Meg was not a patient soul. And now when she had news to deliver it was even worse. She had to tell her Kahl whet she had learned, they had to send other warrior to find Sohalia before she disappeared again. It was a relief that Gaucho came quickly, but she had never expected anything less. When she saw his fiery form broke the horizon, she lifted her face to the sun. It was a quick prayer of thanks for the magic she’d been granted; it was turning out to be terribly useful.

She nodded stiffly when he landed and was prepared to launch into her story, as impatient to tell as he was to hear, but her beat her to it, encouraging her to move. He was right, of course he was right, even in the warm sunshine she could feel herself staring to stiffen. There was part of her that wanted to be childish and whiney as she moved to take the first step to the oasis and her shoulder gave a swift twinge, but just as she obeyed orders she would not complain about them.

Walk it off!

The warrior grimaced, but pushed through and opened her mouth as she continued into the second step. “Sohalia is safe.” She started, and the phrase was mostly true, but she was mainly concerned with alleviating the worst of the stallion’s possible worries with the first swing. “I went to the Falls first, and found Africa. Sohalia turned up near the Falls a little over a week ago, almost two now, injured and trying to make her way back to the Throat. Africa healed her,” that phrase came out quick anticipating reaction from the lead “and apparently her and the other mare stayed with her a few days.”

She walked slowly, but her words came out steadily, businesslike, soldier-like. “She wouldn’t tell me what had happened, that Rasta, she wouldn’t say how the Sultana had gotten there. When I asked why a message hadn’t been sent, the bitch threatened me for being rude, did something weird to the plants.” Something of the anger laced her voice at that, the indignation clear. “I came home to get you as soon as I could. Gaucho, they sent her off alone, no guards or escorts, nothing. The bitchy one said she’d left a few days before I got there. She must have been traveling on foot, I looked for her on my way back but I couldn’t catch glimpse through all those damn trees.”
