shards beneath our feet

“BREACH!”

One of them called out. The sound of hissing and coughing bounced off of the walls of the cave. Their hearts pounded inside of their chest as they heard the roaring getting closer. Everything that they had worked so hard to keep out was now making its way back in. The survivors were bunched up in a corner of their shelter. Fear was apparent in all of their faces. They could now hear the hoof steps of the walkers.

Adira stood apart from the other survivors. While they were all fear-stuck in the corner, pretty much waiting to just die, this mare held her knife in her jaws. She was ready to fight them off. She would fight them off to save the others. The blood stained girl held a straight face and took a step away from the quivering bunch. You could now see their shadows, slowing getting closer and closer. She took another step forward. They were here. Oh shit… there were a lot.

Adira’s emerald and citrine orbs shifted. Her ears twitched and her tail flicked. This place seemed quite. Too quite. She had not seen one walker ever since she had come into this forest. Perhaps they have not found this land yet. They would though. The infection would spread over to here. Once one has it, everyone has it.

The sun stroked the land filling it with a lovely warmth. Birds flew above the tree tops and chirped to each other. A breeze cooled the day, weaving through the trees and rustling through the leaves. It was a peaceful day. Hmm… It had been a long time since the blood-stained mare had ever come across a day like this. It seemed as if she could but sit back and relax. She had almost forgotten the feeling of relaxation. She always was on the lookout, but now it seemed safe. Safe, that was another feeling that she had almost forgotten.

The sound of birds happily singing filled the air and wind swished. The cold metal of Adira’s katana pressed against her side. Bottomless orbs glanced back, expiating to see one of the repulsive decaying bodies of a walker. Her muscles clenched tightly and she got ready to grab the sword that was swung around her neck. Though, there was no need to do so. Her nerves relaxed she let out a soft sigh of relief. There was none of that direful choking and gaging sound, but only the tranquil song of the nature. Maybe… Just maybe, it was different here.

“Talk talk talk”

This is it, the Apocalypse
I’m waking up
