Why? Why did they all think so poorly of him? Was communication really so much of a hindrance that everyone would sooner label him a monster than actually try to hold a conversation with him? Rasta had labeled him mostly incompetent based off of one meeting (albiet a poor one). And somehow her opinion of him was dissuaded by Midas' approval and support of him or Sohalia's. His track record with the pale mare wasn't spotless - far, far from it - but was this really what she thought of him?
"Gaucho always care." He began, shakily, sounding unprepared for what he was about to say. Things had gotten a lot realer than he was used to. "Gaucho not ... not from here. Not know customs. Language still hard. Getting better, but it take time. So Gaucho show caring and love by protecting and fighting. That only way Gaucho know how. Maybe I not stop to talk to every one, but I keep skies and borders safe. Give every safe place to live so that there time later to talk." Could she even understand what it was to come from a land polluted by war? Perhaps not. And although he thought Rasta was more or less useless as far as her contributions to the Throat went, it certainly didn't mean that he didn't care. He thought of the Throat as a family and cared about each of their well-beings individually and evenly.
Exhaling the dun grit his teeth. It was all starting to pile up.
