But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
She hadn't really been able to figure out what she wished to do yet. No. She was definitely religious, a believer in stories, a motherly features. Still, she hadn't been able to do much in the Falls following that path. The Storyteller had never really been around, and it seemed as though the children just ran rampant. So, for the time being, she decided it would be better to put forth her efforts in building the family. Perhaps by recruiting she would be able to decide just what path it was she wished to follow. Or, she might be able to meet others of the herd that could offer insight to this decision as well. She knew few upon the sands, so as she had taken off from the border she felt little of the unease that used to accompany her upon leaving Pompeii. The concern that something would happen to her family, to those that she watched and cared for. Though, for now, her only concern was for Einarr - the only one she had met who had accepted her so readily and made her feel as though she was truly a part of a family since stepping foot upon this soil. But, even that concern was minimal, for that giant of a stag could easily take care of himself. She didn't know many who would dare to take on one so huge without already having a death wish. So, she carefully made her way through the forest. Her wings were trapped up tightly against her hide so as to avoid slicing into the trees and Ardere weaving her own way through the trees ahead. Behind Laedere trailed a figure of fire, though. Harmless fire, but fire all the same, and a fire that wasn't being affected by this downpour. A stag, representing the gentleness, alertness, love, kindness, independence, strength and sensitivity that clung and wrapped around Laedere's soul. Aye, if she had understood companions perhaps she would have desired a stag to be connected to her soul, but the Earth God had gifted her Ardere, and regardless of the lack of understanding she would not change it. Still, it was Ardere who found the dark stag first. He was not huge - not like Einarr's towering frame. Yet, he was not tiny either. Perhaps small for a stag, but he was still taller than Laedere's frame. Aye, he did not dawn wings or a horn, which confused her just a little. Still, she flicked her forelock out of the way - water keeping it pressed to the side of her face. Ardere was in heaven, flipping around in the water that was falling from the sky while making awkward clicking noises which Laedere had begun to associate with joy. Still, the fire-stag lingered behind her, moving in closer to her frame and lighting up the area around her with orangey glows that radiated off of the trees. Uncertain as to the complete reason for this stag's shaking she assumed it was due to the cold chill that the rain was beginning to produce even against her own flesh. "Are ye' alright?" she inquires, flickering her audits forward and keeping her wings pressed tightly against her barrel. Meanwhile, Ardere floated forward (as if swimming through the rain) to inspect this stag before them. LOL. Sorry; she doesn't mean to scare him but I'm so prepared for it. |

Aye, had he just backed up into the tree? But for why? She was one of the least threatening animals she knew of - with her tiny frame and lack of flight. The stag, being a bit more perceptive of the situation, flickers a little before pressing his form up against Laedere. She does not flinch, merely turns to look at the fire stag before Ardere finally peels away from the stag, clicking in joy at her find. Still, the water cascades off of Laedere's coat, and Ardere still tries to find a way to splash the water around as if it were a game. He shudders, having turned to face her as she inquires if he is fine. Her eyes linger upon the strange contraption that hung against his face. Wasn't it dangerous? Wouldn't it get caught on something? He says that he's been better, which might be an understatement considering how he is jerking his head around to keep an eye on all of them. He inquires about the two creatures near him and Laedere offers a gentle smile. The stag stays near her hide, not burning anything but also not dissipating from the rain. "Thine beasts shan't harm ye. Ye hath mine solemn word." Laedere informed him, the delicacy in her voice from years of caring for scared children slipping in. Aye, he wasn't a child but the way he spoke and move… something had to be scaring him, and his wary eyes were still lingering upon the two creatures near her. "Mine name tis Laedere. Thee fish tis Ardere, and thee stag… Mineself tis not certain, but he hath not harmed anything." She tries to reassure the black stag before her with a gentle bob of her head. "Perhaps we hath better get moving; find shelter from thine storm? Ye look frigid." Maybe, if she could get him out of the cold he'd be able to calm just a little. Then, she could assist him in whatever he needed - be it a home, directions, or even a friendly face. If her speech confuses him just have him say he doesn't understand ;3 She dumbs things down if she has to :P |

