Ribbons and Bows - Maude - 10-03-2016
Play the music low,
Mommy had woke her up early that morning, no later than the first golden break of light over the brim of the world, and told her the words she’d been waiting for since she’d been told there might be a party of some sort in a land called the Aurora Basin. Accompanying the exciting news that today was the day was a new gift, as well, which was now snugly fitted about the base of her small, milky river of a tail. Green as the ferns that grew in the undergrowth of the Edge, the silk binding was held in place by more shiny, white pearls.and sway to the rhythm of love; Everything about today’s upcoming adventure sounded amazing, from the pretty name of the place itself, to the promising allure of real songs, and real dances, not just invented ones. It was no wonder, then, that Arah and Tilney had been left laughing at the flamboyance of their child, who’d burst from the clearing as soon as she could, as if a fire had been lit beneath her. Charging like a mad woman to where her Auntie Aelfwine had promised to meet her on this very morning, Maude stops just long enough to snatch up a few pretty, white flowers (called camellias), and a particularly elegant, mossy twig. With her adornments gingerly held in her ginger lips, she skitters to a stop, and gently lays her bundle of blooms and stems atop the smooth, gray stone that was the location she’d been told to be. Looking up eagerly, her cheerful smile becomes a sudden frown when she realizes her Auntie wasn’t here yet. Pouting as she looks about the vacant, birdsong filled space, it isn’t long before boredom sets in, one of her cloven hooves aimlessly kicking at dried leaves. Maude, however, was not going to be lured away by her curiosity - not today, anyway. Getting her hair done was far too important! Play the music low,
"Auntie!" is a breathless exclamation accompanying with the thrumming of tiny hooves against the forest floor in an ecstatic prance, a staccato song that bursts to life no sooner than the dappled mare was free of the surrounding forest. A giggling rocket, she literally thuds into Aelfwine’s chest wildly, her own tiny head thrown up around the mare’s smooth, warm shoulder.and sway to the rhythm of love; "Not long, no," she smiles as they part, happily following her Auntie to the stone where her white flowers and twig waited with a high kneed prance, and a bobbing, lifted tail. Admiring the new blooms and accoutrements that Aelfwine had brought along, Maude lowers her muzzle and stares with amused disbelief at the daintiness of the tiny white petals of the baby’s breath. Looking back up at her father’s sister with a beaming smile, her citrine gaze sparkles with pleasure at the compliment given her rose-like flowers. "Your flowers is very beau’ful too," politely (and earnestly) remarks the ginger kissed cherub, but the poise she’d managed in that moment is quickly scattered when the mention of actually starting today’s wonderful adventure casually passes from her Aunt’s lips. Aimlessly dancing beneath her, her legs somehow manage to carry her about in a more suitable position for Aelfwine to work with the two inch tousle that was Maude’s mane. That it was already so long so early in her life was a good sign she was Arah’s daughter, who, as far as Maude was concerned, was the prettiest woman in all the world; that her hair was already promising to be a long, moonlit river like her dam’s made her feel as if she, too, were already as elegantly beautiful as the regal doe, especially right now. Her childish neck arches in the most lady-like way she can manage, an equally childish smile bursting across her face, despite her attempts to be mysterious as Arah could seem sometimes. "Yes!" blurts Maude, adding as a lately recalled nicety (as she had surely been taught), "Please!" @Aelfwine RE: Ribbons and Bows - Aelfwine - 10-08-2016

Play the music low,
The sensation of her Auntie’s tousling lips was surprisingly pleasant, and the girl unleashes a dreamy sigh. Occasionally, the make shift comb snags, but, as Aelfwine had assumed, Arah had already taught young Maude the importance of being pretty. While the filly certainly hadn’t figured out how to comb her own mane, her mother was happy to keep her growing tufts tangle-free and luxurious as cotton fluff could be. The ginger darling, of course, had also practiced plenty on her mother’s voluminous, shining locks, and, while she had at first tangled them up, she was now capable of untangling at least the very ends of Arah’s extensive hair. It got more and more difficult to brush the higher up such a grand tail one went, the girl had discovered while practicing, the ends of such long hair almost effortlessly twisting themselves together no sooner than you brushed the knots out.and sway to the rhythm of love; So, in that matter, Maude was glad she was still little, and her mane had not yet grown in. At the same time, however, she also wished it was, because she would be that much more likely to impress whatever Princes or young Lords awaited her at the Basin. Surely, her mother’s beauty had been a pivotal reason why her father had fallen in love, right? Sure, Arah was also gentle, tactful, and smart, but she was definitely the prettiest doe in the World’s Edge, and probably the rest of the world beyond it, and that had to count for something. A giggle slips from her lips as her Auntie proclaims that she’ll be simply marvelous: a grand collection of words to describe a Maude! She was certainly not elegant or beautiful like a true lady yet, but she was sure that she’d be a sparkling gem among the other fillies. Soon, she's humming softly while her aunt works, her mind wandering into imagined scenarios sure to play out in the mountains this evening. On gracefully dancing legs, she twirls and prances, the eyes of dozens watching her with sparkling awe, as the heavens begin to swirl and dance with vibrant, sparkly rainbows (as she imagined the Auroras to look from the descriptions she had been given). "Okay," somewhat drolly remarks the gradually-becoming-bored filly, when she's told her hair is almost finished, her daydreams having dwindled into less common and elaborate glimpses as the time passed; it's followed, however, by a much more brightly worded inquiry, "I'll do yours next?" Growing more anxious for it to be over with the more the excitement about having her hair done in the first place wears away, Maude takes to occasionally glancing over at the pile of flowers. It's the only motion she lets her boredom get away with, however, pressing her mind to invent unique ways she could use the remaining flowers and trinkets in her Auntie's hair. @Aelfwine |
