Helovia Info
Helovia opened in February 2012! We are an active fantasy equine RPG
Where once the world narrowed into naught but gray dust and desolation, the gods called for life. Wielding the elements of fire and light, dark and wind, earth and water, spark and time, they have created Helovia. The realm is set within the mythical globe of Loorien, a planet rich with all variety of creatures and blessed with all manner of magic. Originally populated by nomadic, tribal characters, they've since grown into massive empires saturated with culture and history. Separated into four distinct segments of Helovia, called "The Regions," each band of horse strong enough and capable enough, took up the power and responsibility of leadership. Unicorns, old, wise and mysterious, took to the north, hidden in forests of mists and shadows and rarely making themselves known beyond their cliffs of the World's Edge. Equines, vast, organized and militaristic, split into two, one group went north to the Windtossed Foothills and the other group went south to the Dragon's Throat. Pegasus remained nomadic, making their homes in various parts of The Wilds in a migratory manner. For many generations, the land was peaceful and calm, but peace was never the way of the gods. With a clash of argument, war and bloodshed massacred Helovia, and in the aftermath, the realm was eerily quiet. Now, as newcomers sweep into this land, they are met with the lingering bitterness of the gods and the struggle to reclaim what was lost. Nothing remains safe or certain while sorcerers and soldiers alike brood and bide their time for revenge, honor and glory.

ORANGEMOON cools off the lands with a a viscious force. Colder than normal, a sign of things to come during Frostfall, Helovia is bathed in a rich tropical lushness - albiet a cold one. The coastlines of the Dragon's Throat are pelted constantly by tidal waves, and the desert climate is humid but chilly. Ice begins to form early in the Aurora Basin leaving the winding trails slick and dangerous. The mists of the World's Edge coat everything in a glistening crystalline shine which encourages mould to grow everywhere. The Spectral Marsh is the only area which remains fertile, blissfully temperature and lush.

WEAVER, Corporal of the Aurora Basin, is a relatively recent addition to Helovia and has taken it by storm. Branded with the seal of Death on her chest, intrigue and interest follow both her past and present. Though she is assuredly beautiful, her sometimes sharp personality reveals that there is more to this uni-peg hybrid than meets the eye. Proving herself able on the battlefield in the Basin’s warrior ranks, we can’t wait to see her test her mettle against the looming Kaos happenings! Congratulations!

The painted girl had been given a gift by the Sun God, an amulet to pair with the other two that she had found on her travels, and though it had sated her desire for his gifts for a moment, she had not forgotten her real desire in standing before him. She could not save Helovia on her own, that much she was aware of. Even the help of her loyal followers, the friendly horses of the Edge, Kahlua could not do all that she needed to do on her own. The task of bringing peace to all of Helovia was one that required the very hoof of a god, but she was not afraid.
So after some time, finding her way home and reassembling the herd, traveling to the Thershold and back again, the thoughts of the magic she so desperately desired started to creep back into her head. So once again she had set off across the land, leaving the herd in the very capable hooves of Kaj, who was probably by now wondering why his painted queen always seemed to be somewhere else. But the painted girl was whirlwind that could not be contained and her whims took her on many journeys. Today, it took her to the Veins of the Gods.
Stepping on the narrow, rocky path that led to the alters, Kahlua held her head high and took a deep breath. She was not afraid of the Gods, though perhaps she should have been. Instead, the girl revered them all, enjoying the way their differences seemed to complement one another, building an creating the land that was now known as Helovia. And, just as the girl imagined that all of Helovia would some day be united as one, she also imagined that the Gods were united with one another, not jealous creatures with moments of dissension.
As she reached the alters, the painted queen wasted no time in stepping up to one in particular- not Lady Moon, the patron of her land, but the Sun God, brilliant and flaming, and she bowed before it. “Please, my lord,” she offered, not sure how else to begin. “I need your help, I can't save Helovia on my own.” And so she remained bowed, leg out and head down, hoping that he would come to her though she had little to offer to him. But she had to try.

