KAJ
“The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles. No matter what you say about it, there is always that which you can't.”

Word had reached pale harks.

They have tried to take our little ones.

Azale was a name unfamiliar to the giant man, but his teeth had ground and his jaw had clenched until pain had fired through his synapses when he had at last been informed. What sick devil tried to spirit away a youngling from the loving home they knew? It had boiled the WeyrLeader's blood until it ran thick and hot like lava, his fury nearly enough to seize the darkened skies above by force to illuminate them once more in carmine streaks. Realistically he could not, but it would not stop him from smearing the blood of his foe along the pale earthen tones of his thick pillars. Kaj would seize them by the throat, throw them around as if they held no weight to throw him. He would show them that nobody messed with a singer of Luna, that the World's Edge would destroy all who tried to harm their family. Kaj had been set upon the scent, and like a bloodhound he pursued it viciously, sweet face struck in anger and captured in stone. He does not tire himself, refusing to give the opponent he is searching for the advantage, but also finding the idea of tripping and sprawling over the ground rather unappealing. So he hunts on, a swift-footed archer trailing a clueless buck.

Kaj of course is not so silent of tread. He is a massive beast, and though his mother had lent him the longer spine and leaner frame, he did not possess fully the grace she had always displayed. The steady rolls of thunder he summons into the ears of all those around echo forth from his hooves beneath his substantial musculature. Icy earth cannot withstand the force of his passing, clumps flying around him as he snorts like some wild stallion from centuries ago, when conversation was held only in the flicker of harks and the flashing of teeth. A primal world. Twisted trees are all that light his way, leaves glowing upon similarly luminescent branches. It is all that keeps the enraged WingLeader from crashing into the various redwoods that reach towards a sun that no longer exists in the rolling land of the Meadows. Frostfall has killed all possible life, even the thistle wilts with the combination of a frozen world and lack of nutrients. Kaj swears as he crushes these brittle stalks beneath his mass that the Assassin that tried to steal precious Azale would fall and break similarly.

Like hell he'd let the cur get away with trying to steal the one thing most precious to the WingLeader. Nobody- nobody- harmed a child sheltered beneath his wings.

Into the darkness he bellows, a roar of thunder that belies the name his beloved companion had given him upon their meeting- a winged lion. He summons the devil spawn, Tonka, and he does so with fury in every crashing tone. He is not just from the World's Edge. He is the World's Edge. In his heart beats the crashing waves against the cliffs that give his home its name. In his actions lies the mysticism of the fog that flows eerily throughout the forests every dawn. The pines that sheltered them, those that had always stood strong and unyielding, lived in his bones and held him similarly. So in his summons, the strength of every individual who would die for their WeyrLeaders, who would fight until the last spill of blood, echoes in a rising chorus of voices that scream in outrage. They shall not fall. They shall not falter or fail.

They are the World's Edge.

It is more than just Kaj. It is more than one sole stallion who calls out to the heathen who tried to harm their youth.

The glow of the lanterns above is where he stops, circling restlessly, remembering the fight with Maskan that had won him his title. The scar upon his foreleg reminds him that he has earned this, that he is no child. The air is cold, the wind is harsh. It slaps and stings just as it had on the arid plain where he had fought the fire twin, whips his locks into a hellish blaze of ivory upon his majestically arched neck. The land is flat, the flora cropped and harsh beneath his walkers. And there he stands, a restlessly pacing lion, sharp azure eyes watching for his prey.

Only one shall win today.

Tonka

Thundering black hooves stroke the hard ground as soft snowflakes lightly danced in the air. Wind stroked the steed's mane and tail, making it wave like a black and gold flag. The blackness that flooded the land covered Tonka, making him appear as if he was part of the darkness itself. Navy blue eyes lighten by only a few passing glowing trees. He had traveled to the Thistle Meadow today with an, rage filling inside of him. Usually other's had a reason to be mad, but not Tonka. This dark natured brute was just woke with an indescribable anger filling up inside of himself. That is why he had to come here so that he could not let the other Assassins see him like this. He could not take that risk that he would take out his madness on one of them. Little did he know, he was about to rid his rage on another.

He thought that he would be here alone, and he would be able run and kick and rear until he got his anger out. That was not the plan now. A thundering sound came crashing him from his thoughts. A sound that seemed to be challenging and threating him. Oh, there was no way in hell he was going to let a challenge slip from him. A smile came to his lips. He lifted his front half, his front hooves lifting from the ground. His horned skull pointed towards the forever black sky. His hooves crashed back down to the ground making the flat terrain rattle. He bolted off to go meet his competitor.

The lights of a lantern tree illuminated his view. His challenger was a dusty colored stallion. He was tall, but not as tall as the massive dark brown brute. He had wings, whereas Tonka had a blade. Sliver flecked dark blue orbs glanced at the bright icy orbs of the stallion's. Tonka slowed his pace down until he was at a complete stop in front of the golden boy. A cold stare got shot at stallion. He wore the scent of the World's Edge. That is why he had chosen challenge him. It was because of his attempt of stealing the filly, Azale.

