Day was fading into dusk. All that could be heard in the forest around was the sound of a mare’s footsteps. Her deep green eyes gazed about the strange surroundings. It was known full well that her hooves treaded upon foreign soil. What loomed within the coming darkness could be anything. A snort escaped from her nostrils. Even from a distance, the mare knew of her rather poor condition. Her pelt caked with dirt, mud, and a few splotches of blood. At a brief glance the blood would perhaps blend in with the dirt.

Memories flashed through her mind. The sights consumed her thoughts and for a brief moment her very being. The sounds of screams of the dying, crackling of flame, and then it all faded to black as she shut out the imagery. It was all she could do to suppress the potential guilt that would swell up inside of her. After all, she had been the one foolish enough to give into her temptation and metaphorically open ‘Pandora’s box.’.

An idea sparked within the buckskin mare. Her ears perked forward and she felt the slightest hint of a smirk pass over her lips. If she had been the one to open the box, wouldn’t that make her Pandora? Wasn’t she the girl unable to resist the temptation to see what darkness lay within the sealed box? Just like the legend, she had unleashed sin upon her world. This was her rebirth. No longer would she carry the title given by her forgotten parents, it was time for her to use the name that befitted her wicked heart. Pandora. A soul who’s curiosity tainted and destroyed, leaving only hope locked within her box.

Pandora was the new soul rising from the ashes of her previous self. Images of the fire and flame dimmed in her mind. A light of determination flashed into her eyes. Fate had obviously brought her to this place, for it was her time to begin again. Time for her to live with a soul consumed with darkness.

“No,” she stopped. Her soul and essence was not darkness. Truly when she thought about it, her soul was somewhere between the light and the dark. “Dusk…” She murmured to herself. “My soul belongs to the dusk.”

A light breeze rustled the trees, she watched the branches dance about in the wind. They were beckoning her, luring her deeper into the clutches of the land they were rooted to. A snicker sneaked passed her lips and a sneer grew upon her face.

“Bring Pandora in deeper, and watch her consume.” She whispered as she stopped and gazed at the tree. “See her sins follow behind.”
