He had to admit that it was comfortable to have a place to return to, even if it wasn't his home. For all that the desert isle was different from his usual woodland refuges, the shaded Oasis with its lush grass and clean water provided a sensation of warm welcoming that was nothing short of luxurious for someone so used to the rough life on the road. The simple fact that he didn't have to keep an eye open even while sleeping felt like a blessing, and between having a job to do and getting to stay close to Tandavi and Amaris, the grullo felt quite at ease in the southernmost herd. It felt good to be a guest, to care only for himself and his own work and not having to think about things like foreign relations, border patrols and the like. He knew that the herd had grown smaller, considerably weaker than it had been before the plague when Dragon's Throat had been the strongest and closest ally of the World's Edge and the Qian, but for once it wasn't his job to change this.

It was irresponsible, of course, but why should a vagrant lone wolf like himself care? No one had asked for his help, his opinion didn't mean much and unless asked to, Lace had decided to keep his nose to himself and mind his own business. Feeling rebellious and blissful he roamed the desert with the dragon by his side, admiring the arid grandeur of the landscape while relishing the cooler weather that brought such reprieve from the usual heat. The winter coat had begun to grow out, making him shed in tufts that made the usually sleek appearance seem ragged and puffy; it was only as it should be though, nothing a minor annoyance in a time of uncommon peace and tranquility.

Sweeping the horizon with lazy curiosity, he eventually notice a shadow on the sky that looked too big to be a bird. Feeling mildly intrigued Lace watched as it grew larger, turning from a speck to a misshaped cloud into something that could only be a pegasus, a big, heavy horse dyed in black and brown. He couldn't remember seeing this particular individual before and began to draw closer, in no way fast or with any great purpose; he would hang back and let someone from the herd come greet this person, whether friend or foe. Maybe then he would join in, exchange names and courtesies - he wouldn't mind making new acquaintances today.
