The sun had returned and, with it, hope was restored in the pale mares heart. So why was it, then, that she still felt so alone?

Her herd was broken and vulnerable, yet Apollo was a strong and wise leader and alongside him she was trying her best to aid in the protection of the lands. Patrolling the borders, finding newcomers and inviting them into the herd. training and keeping her body fit and strong - though after the mistakes recently fighting was nothing she was eager to do. She even had friends now, as odd as it felt to call them that, and everything seemed like it was staring to slowly look up, much like the sun which gleamed down upon her weary and tarnished body.

But something was troubling her. That dream, that awful terrible dream, had lingered in her mind long after it had ended. Every night saw saw that face - the gaping sockets of eyeless orbs under a thick lake of ice, blood oozing from its face and slowly consuming it, pulling it under. That face had been her mothers, she was certain of it. Yet no matter how hard she tried to picture her mothers smiling, laughing face, she could not. All she saw that that monster.

She had to get it out of her mind. She let her thoughts wander away from that image, yet on occasion it would flick back as clear as day.

It was troubling, indeed.

Often times her legs would carry her afar whilst her mind was in the clouds, and today was one of those days. She had patrolled the borders of the Foothills only to be washed away by a sea of thoughts and memories in an attempt to blur the eye-less figure that plagued her and, upon turning South, had made her way slowly toward the sea. Something about the crisp, cold air and the scent of salt and sea foam attracted her, distracting her. Before too long, sands crunched under foot - though she made a point to stay far away from the sea - and she was trying her best to enjoy the sunlight that warmed her body. The heat brought pain, burning the still raw wounds on her stomach and legs, yet she tried her best to ignore the sharp stung of burnt flesh.

She was not sure how to banish the demon that haunted her, though she hoped that, like the tides that pushed and pulled along the shore line, it would be washed away in a few moons time. What troubled her more than the skeletal beast was that fact she no longer could picture her mothers face. The nightmare would fade, but it was unlikely she could easily return the once vivid memory of her mother.

She sighed softly. It was a new day and she could not allow herself to be bogged down. She still had hope.

Sort of.
