At her heels trotted Kaiden, looking unusually lonesome without the usual company of the watery creatures that normally lingered around the bonded pair. Even though the moon's light lent some semblance of normalcy to the battlefield, all still was not well. And that did not sit well with either mare or kitsune.
A soft yip distracted the young grulla, made her stop and look down at the pale grey kitsune quizzically. He swished his tails, padding over to leap onto a flat-topped rock and returned her gaze steadily, expectantly. "Here, then, huh?" Kimber cast her gaze around the small open space that stretched to either side of the path she'd been following. The underbrush was dense, difficult to pass through without making an enormous racket, save for where the path ran through the clearing, essentially forcing anyone who wanted to pass through to come along the path.
Satisfied with her bonded's choice, Kimber stepped off the path and stood to wait. The path lay between herself and Kaiden's stone, and the clearing opened up around them. There they waited, expectantly hopeful, but at the same time anxious.
