The Goddess might have interrupted Ampere's little soliloquy. At any instant, her silvery words and judging glare could have pierced through to the heart of Ampere's doubt and confusion. It would have been all the Mother of Companion's needed, to know that her fate had been sealed. The Goddess' laugh, conniving and certain, would have told the blue all she needed to know about what was lurking suddenly in her soul - what tethers had been tied thanks to her naive and ignorant altruism.

But some lessons were better left raw and whole. The Goddess felt no need to rub the rising urgency and demise into Ampere's face. So instead, her svelte form seemed to melt into the background - allowing Ampere and her new companion, to their time.

It didn't take long to see the noose begin to form around Ampere's dark blue-blazed shoulders. She might have thought that it was once limp, that there might have been a chance to slip the surely bonds that would tether her life to the small avian before her, but she was wrong. She was already hung.

"Well now." The Goddess purred, sounding concerned for the tiny hatchling. With a wave of her wing, food appeared near the chick. The Goddess raised a condescending brow towards the Mother, as if this magical service was hers to provide.

"It appears you've failed-" Her words hung softly, as if perhaps Ampere's failure was only minor, inconsequential. In reality, it was anything but - even if it was inevitable. Would - could - Ampere turn her own tirade of beliefs upon herself? We all find it so difficult to see in ourselves the flaws we so boldly and casually ascribe and condemn in others. Yet we find ways to justify our own behaviours. Perhaps it is our ability to perceive our own evidence and justifications as somehow more rational. Perhaps we are just good at deception. Would Ampere see it that way?

Would her views change? Would she?

"Just like everyone else." The Goddess' eyes were daggers, plunging effortlessly into the blue.