Rain fucking sucked.
The fae was alone in her travels, lingering about the Threshold rather than returning home immediately. Her belly was swollen and her hooves ached with the travel that had taken her to the gateway initially. It was perhaps too long a journey for her with how far along she was, but Lakota was uncomfortable in the Falls - not because she cared about the invasion, but rather for the fact that her mate seemed to be slipping ever farther from her. So instead she lied through her teeth about duties and feeling useless (that one rang far too true in the hollows of her bones and quiet nightmares in her head) and she had set out to find new members for her herd.
Though autumn already had the land within its grasp, Lakota had hoped the weather would hold long enough for her to find shelter. Movement was impeded by her belly and slight, aching frame, and she could not maneuver quickly to find an adequate tree or coven to find shelter within. To make matters worse, Aodaun had returned home to reassure Ktulu (if she'd even noticed the Poisoner's prolonged absence) that Lakota would be following him back to the Falls soon enough. His absence was a hole in her heart and she missed his company already, but she had duties and obligations. Or at least that's what she told herself, without Aodaun there to shove the truth into her face. Sometimes Lakota wondered what she had done in her life to deserve him.
Voices crooned to her from the rain, and the tired mare huffed and turned towards them, drawing towards their placement sopping wet and miserable. One of them was a pudgy sort, a pale face that seemed further emphasized by some sort of fear he was feeling as he gazed upon a rather interestingly colored and decorated mare. It was she whom Lakota had heard, and she drew forth to huddle as an awkward third point to their newly formed triangle. At least she wasn't the most plain, she snorted to herself.
"Sorry to intrude, I was recruiting around here and I'm exhausted. Kid isn't even out of me yet and it's a handful," she joked awkwardly. Lakota didn't like to be friendly very often, but she couldn't be chased away if what the mare had said about shelter was any indication. Lakota needed their body heat not just for herself but for the foal inside of her as well. "I'm Lakota, nice to meet you. Mind if I tag along?" It was the best she could do, socially, but at least she was trying damn it.

He continues to eye her warily, sweat beading out on his skin beneath the layers of rain-created moisture. She speaks, her voice unlike anything he's ever heard before - her tone is kind, but the words are unique, queer, clipped and Shakespearean. "G...glad to hear it," he says, teeth still chattering from a combination of the cold and his fear. His sodden tail swishes limply, pathetically, behind him, and his warm brown eyes are filled with abject misery. What he wouldn't give for a snuggly stable and the attentions of a human to care for his every whim... |

He says he is glad to hear that neither of her creatures would attack, but it is with chattering teeth. Aye, she carefully watches the swishing of his tail and the matte look that rested in his eyes of some form of sadness. At least, she assumed it was sadness - happiness had always made eyes sparkle (or so she had seen in the past). She tries to explain her companions and he inquires as to how this stag is made of fire. There is a small laugh, for she had inquired about the same thing not too long ago. "Mineself believes tis a gift from thee God of Sun" she tries to explain before speaking of shelter. Aye, there wasn't too much around, but she had passed a thickly wooded nook and what appeared to be a cave on her way up here - perhaps it would be useful now. Before she could speak though, his name filtered in through her ears as well as the sound of foliage moving. Ardere flips - giving out a couple more clicks of joy (MORE FRIENDS?!) before the roaned mare speaks. She jokes about motherhood, offers her name, and asks if she could tag along. Badger seems to lighten up instantly before offering his name to the mare as well. A gentle smile is thrown in the direction of the pregnant mare. "Laedere, tis be Ardere, and thee fire-stag has no name," she says introducing this cackle of interesting things around her. "Mineself dost not mind. I hast seen a cavern amidst a thicket not too far from where we stand." She explained, Ardere already shooting off in that direction. "It shan't be affected much by thine rainstorm, then after ye can come back to a herd land to recuperate…" there is a pause, "That is, of course, should ye desire a herd…" Quietly, she began to turn back the way she had come, offering a gentle bob of her head for them to follow if they should wish. ooc goes hurr. |

Though Lakota was more than aware of the fact that others in Helovia were far kinder than she, she was still successfully startled by the enthusiasm and delight the plain-faced soul offered as she arrived. Lakota flushed to her bones at his exclamation, where once she would have snarked at his stating of the obvious - no, really? I totally didn't notice this giant monstrosity inside of my stomach, I thought it was just the grass!. But it was...kind. It was gleeful, delighted, and Lakota smiled shyly at the pale-faced black for his excitement. His congratulations were prompt and sincere, and it only made her smile grow ever warmer in contrast to the chilly rain that surrounded them all. "Thank you," she cooed, violet eyes like silk as they fell upon him. Her foal was her greatest achievement in her life, bloodied and brutal as it was. He had unknowingly spoken to the side of her that was growing into a protective, loving mother, and almost instantly garnered a few points of sympathy and friendship with it. "Do you like foals? I'm hoping it'll be born before the winter," she frowned softly, her worry coming off her in waves. She was hanging low already, and her birth date had already passed. Lonely as she was with her mate's absence, she couldn't help but strike up the conversation topic, the new and helpless mother in her blabbering for the sake of continuance.
And again, with the gentle nature of the two she had discovered! Laedere, as she was soon pronounced, proffered a gentle smile and kindly words that resonated clearly and softly simultaneously through the watery downpour. Though she spoke archaically, Lakota was versed enough to comprehend her, and as she took the room Badger kindly made for her she cast an unsure smile back in return. Not so nice, remember? But it filled her with warmth. Lakota was unbearably lonely with her mate abandoning her during her pregnancy, her best friend busy commanding the newly reformed herd as a leader. Their companionship, unassuming and gentle, was exactly what she had needed. Lakota found herself embarrassingly grateful for the rainshower that had led her to their sides.
"Thank you," was summarily offered once more, this time to the mare in their midst as she was invited to the cavern. Lakota followed her on sore, aching hooves, blinking out from a decorated face and wet-plastered forelock. She turned to glance back at Badger, encouraging him to come along and already striking up conversation once more. It was unlike her, but continued loneliness was nigh evolutionary when someone who was very private already was subjected to it. "Ah, yes, herds. I'm from the Hidden Falls, east of here. Laedere, are you from the Dragon's Throat? They are often winged," she clarified for Badger and also in explanation for her assumptions for Laedere. Though she was too dignified to call it waddling, that's exactly what she did as she followed after the beautifully colored mare, already nearly groaning in appreciation at the mere prospect of shelter and rest.

