, Onni knew that distrust was not truly a quality that she held near her heart. Instead of arguing with the stallion for the sake of a pride not her own, the mare simply smiles, not acknowledging him as wrong or right. Distrustful? That was not a word she would use to describe Kri. Protective fit her much better.

The unicorn king to whom she had been speaking gave a weak response, not particularly moved by either speech given by his company. It was strange to see him so disconnected from the others. The tobiano did not know this King very well, could not make such assumptions of him, but she suspected that he held this cool demeanor toward everyone. It saddened her slightly, though she would not speak to him about it. To be so isolated from others, in any sense, would be lonely, and Onni knew how suffocating loneliness could be - even if he had not yet begun to feel the crunch.

Perhaps the foolish healer in her wanted to aid him, or maybe it was the kindness in her heart. Either way, she felt the need to understand this stallion, but that did not come without wary. His mystery was also dangerous.

The time her mind spends upon Mauja, turning like gears in a clock, is short, for in moments the appearance of the Gods begins. Onni is quite enraptured by the first figure to appear. A mare with beauty unbounded, standing in a regal manner that almost matched Mauja's and Gossamer's. The light blue eyes of the tobiano only widen, even as the leaders seem unplussed by the appearance of the deity.

Her awe is not left to unwind so quickly, for the next appearance is even more impressive. A gentle face worn by an immense body, with two twirling ram horns. The pale face only seems to gape more with awe, jaw even slackening slightly. They begin to speak, and Onni listens carefully, disheartened by their statement of inability. Still, they promised aid in the form of gifts, which Onni did not truly need, but her herd definitely might.

Before she can speak, Mauja's voice rings, unaltered by the presence of the Moon and Earth. He asks fair questions, and Onni smiles at him. "The oasis of the Dragon's Throat is parched, and the lake falls shallower everyday. Is there anyway you can restore our land's only source of relief?"
