TORLEIK
Death follows into your watery grave

Torleik grunted, roused from sleeping by a decidedly irksome brightness. Cracking open his glacial blue eyes he groggily looked around. Why was everything so high? Ah. He was lying on the ground, next to his egg. It was not daytime. What was going on? The light came again and he squinted, eyes highly displeased. What in the nine hells? Turning his attention away from the mouth of his cave, Torleik realized the light was not coming from outside, but from within his simple home.

From within the egg he had been given charge of.

Confused and worried, the stallion shifted carefully so as not to crush the egg, pressing his nose against the shell. It was warm - he always made sure it was warm at night by keeping it next to him, covered in grasses within its nest. The light pulsed once more from within and he drew his muzzle back, the warmth of the shell too much for his sensitive skin. Torleik could see more clearly the little creature within, more so than the usual dim glow the orb gave off. It was squirming, pecking, trying to get out.

His little griffin was hatching!

Suddenly aware of the gravity of this event, Torleik wished he knew how to help the little creature get out. He could almost feel its frustration. How long had it been doing this before it had awakened him, Torleik wondered...

A crack appeared in the egg's exterior and he smiled. "Come, little one. You can do it..." the stallion encouraged, feeling a frisson of anxiety run through his nerves when the crack suddenly melted away and half the egg dripped onto the ground. Griffins could melt things? This was...wings and fire...Torleik didn't know if putting himself in charge of this tiny creature was the wisest idea. Perhaps he had made a mistake.

A soft, purring little trill reached the dual-horned demon's ears and his doubts were erased. Now there was no fancy behind it - he could feel what this little creature was feeling somehow, and it was confused, and cold, and hungry. Clicking it's beak, the griffin tumbled out of the egg in an ungainly lurch but quickly righted itself, its golden eyes finding Torleik's blue ones. The stallion experienced an odd sort of warm joy spreading through the base of his skull, and the griffin made a pleased little purr, trundling in his direction.

It managed to climb over one of Torleik's forelegs and settled itself firmly against the large stallion's chest, puffing its feathers and basking in the warmth he provided. Pleasure filtered into his brain like the trickle of a drug, and Torleik wondered if this was what Ophelia meant by being bonded to Tinek, her dragon, this...mental link. His chest felt swollen with affection for this little creature who had suddenly decided to ignore its hunger for the time being, the warmth lulling it back into a state of sleep after the effort it had expended to free itself from the egg.

Blue eyes inspected the creature, fascinated with this amalgam of bird and feline. The noises it made thus far were decidedly avian, but it moved on all fours like a beast. Very softly, he pressed his muzzle to the babe and laid his head to rest next to his forelegs. When it awoke, he would feed it. How long before he knew what gender? Would he have to wait for the griffin to become self-aware that way? So many questions.

But, as he watched his little companion sleep, he knew they could wait until morning.

[[OOC: Just wanted to write something to get back in the groove, and I figured starting with Torleik getting his widdle baby griffin would be a good place :D]]