A God of Sun? "There's...a God of Sun?" What in the name of all things holy? The humans had often spoken of a God, and Badger himself knew of the sun that rose and fell on the horizon and brought the seasons with it, but to combine the two? Odder and odder. Again he reminds himself he must keep an open mind - everything here is different. He might be scared, he might want to tuck his tail and flee back to the comfort of a humanized world, but he knows he must come to accept his new life and his place in it. Horns, wings, fire-creatures, Gods of Suns...he must digest them all and try not to let his utter horror and confusion show. |

But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
Aye, there was a bit of banter back and forth between the two equines. And, truly, their lack of adornments confused the mare before her. She was so used to intricate patterns, designs, horns, and wings. She was used to them being covered in objects. Yet, both of them were rather… bare? Yes, she would call it bare for the moment. She didn't say anything about the lack of horns, lack of wings, or lack of items. A) because she didn't want to anger them, and B) because she wasn't quite sure if that was the way things worked around here. She spoke of the cavern nearby, offering it to both who had been a part of the conversation. Then, she moved off toward where it was located. "Tis but mine pleasure to be of assistance," she says in response, flicking her forelock out of her eyes and keeping her wings tight against her barrel. Lakota speaks of the herds, saying that she is from the Falls and asking if Laedere was from the Throat. Laedere stays quiet for most of the walk - concentrating on making sure that she took the right track and actually made it toward the cave. And, as Ardere stopped Laedere did as well. She shifted her weight, looking at the branches and leaves which were hiding most of the entrance. Ardere tried to pull some of them back, and with Laedere's good wing assistance was offered - opening up an entrance into the cave which was dry after the first few inches. "Aye, ye may enter headmost," she alerts them, offering a gentle smile. And, only once they have settled into the cave which was just large enough to fit all of them with Laedere still getting a few drops of water occasionally, did she begin to speak of the herds. "Aye, Lakota, mineself doth hail from thine Dragon's Throat. However, mineself used to herald thine Falls as mine dwelling." There is a pause before she turns back toward Badger, "Thine Falls tis under new hegemony that mineself twas not contented so mineself left to thine Throat. Aberrant kinds of hegemony seem to cloak thine herds here. Females seem to dominate monarch guises and fill virile guises as well. Yet, no one stag I have seen hath yet to try and lien multiples of effeminate nature." She shrugs, eyes flickering across the two visions. "Tis a comfortable life, with a steadfast conjunction to kinship. Tis hath made mineself starker…" She finishes with that, unsure of what else there was to say. There is a gentle pause as she lets out a soft breath, "If ye have specificity in thine inquiries mineself might be of more assistance…" Yes, that was how she would end it. Offer him a chance to ask about what he needed to know. @[Lakota] --- sorry I took so long Dx |

His attention flickers back to Laedere as she speaks, as she uses her wing and her pet fish to allow them entry into the warmth of the cavern. The gelding sighs with blessed relief as the rain finally ceases, his muscles twitching to rid himself of the excess droplets. Much better. |

But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
Laedere shuffled her weight - settling into the caves near her in order to rest up for the rest of the storm. Ardere refused to enter, staying outside in the rain. Ah, it was joy for her, but Laedere was fire and ash and she preferred to stay out of that liquid for as long as possible. She tried to explain how she felt living in the Throat. Then, she offers him a chance to ask any questions that he might have. There seems to be a moment of pause before the stag speaks. His question was actually shocking to the mare, who had expected questions of the weather, the inhabitants, and other things along those lines. Still, all that he asked was if he could join her on her way back to the Throat. There was a gentle smile that crossed her maw, delicately offering support for the stag as she tried her best to offer support for him. "Aye. We shan't leave with thine monsoon brewing. We hath time to rest, then ye can be mine companion for thine trek. Perhaps even get ye settled in, if that be what ye desires." She offers the idea delicately, carefully offering the idea of a home to Badger. She didn't want to push him, when he seemed to be so uncertain of everything around him. The last thing she wanted was to scare him off because of something she had said. Then, she turned toward Kota. "And ye are free to travel with us should ye wish for as far as ye's travels are in union with ours." omg sorry it's so short. I need to go to bed (2am ftw); but feel free to start up a thread for his joining in the Throat :D You can powerplay Laedere and Ardere a bit to get that ready so you aren't stuck! |
