The last time she’d been here her legs had been short and stubby, her body hidden in the shadow of her mother whom she had dutifully followed, never questioning their direction. Her decisions were earth shakers in Ghost’s world and when she had left her to travel by herself, the little filly had felt lost for a long time. Lost, confused, Ghost had spent a lot of her childhood roaming the realms just outside Helovia, eyes growing wide when she had spotted the dark veil that covered the world, her huntress mind told her not to be afraid, but there was something about the night and the darkness that made her heart quiver in her chest. So she had remained in hiding, only moving when necessary and only returning to her birth land when the sun had finally risen. By now she was taller, much taller. Her legs were long and lithe, her mane had grown long in ebony wavy folds, wings had stretched far into the air and were tipped in the most vibrant of red feathers. The appendages were her downfall, the reason she couldn’t go home, the reason she had been outcast. Crowned upon her head was a spiraled curved horn, dusted in the blackest of coal, her one way ticket into the land of unicorns. If it wasn’t for her ability to navigate the sky. A curse from her late father.

It was upon her cursed limbs that she flew, away from her mother it was the only chance she had to learn, away from Helovia the sky had become her friend. The wind teased and tickled her face, the air of home was fresh and familiar, the pathways and scents were known to her heart. Yet, for all these bundled up emotions her expression was blank, her gaze never wavered or faltered. She had been taught not to fear or love, sadness was not something the growing girl was familiar with and pain was an illusion. The only things she felt were anger, at least until now. Great wings took her over a sandy beach, the sunshine bleach it in vibrant summery colours, embracing the sea with warm rays making it glitter in the light. The beauty of it struck her, eyes widening as something touched her soul she had never quite felt before, the emotion wormed it’s way in and filled her body with a new kind of warmth. Wonder, admiration, a sense of elation. It was strangely uplifting and for a few moments she hovered there, wondering why the image made her feel so… Weird.

The mare may have stayed there for a little longer discovering her new found admiration for the sea if it wasn’t for the flicker of movement that caught her haunted eyes. Slowly she angled towards the stranger, her heart skipping as the outline upon the ground looked very much like her mother, but the closer she drifted the more differences she saw. The red markings and the bangle catching her attention before her gaze drifted up the ivory horn was was this mare’s centrepiece. The dappled belle was older, her body thicker with interesting tassels upon her feet and lastly Ghost noticed eyes of teal as she set hooves down on the sandy surface now far away from the shoreline.

Ghost's inky was gaze unreadable as she went to stand before the greying femme, eyes shifting to marks upon the strangers bodice, marks she had never seen before. Then she sent her mind running back to her time as a foal, remembering the words her mother had taught her to greet another. Soft, velveteen lips parted and a quiet voice drifted into the air, her tones lackluster, almost like she was reading it from a page. "Hello" was all she said, it had been many months since Ghost had last spoken to another.

GHOST.

Work your fingers to the bone
Building castles out of snow
I'm a nomad walking on
Humming to the same old song

Let the heat of the sun
Reignite your memory
Because if we just turn and run
Let them fire the gun
