wildfire

then we should all burn together

In his antlers Mara's body wriggled, pulling back and forth on his tines to try and get his attention. Gaucho's dark ears flickered as his head gradually rose from inspecting the sands to try and discern what it was the snake had in mind. Softly ahead he heard footfalls upon the sand, a sound that his ears were well used to from his years in the Throat.

Years. The dun could scarcely believe it had been so long, and yet to think of having been anywhere else seemed absurd. The many seasons ago that Levi had found him in the Threshold seemed like another lifetime. It had happened to him and yet ... he had come so far. He had learned the language, understood the customs (at least most of them), and had forged a new family. Now he led the family that once took him in. Seeing Cera reminded him of the gulf between who he was when the Throat took him in, and who he was now. It reminded him of why he was in this beach in the first place, why he would willingly give up his senses and dull himself to the world; to protect and serve those who had put their faith in him. And for the ones who hadn't, for the ones who sneered and doubted behind his back ... well, this was for them too.

As Cera approached, the Wildfire watched his lips to see if he was speaking. The prince's lips didn't move, which wasn't surprising. Cera knew of his quest and knew what it entailed. Further, he wasn't one to waste words on the dun anyhow. Still ... "CAN'T HEAR WORDS" Gaucho practically yelled. Without the sound of his own words resonating in his ears he had a hard time knowing just how loudly he was actually speaking.

He returned Cera's wingbrush with one of his own, casting brilliant light upon the golden one's coat with the flames that licked Gaucho's dark feathers. As he regarded Cera suddenly many questions occurred to him. Perhaps it was the inability to hear the answers that caused his brain to formulate so many queries. Things like, Did Cera know or suspect anyone as the murderer? or Did you know I went to see Midas? or What is Amani to you? Snorting, Gaucho pushed these thoughts from his mind. He would remember them, or Mara would (if she still had access to this thoughts during this time, that is), and ask them later. For now, the silence spurred Gaucho to action. He needed to begin this.

"NEED TO FIND THE OIL." He yelled once again, indicating towards the two buckets that were strewn by his hooves; one of Cera's making, the other Buce's. Gaucho knew that oil and water did not mix, which led him to believe that he would not find any oil along the shore. Perhaps it was hidden somewhere? In the caves that speckled the coast? Or did they have to dig?
