i just want your strawberry kisses

Bitterness is unattractive She scowled, turning her head away from him, almost wishing him to leave despite her invitation. She tried to be civil, hell she tried to be somewhat nice, in her bias opinion, yet here he was being a jerk. A huge stupid jerkface. He was no knight. He was a fraud; a pawn. A queen had no need for pawns, nor should she waste her time bothering with him.

He sat, though she sensed reluctance in him, as he sat a fair distance from her. She did not mind. In fact, it suited her just fine. She didn't need him to like her, just to accept her. Though she hated the stallion, something in her gut did not allow her to leave so soon. Something pulled at her gut and yearned for him to simply smile at her, or to not retort with sarcasm or bitterness. Maybe she was simply so used to being liked that when she finally came across a soul who did not take kindly to her, it played on her mind. Maybe she actually liked the guy and that was why it bothered her. Either way, she sat like a sulking child, bottom lip stuck out and head turned away, ears occasionally flicking in his direction as if expecting him to talk to her.

It was hard to enjoy the warmth of the sun beating down upon her chocolate-cinnamon pelt when the mood between the two was so awkward and fragile. The silence lingered heavily around the pair, diminishing the beauty of the day. Her pelt began to dry quickly and the last few tendrils of sodden hair fell from their perch, flopping down over golden eyes. She sat for what felt like a long while, each second feeling minutes long as she repeatedly opened her mouth to speak, changed her mind, and stared blankly at a few strands of grass.

At last, she sighed. There were no words to convince him, and no words she wanted to share with him. She was a worthless princess, to him, and he was an arrogant arsehole to her. Why did they bother trying to be civil? Why bother sitting here and hoping to mend the nonexistent friendship? They had never been anything but two souls who shared a mutual dislike for the other, and they would never be anything more than that. Quietly, she got to her feet, glancing behind her for a moment, yet she said nothing as she turned and walked away.

She had made the decision to give up and leave. So why the hell did it bother her so damned much?

"Talk."
