Ulrik the Engineer

Grandchildren? Ulrik's expression remained stony, but his heart did a leap in his chest. He had a bloodline now. The purity in his veins would be passed on, and he was now a contributor in the beautiful genetic pool of life. The thought of immortality had never appealed to him, as he welcomed death as a natural part of living. However, this was how he would be immortal, this little maggot... A small upturn of one side of his lips gave away his pleasure, and he glanced up from the bony body to Illynx's golden, snake eyes.

"Yes," he rumbled. The boy did look like him too, in a away. Except any bronze that was on his figure, dulled on his coat, was burnished and bright on his. Ulrik watched him eat, thinking that maybe he wanted to be involved, when he could. The Plague and the Basin came first, serving the herd in the ways he knew how with the tools he possessed. Maybe... maybe the boy would be interested?

Ulrik watched as another approached, and he stood quietly in the shadows still, unmoving. The dark child with white eyes spoke strange words, words he didn't give much of a damn about until they were turned toward him. The stallion raised himself to full height, weight shifted evenly onto all four of his massive, deer-like hooves as his ears tilted backward. A mad glint flashed in his bronze eyes and the stallion took a single, dangerous step forward, daring the brat to open her mouth again.

Briefly, he met Illynx's gaze, seeing apology there before she spoke to the girl. Apparently they knew each other, but that did not excuse her words. "Insolence is not tolerated..." he rumbled, the depth of his voice rattling against the cave acoustics like thunder. Still, he waited, listening. Illynx had found this brat and raised it, so she apparently felt entitled. Wrong. He had nothing to say to the filly, as he had nothing to prove.