Audits twitched as the Lord of Fire and Sun heard a prayer pathetically flung up into the ether. Was it for one of the others? His infernal sister, perhaps? A plea just short of groveling and begging meant for the ears of the rock brother, or the electric one who was neither here, nor there, but always and everywhere?
A feeling like the the sound of fingers softly strumming a melodious, rich tune from the strings of a harp stirred in his breast when the Sun God discerned the prayer to be directed towards him. So few took the time to properly worship him any longer; it pleased him immensely to see that one of these pathetic mortals still had some sense. The stroke to his ego made him consider devoting attention to this particular mud-being...
And he immediately regretted doing so.
What was this mare doing praying to him? She worshiped his sister! And what was it they called her? Kahlua the Sunshower?
The insult was too much. In a meteoric descent from the night sky, the God of the Sun hurtled to the earth, his altar awash with mystical fire the moment he touched down.
"You." The word held unbridled disdain. Kahlua was not one of his. "Save Helovia?" he sneered, snorting a laugh. What made this vapid, vacuous moon-worshiper think that a mere mortal could save these lands when such rescue eluded himself and the rest of the gods - let alone someone as simple as she? The ageless hybrid was loathe to aid one who proffered no true devotion, only came with sad supplication when her the stream of her perceived needs had run dry.
"What is it you want, mortal?" he grunted, grudgingly curious as to what she thought would be helpful in aiding her apparent quest to save the world.
Whatever the queen had been expecting, a chaotic race from sky to earth that ended in a tumultuous fireball had not been it. She quickly raised herself from her bow, scooting backwards a few feet in some chaotic show of 'self control'. Wide eyed and suddenly wary, the queen's ears perked forward, set directly on the god as he spat out some shadow of a greeting. You. Even the simple child could not mistake the condescension in his voice, the thought that she may have offended him in some manner as concerning as anything else.
The fear in her heart was almost overwhelming for a moment, her body freezing before his as the flames gave her flashbacks of the monster that had crawled from Helovia's Heart, on which she had promptly bruised her entire body. Even worse were the many memories of her standing before gods and begging for their help only to be turned away. Only Lady Moon had seen greatness in her thus far, but she was persistent if nothing else. She would get what she wanted through flattery or smiles, through fool's debate or other means.
And, as fleeting as her emotions were, it was not hard for her to get lost in her ideas of grandeur. What did she want? Her voice betrayed every idealistic hope she had that this idea would work. “I want to be able to stop a horse from thinking racist thoughts. Just think of it my lord. If we didn't hate one another for our looks we could work together so well!” Her eyes danced with excitement her, hooves shifting, taking her closer to him then. The fire frightened her but she was like a moth drawn to the flame. She wanted his help, no needed his help and finally she was going to get it.
“Please,” she practically begged, eyes almost watering in anticipation. “I can do this,” she added, wondering if he was like Mauja in that he believed the task too big for her, too beyond her scope. But the painted queen did not worry about the magnitude of her desires. She had achieved her goals of power in the edge, a huge dream for a mare that had simply wandered into Helovia by accident. Now she could achieve this new goal and dream. Peace in Helovia. The idea was magical.

The GOD of the SUN
Burn the whole world down
The ageless hybrid could practically feel her fear for a moment, and in a slightly sadistic way, this pleased him. To be feared was akin to being loved, and it was being revered, so the God of the Sun gained pleasure from Kahlua's brief and fleeting terror. But, as all mortals were subject to the passing of time, so, too, did the Sunshower's fear slide by - replaced by an idealism and hope that made him pity her.
Why did mortals have such faith in themselves? They were pathetic, weak little creatures who barely eked out occasionally meaningful existences, always mired in pain and hardship punctuated by flashes of happiness and respite. The Sun God supposed that it was a testament to their stubborn wills that they continued to exist and reproduce, and find fulfillment in the brevity and harshness of their living. It was only this musing that saved Kahlua from being singed by his cynical side that scoffed at her naivete.
He looked down his nose at the painted mare, listening to her words with cruel amusement. "And if this were true, you would find something else to hate each other for - it is your nature to be petty," he rumbled with irritation, sighing at her begging. Kahlua truly believed she could accomplish this impossible task, and the pity again crept into his fiery heart. She would fail, if only because of the fallible and base nature of her mortal race. She would fail because of the inability of peaceful coexistence between those who were different. She would fail because the idea of power over another would always be too tempting for some.
But who was he to save her from this pain and disappointment that she wanted so desperately to gallop headlong into? The most thoroughly learned lessons were ones learned in pain. He had made his decision.
"Go and speak to four others in this land: two equines and two unicorns. Find one of each that is racist, and one of each that is not. Discover why they are the way they are, and why they believe they are right. If you still think it is possible to rid this place of conflict afterwards, return to my shrine and I will gift you what you beg for," the God of the Sun dictated, turning away from Kahlua then. He paused, and inclined his head in her direction once more. "I would step back."
A column of flame roared to life around him and seemingly consumed the fire god in an instant, leaving nothing but scorched earth where he once stood. He would see if this would not dissuade the foolish mare from her foolish quest, but fools were just that, and he expected her return to his shrine with certainty.
Your Quest: Kahlua is to speak to two racist characters (one equine and unicorn), and two non-racist characters (one equine and unicorn) to discover their reasons and motivations for being how they are.
Even the queen, the joyous child queen, could not help but put her ears down for a fraction of a second at the Sun Lord's insistence that the world could not live in peace for they would find something to bicker and argue about, something to fight amongst themselves and create war where there could be happiness. But Kahlua quickly thought better of her stupidity and raised her ears again, but still failing miserably at forcing a smile back onto her face. Facades had never been her strong point.
Still, it seemed that she had done something right. The Sun Lord offered her a quest and she listened intently to each word that came from his lips. Already the queen's daft mind was whirling with too many emotions to categorize. Immediately she felt fear- facing those who were racist against her would certainly prove a daunting task. Still, a range of other emotions from elation to excitement to determination were present and in the end they beat down the fear, forcing it to submit to their will, leaving the girl ready and willing. “I will,” she said decided just before stepping back, per his orders, and once again finding herself gasping in surprise at the ocean of fire that exploded before her.
With his ultimate disappearance, the queen took a moment to inspect the ground where he had once stood, but as it was obvious that he had left for good, Kahlua finally let a smile grace her lips. Before leaving, she did not forget to pay her respects to Lady Moon and her shrine, bowing before the structure and offering a few words of praise and thanks that the Goddess had seen fit to continue blessing the Edge with prosperity.
