HARDSHIP OFTEN PREPARES AN ORDINARY PERSON FOR AN EXTRAORDINARY DESTINY
The creatures speak again, out answers were not good enough. I snort with pure frustration. The girl beside me, the one I think is my little sister had spoken. Mists and trees... What land holds that? Surely not the Falls as it's no longer a herdland... Maybe, the Edge? Arwen stands and returns to my side. She's looking at me curiously.
As the others speak, I question my choice of joining the Basin. Why had I joined the herd the farthest to the north? I have no family ties there. I have no reason to stay... If this little girl at my side is who I think she is, then my family by description lives in the Edge. My ties, are there and not the Basin. "I know for myself, I lost my home and had to pick a new one. I had to start a new adventure. Nothing holds me to my northern home. In fact, something now pulls me away from it." I pause. What do I really want to stay? "Our homes are special, because we make them that way. Home is what you make it, nothing more." I glance to Arwen, and then to the filly at my side.
If home is what we make it, but family is what draws us from place to place.... Maybe I didn't belong in the Basin. Maybe, just maybe I belong.... In the mists.
