HELOVIA
HARD MODE

Some of you may be familiar with Pokemon Hard Mode aka The Nuzlocke Challenge, which has inspired Helovia Hard Mode.

Okay, let's make this run of Helovia more interesting...
The Rules
All instances of 'you' in the rules refers to your character.

0. Your stats given through the site determine your HP.

1. You roll for damage any time you are attacked/injured, whether in a fight or a normal post.

-- Rolls for normal posts you can do yourself, just no editing or deleting! It's suggested to make a new thread for this purpose within the Plot or Chat board to stay out of the way, reusing the thread (make new posts to roll) it any time you need a normal thread roll.

-- If you are attacked by another character that has stats, use their numbers for attack and damage in the roll.

-- If you are attacked by a character that does not have stats, or by something that is not a character, use the middle-ground number '5' for both attack and damage in the roll.

2. You gain back 1 HP every 12 hours from the time the damage was rolled.

-- If you are healed by a character that holds the healer rank or healer magic, your HP is restored.

-- If you are healed with an item or potion you gain +5 HP (cannot exceed normal HP amount).

-- If you are challenged, you may add +10 HP (cannot exceed normal HP amount).

3. If your HP is reduced to 15 you 'faint'.

-- You cannot make a new post for 24 hours.

-- Your HP will not begin regenerating for 48 hours.

4. If your HP is reduced to 0 you die.

100%, 82%, 64%, 46%, 28%, 10%, 0%

This is by all means a purely personal choice and is not a mandate of Helovia.

-- You can end Helovia Hard Mode at any time.

Any ideas or comments or you personal set of rules (lots of people have made variations to the original Pokemon Hard Mode rules!) please share!
You are welcome to enter this challenge yourself :3

Ideas for EXTREME Helovia Hard Mode

2.
-- If you are challenged you roll a 20 sided die to see how much HP is restored to you. A 20 means you have full HP, a 1 means no HP is added.

5. You are restricted with the amount of aide you can receive.

-- You can only have 1 amulet at a time.

-- You can only have 1 item at a time (companions do not count).

-- You can only have 1 item at a time (companions count).

-- You can only have 1 magic (passive counts).

-- You cannot have any magic, items, or use healing.

[lots of variations possible for this rule]

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Tamme - 10-16-2013

Oh. my. god. yes.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Tamme - 10-16-2013

I'm in.

Though I would add a rule that says that escaping is directly proportional to your speed/agility/endurance stat?
- So if you are unnecessarily attacked, your character can roll to get away.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Ampere - 10-16-2013

I figured escaping would be rolled the same as within a fight roll, as in the character's attack needs to beat your defense, otherwise no hit lands.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Tamme - 10-16-2013

Sounds fair to me :3
Though dodging and still being engaged in a battle is a little different than ignoring trying to attack yourself and hauling ass to get away from someone...

Do you thnk that's an important enough distinction to note?

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Ampere - 10-16-2013

Hmm, I still think the die as is would work, but I'm not sure, I don't quite see the distinction you're talking about. I think personally I'll play with it as is and perhaps adjust if it becomes a case where I'm never able to escape/dodge because then that would be unfun - and I do know the way the die work more attacks land than not in fights.

You could come up with your own rule in regards to that though?

:]

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Azarel - 10-17-2013

Omg yes.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Circe - 10-17-2013

Wait, so this would be implemented in regular threads, or just battle posts?

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Rayo - 10-17-2013

Um, yes??

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Ampere - 10-17-2013

It would be implemented in regular threads too.

Lately I've been struggling with how long to have Ampere be injured after she fights a giant RE monster, spars with someone, gets stabbed trying to steal a companion egg etc and I thought that having HP regenerate over a period of time was a system that would be kind of fun :D then that got me thinking about how else it would affect things which got me to pokemon/helovia hard mode.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Tamme - 10-17-2013

The more and more I think about it, the more I think that having a separate (flight) stat roll in order to escape damage and run like hell would be better.

In pokemon, you MUST fight the first character who pops up and challenges you on hardmode, but horses more often than not back down from fights (and the challenger ceases to challenge).

We should create this roll for normal posts, I think to better help those who get randomly attacked and would just haul ass out of there instead of actually fighting. Phi, for example, would probably just run away and not engage in battle. So her defense isn't geared toward maintaining this 1 on 1 attack/defense/damage dance.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Ampere - 10-17-2013

But the way the roll is set up now doesn't force anyone to fight? The roll is purely for damage, which the ability to dodge that is already factored in, hence the roll for your opponent's attack against your defense, determining if the attack hit or missed, and from then the damage roll.

For instance, say Ktulu wrote in a normal thread she was trying to strangle Ophelia, you would roll the dies as normal. If the roll + Ktulu's attack was greater than Ophelia's defense, then the magic worked and Ophelia would be strangled. She can still write that she's trying to get away and run, or you could even say she wasn't strangled and fell and hurt herself that way trying to get away (i.e. same as in battles your damage needs to be taken but you can determine why you took it) - at no point does that force Ophelia to fight back.

Assuming though Ktulu's attack + the roll was not enough to beat Ophelia's defense, then she takes no damage, as in normal fight threads, and can escape freely.

Maybe I'm just not understanding?

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Tamme - 10-17-2013

AAAAAHHHHH I get it. It's only if you attack back do you continue that. Yeah. Gotcha :3 I'm all good now. Ignore me.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Tamme - 10-17-2013

I'll be putting this up for Ulrik, Ophelia and Paladin today.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Ampere - 10-17-2013

yay :D

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Abraham - 10-17-2013

Is this becoming a need or is this going to be purely optional?

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Tamme - 10-17-2013

Purely optional :3 Seems exciting to me

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Abraham - 10-17-2013

I mean, it sounds pretty cool, but after reading all of the information literally at least ten times I still don't understand it.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Ophelia - 10-17-2013

Basically now instead of having HP only count in the battles, you have HP count in normal posts. Think of it like in a video game how your character has a certain amount of health. You can get randomly attacked by something in the environment like a mountain lion in skyrim, and that causes you to lose health in the ambient terrain. So you are constantly having to keep your character "alive" and "healthy".

If you do get injured, then your HP can only regenerate (ie you can only heal) so fast.

RE: || HELOVIA HARD MODE || - Lothíriel - 10-17-2013

I adore this 3894723423%!!

Always loved the idea of these things being implemented into a writing RP, and the tangibility and realism it brings!

I have a question: what would happen with immortal characters (i.e. Loth ;D) who only die if their body is destroyed beyond repair, when they get to 0HP on EXTREME MODE?
