Large paws flexed, claws extending to rake across the ground and through the dirt as the jaguar stood there. Her amber eyes almose seemed to glow in the darkness of the woods. This place reminded her of the Woodlands back in Isilme. The place was rampant with dark energy just as this place was. It made her feel invigorated. Alive. This was the place a herd should be. It was much better than those damned foothills ruled by the pale, cowardly mare and her loud mouthed counterpart. A growl rumbeled in her chest and she stalked foward, her head low and her tail twitching from side to side.

Being in the foothills did not suit her, but she would not be separated from her sons, especially Archibald. No, she wanted to watch him. She wanted to witness his rise to glory, witness the deaths of those impetulent mares by his hoof, and laugh as their lifeless bodies were dragged to the edge of the herdland and left there to rot in the sun. It would be a sign to all those who dared enter her territory and question her.

A roar errupted from the jaguar's mouth and echoed through the forest. Her excitement at seeing those two dead had gotten the better of her and she'd given away her presence in the forest to anyone that was near. It was no matter, however. She was not worried about anyone knowing where she was or what she was doing. She was not scared of anyone. She grinned a toothy grin before slipping between a set of trees and hunkering down. Despite the roar that probably scared all of the game it was time to hunt whatever, or whoever, might be stupid enough to investigate.

Loretta drew her ears back, eyes lifting to Archibald to ask what the issue was. Archibald grew more and more pleased at his companion each day. At her curiosity of the roar he stepped towards it and sent calming waves to her, reassuring her that it was safe and familiar. Mandrake was close and he needed to find her. Moving his large body he went after the mare's scent and sounds. She had made the entire forest silent, the only noise now was the thundering of his massive hooves and his companion following closely. Archibald kept his canter slow and easy, his mother's call was not one specifically for him, just a call out to the earth to announce her presence and power.

Rolling into a stop the giant horse lowered his head and watched the forest floor, waiting for the panther to come strolling out from her hiding place. "Mother, I am here." He called, tail swishing and tapping Loretta to move her underneath him. Archibald still wasn't sure about how Mandrake felt about his companion, especially the dog being female. He knew of his mother's great jealousy and still he needed to protect his bonded from her if she would become hostile, Loretta was his and he was hers, and it was the way it would always be.

In the shadows of the trees Archibald was cooler, his dark body wrapped up in the heat of Tallsun. Carefully he took another step forward, lifting his head and stomping on foot, shaking the ground with his new power of tremors. "I can smell you, mother!"

She could hear the thundering hoof beats of someone approaching and she could feel a little flutter of excitement in the pit of her stomach. Whoever it was she would take by surprise. They would never know what hit them and they would only be able to panic as she sank her teeth into a fleshy throat and raked her claws down shoulders. Again, she extended her claws and dug them into the ground. They were sharp. She would use them to peel back her prey's flesh, hopefully while it was still alive to feel the pain.

The hoofbeats stopped and Mandrake listened with a mixture of disappointment and joy as her son answered her. Obedient as always. Mandrake stood, though she stayed in the cover of the bushes she had been hiding in and watched him and the little bitch dog that followed him around. She was disgusted that he would need such a companion. Had she not given him a big enough family?

A shuffling and scratching sound was the only one she made as she took to the trees. Gracefully, the jaguar moved onto a branch above Archibald and Loretta. As Archibald stomped the ground and sent tremors rocking through it she grinned again. "My, my, what power you have now, my son." she said. "ell me, how did you come across it?"

As the tremors ceased Archibald heard the venomous voice of his mother, however only catching the last part of her speech. "The power came with Loretta, the Gods gifted me well." He spoke smoothly and matter-of-factly, unusual from his natural eloquent speech. The black equine lifted his head to watch the jaguar, mane parting over his eyes like a waterfall. "What brings you to the forest, surely you have already eaten your fill or else you wouldn't have made a call." Archibald lifted an eyebrow, tail swishing again to remove the pesky flies that followed the entire season of Tallsun.

Loretta stood solid next to Archibald, her figure growing larger and more powerful each day; yet,, no matter what happened, she was dwarfed and vulnerable next to the massive equine she was bonded to. They were going to grow into an amazing team, already they fed off of each other nicely and even with Loretta's broken, foal-like speech Archibald communicated with her effectively.

The faint scent of blood creeps in from the forest's depths, and there is a sense that many have died. A rabbit darts by, dragging its bleeding back leg behind it and brushing past Loretta without a care. There is a roar from the woods, and suddenly it becomes clear that there is something far more sinister than the mother and son pair beyond the trees. The beast cries out once more, sounding as if it is in pain, and it becomes unclear as to whether or not it has killed or been injured itself. The beast will not draw nearer unless lead by sound or the scent of blood, but the family had best be careful, unless they are looking for a fight.

The grin faded a bit as Archibald revealed that he had gotten the power along with the little bitch from the gods as gifts. "Gifts." She repeated, sounding none too impressed by the revelation. "You better not have begged for them, Archibald." She warned her son. "Begging is weakness and I did not raise you to be weak." No, she raised him to be a strong and proud warrior. Of all of her sons she had raised him the best and she expected the most out of him. He was the only one who had not disappointed her in some way since his birth.

A roar sounded from deep within the woods and, rather than be startled, Mandrake felt a rush of excitement. Helovia had been quiet boring since she had escaped there with her family. The Foothills herd was so peace oriented she could vomit. Their peaceful preaching was nothing but bile. It did nothing but aggravate Mandrake's inner kitty and make her restless and blood thirsty.

"It seems as though we might have a little company, Archibald!" Said excitedly. "What do you say we throw it a welcome party?"
