There had been fighting slaves in Th'orqui. The little buckskin had seen them a handful of times, though always from a distance. The brutality of the sport had terrified her, particularly as she had been threatened in her youth with being sold to the fighting trainers for use as bait. The victor left the ring bloodied and bruised, often to be half-heartedly healed in preparation for their next fight. Not many of these slaves lived past their fourth year; they trained until the age of two, and only the very talented ones survived fight after fight. Eventually, they all succumbed to some broken bone or unnoticed internal bleeding, and their owners used their prior winnings to purchase a new fighter. The Merchant class particularly enjoyed the gladiator-style tournaments, so unlike the royal tourneys held by the ruling class and attended by the Nobles. 'The Games,' as they were referred to amongst Commoners, were held in the street, or in specialized fighting pits designed to keep the viewers safe from the blood-thirsty slaves. The Nobles and the Royal Family advised against attending them, but somehow the Games made the Merchants feel as though they were more important. Of course, they were the highest class likely to be in attendance, so they were probably treated as royalty - whereas the higher classes treated them with distaste. The little slave girl had only seen the fights at a distance, and even from far away she could see the bloodstains on the victor's hide. She had no desire to partake in such events - in fact, the thought had never even crossed her mind. At the mention of a job, she brightens noticeably: her ears prick forward and her cranium lifts, though she still does not dare to look him in the eyes. "This one is prepared to serve the good Master," she intones warmly, listening carefully for her instructions. Instead, she receives another question, which she is hesitant to answer for fear of angering him. "This one has yet to visit the Dragon's Throat, Sir, but this one will find it with haste."
