The
Too-pale eyes widened as they rolled down to look at the offensive, small grime—a dark beige against the pure white of her sock. White-tipped ear tilted back as she shook her leg viciously, sending the wet sand flying far, far away from her skin.
A snort of consternation—rather than relief—heralded her return to the Throat. She was home—but home wasn’t this place. Home was brother. Rak.
Far above, an eerie (and pained) harpy keen sounded; a sharp pain of annoyed hurt stabbed through the strange grey mare’s chest as Esi looked to the skies as her bonded: Sachi. ’Sachi home, too,’ she quietly thought to her companion.
Again, her mottled hide twitched as the tide tickled her back hooves; the salty waves churned with sand and other filth. A concerned low pushed out of her nostrils—she wasn’t yet ready to leave the hard sand for the soft, swallowing, sucking, deep dunes.
In response, a spattering of water came down from the heavens before her—the intermittent trail of water that had bloomed in Sachi’s wake recently. The strange grey mare smiled slightly—but it was enough to lighten the worried and fearful lines around her eyes…it nearly made her white-marked face pretty.
But it wasn’t enough to tempt the mare into the sands, yet. So she waited at the cusp of the sea, harpy-Sachi settling onto her withers and seamlessly shifting into her lemur body. Small, dextrous black hands combed through the mottled strands of Esi’s mane there; while two sets of pale, pale eyes stared out at the Throat.
And they waited.
