GAUCHO
& if we should die tonight then we should all die together
Sssssssssssssstranger Mara hissed lovingly into Gaucho's mind as the moon danced off of Rasta's pale golden coat, heralding her arrival. At once Gaucho's blocky head turned in the direction which Mara indicated, yet saw nothing. He narrowed his eyes, as if trying harder would somehow break his quest and make the new arrival appear, but of course it did not.

Know herrrr Mara continued as Rasta moved gracefully even without vision. Amused, Mara silently wondered if she could manage to teach Gaucho the same, although decided that he was likely too stubborn to learn. Especially from Rasta. Rasssssta. They knew Rasta. Gaucho had nearly run her out of the Throat on what was perhaps her visit steps there, during the birth of his daughter. If Onni hadn't been there he well might have. A twitch of pain lingered in his heart at the thought of yet another who had gone missing. Onni. Snorting, he recalled the images of the blind mare, the one who had spoken out against both he and Midas' decision to place Gaucho as lead of the herd. She hadn't known him then but was willing to cast judgement on him. Was she about to do the same now.

Her voice was softer than he might have expected, having only really heard her yelling voice. "Rasta." He responded more or less evenly, with a hint of warmth. Diplomacy it seemed was starting to grow on him. Gods knew he had had enough practice lately. "Still blind?" He asked conversationally, ironically looking about 2 feet to the left of where she actually stood.

Part of him wondered why she had left - hadn't she and Soh been close? What was it that drove her away? Youuuuuuuuuuuu Mara hissed, presuming that his rise to power was likely a move in a direction that she didn't see fit. Viewing his herd as a family, Gaucho couldn't imagine just up and leaving when times got tough. But then not everyone sees herd life that way. And perhaps she had her own reasons as well. It didn't matter now. That had been seasons ago.