Oh well... If this World's Edge stallion chose to challenge Tonka, it was his fault.

Now it was time for the fight to begin. The dark brute flung himself around so that his rump was faced to the competitor's front. He kicked as hard as he could, hoping to strike the sandy stallion in the neck. Swinging himself back to the face of the steed, the horned brute reared up, aiming for his hooves to land on the right wither and wing of the buckskin. If this move was correct, it would cause the right wing of the stallion to break. He landed back on the ground, his black hooves crashing against the hard flat surface. He backed up, then started to pick up a canter. He aimed his curved silver horn to penetrate and scrape the left side on his shoulder, traveling down his back and retching to his rump. A grim smile crossed his face. Rage was being relieved from his body by the second.

Tonka backed up and again, he was standing face to face with his competitor.

KAJ
“The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles. No matter what you say about it, there is always that which you can't.”

Arrogantly, he comes. A snarl twists the face of the smaller stallion, an impressive height paling beneath a greater one, reminding him of the all-encompassing presence of Maskan so long ago. Now, there is no boiling landscape with which to sweat and bleed upon. The brute is a fool, pausing to stare as he approaches, and Kaj remembers his own stillness when he'd won WingLeader from Maskan. Now, he does not remain motionless. He charges forward, powerful legs stretching across the iced landscape, careful to keep his balance. Tonka eventually does the same, smirking like battle was a game. The child will learn, battle is not something to mock. Kaj will wipe the cheshire grin from his mug, win or lose. Wings tuck close to his body, wary of the horn upon his opponent's head. They charge towards each other, he will not lose a wing to the fool's stickhead. How the massive Andalusian twists his body from a gallop to about-face into a buck is beyond Kaj, but the hind hooves aimed for his neck are far more pressing. Gritting his teeth, Azale's forlorn visage touched his mind and fire flashed in blue irises. Upon his next stride, a canter catching his legs, he waits for the perfect heartbeat right before impact when his forehooves are next off the ground and his weight upon his haunches. It's a tricky move, for he must time it perfectly, and it is certainly a close call as he shoves his body into a new direction to avoid the sharp, thick hooves. To the left he lurches, the bastard's left hind hoof just barely scraping the apex of his right shoulder. It stings solidly, an ache that makes his leg nearly spasm in phantom memories that had given his scar life. On Tonka's left now as the other descends, the child's hooves touch earth once more.

Again he spins to face Kaj, but hw moved to avoid his buck, and they might be more at ninety-degree angles now. High into the sky he reaches, but Kaj hasn't let his wings detach from his sides, especially with how they would unbalance him in his lunge. Sharply he curves to the right to face Tonka at a more head-on angle, eyes flashing as he sees the hooves shine beneath the sole lamp overhead. The wind smacks his face, but his wing- even as close to his belly as it could be- is still at risk. Kaj slips upon the ice in his turn, stumbling slightly as he presses forward as fast as he dares. A rear does not last long, and with the weight the other stallion has- equal to his own mass- he shan't be airborne long. Huffing, Kaj lowered his head as if he were a ram, though no horns grace his crown. They are in such close quarters, it is less than two strides from the younger stallion's form. A strong shoulder aims to ram into Tonka's right side of his belly while his legs are up. Hopefully it will knock him off balance, as well as move the most important bone of Kaj's wing away from those hooves. Head is lowered as far as possible to strengthen his shove as he lunges forward, also to keep it from Tonka's reach. A knock to the head could put him out for good. It's why he doesn't attack head-on when he chooses his angle; Tonka shouldn't be able to swivel easily while up in the air to change his projection. As they shove away, whether Kaj has hit him or not, he quickens his pace and squints into the wind, wishing it didn't disturb his hearing so greatly that he couldn't pinpoint the cur.

Said cur must have turned to his right to approach Kaj's left side, for when the warrior turned to view him he was aiming for his spine and rump with his curved dagger. Icy eyes narrowed; as Tonka nears Kaj gives a crowhop, striking out sharply with his hind legs while he runs, angling massive hooves to try and smack sharply into the brute's thick, intimidating chest. Like hell he's going to let ANY stallion back at his ass after Maskan! If it connects, Tonka's forward movement will be disrupted, so Kaj let the break in stride from his buck slow his gait enough to turn as sharp as he dares with the wind still stinging and the ice still messing up his movements. Under the glow of the singular lamptree he faces Tonka directly as he slides, trying to regain momentum that has reached nothingness as he lunges forward. Wings rise like an avenging angel, lifting him from the earth as he rears up, simultaneously lunging to aim his forehooves straight for the child-snatching bastard's horn and face.
