Thousand of twinkling diamonds lay suspended in a pool of rich ebony, blinking and sparkling like the eyes of a wolf before winking out, making one believe it may have died only to reaper a split second later. It was as if the very forces of nature were having a laugh, squinting their eyes in pleasure, before winking at the world bellow. As the stallion gazed at the sky the twinkling lights seemed to spin in fathomless depths of the night. The massive sky dwarfed the mortal world, leading one to wonder if there was life beyond what a mere mortal could see. Perhaps a breed of horse, bird, or even fish moved among the small points of light, laughing and playing as they watch the mortals bellow struggle on with their short little lives.

As one watched the stars seemed to star back, tonight thick clouds covered the moon allowing the stars to show off their beauty for the stallion as he lay alone atop a flat piece of granite, dropped there by an ancient glacier as it slowly carved out the dip in the hillock he was now resting within. A slight breeze, the one that helped keep the clouds over the moon at bay, toyed with the long grass. Appearing in the dim night like waves upon the sea as they rustles and rushed toward the tall male before charging at the tops of the small waves that lapped at the shore far bellow.

Light the ebb and flow of the waves, the breeze was soon upon him again, gently caressing him as it playful tugged at his main and tail. Inviting him to run with it, tempting him to try and out run it, surely with his long powerful legs sculpted with such finely honed muscles could carry him faster then the little breeze? Or perhaps he should use the wind’s own power against it, taking to the air and soaring high above to dance with the stars? A smile curled the loner’s lips ever so slightly, amused by such a thought. The wind was tireless, being the very thing that provided the beast the air needed to fuel his muscles and keep his heart pumping the invaluable scarlet liquid within his veins. The stallion often wondered how the wind blew, what caused the air to become filled with so much unrest that it soon flowed across the land, tearing and howling along the way like a living banshee.

Had you told him that such forces were caused by the turning of the earth he would have simply blinked at you with a blank expression on his face: surely such a thing wasn’t possible! But upon farther thought such an idea would begin to make sense. For what caused the rise and fall of the sun, stars, and moon? Surely the earth turning would explain such things, the origin of the wind that allowed him to fly was as mysterious of the shifting of day and night. Being one to launching into a garrulous speech about the flowers or perhaps an acorn, the male craved such deep intellectual, sometimes philosophical, conversations. He loved to find things that made him think and truly ponder. He had plenty to think about with the vanishing of the sun and moon. With the silver sphere's recent appearance and continual absence of the blazing ball his short pondering had turned into deep meditations.

He did not fancy himself a horse of intellect, nor would he call himself a philosopher. But occasionally he was gifted with one or two good ideas, allowing him to at least share a conversation with someone. Although perhaps short and confusing as another more scholarly horse would often use words and phrases he did not quite understand. Leaving the stallion to thoroughly think about each spoken word in an attempt to grasp its meaning. His most recent questioning however were not that of what another equine had said, but that of the strange occurrences in this land and how its gods effected this. As he watched the stars lost deep in thought the stallion’s guard began to slip as he became less and less aware of his surroundings.
