It might not have been Isopia's intention, but the suggestion that she ask her parents still hurt. There was of course no way for the tall mare to know about Erthë's family situation, and she herself ought to be used to it by now... but she wasn't, and it still stung, and she was rapidly losing whatever spark that made her push for these answers.

Deflating Erthë shook her head, not recognizing the word Isopia used (it was not one she had ever heard, as not even her own father knew what Vlasi truly was and probably would not recognize it for what it was) and shrugged.

"I can't" she reluctantly admitted. "Mother is dead, and Father... I haven't seen him for months."

Moving her eyes away from the demi-goddess and her dragon, Erthë stared into the gloom, lost for some time in her own thoughts. When her final redundant question was answered (was that a hint of irritation in the mare's voice, or was it just her own imagination?) the girl just nodded, recognizing the answer now that it was repeated.

"Right, you did say that. Sorry, wasn't paying attention..."

Something cold and heavy had slowly formed in her stomach, like doubt and defeat and maybe a touch of sulky denial. So what if she didn't know anything about her own parents, so what if that meant she did not know anything about herself either. As long as she hadn't failed to bond to a dragon she would be perfectly able to keep hoping. Who knew, maybe she was one of those tribrids or whatever they were called!

She would know when she got her hooves on an egg...

... not that there was anything easy about finding those. Erthë heaved a sigh, sounding as if the weight of the whole world was on her shoulders.
