Seeing her, it was like an epiphany. All he could do was smile, tears prickling to the surface threatening to fall. He refused to cry though – he already looked weak and didn’t need to look worse. But her tears weren’t helping, they made him feel terrible. For the first time in his life, he felt like the monster. He had caused pain instead of enduring it, and it killed her inside. He roughly tugged her back to her rightful spot on his chest, curling his head to try and keep her there for at least another second.

As she sobbed into his chest, there were so many things he wanted to say. For once he wanted to scream out in his voice his apologies. Grovel at her feet and beg for the forgiveness he didn’t deserve. It was amazing what she could do to him, if she asked him to jump, he’d find out how high. Hell he’d walk the earth for her if she asked.

The desolation that had built up in his system while he was away seemed to collapse. Around it was his heart, broken, beating, throbbing and trying to survive. For so long it had been trapped away, and now that she was here again, it was exposed just waiting for the deathly shot. There was no way they could go back to what they had been before, he’d ruined her trust.

However, she never pulled away, in fact, she seemed to curl closer to him. Cerin let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding, relaxing into her embrace. There were subtle changes in her demeanor, and once again he was worried she would suddenly recoil and realize how stupid she was for giving him time, friendship, love?

Yet, all she did was say he had grown. He chuckled silently, his body slightly moving from the quiet action. Gently he lowered his muzzle to tug gently at the base of her mane, sighing in comfort. If she truly was forgiving him, he had been the luckiest guy to ever live. Gently he paused, trying to probe at her mind to give her a vision.

Without waiting another moment, the vision was uncontrollable. It released from him without much effort. It was the day they had been in the field together. How she had snuggled against him, listened, and provided a friendship he thought was impossible. In his memory though, she was literally glowing. There was an aura of pure happiness radiating off of her, and he was so desperately trying to hide the nervousness that emanated off of his memory. Yet, it would not be suppressed.

This is what he wanted. And it broke him to remember. He had shattered that for them. Gently pulling his magic back he lowered his muzzle in sorrow and gently nudged her neck in apology. There was no doubt she had moved on, both with friends and love. For some reason, that thought just hurt. Someone else got the chance he ruined.
