The humidity and heat of the season had some interesting side-effects - namely, the surpluss of electricity in the air, which was a breeding ground for thunderstorms. Above her, the sky snarled ominously, occasional flashes illuminating the distant horizon; the mare's tail lashed against her flanks with anticipation as she felt the first spots of rain land on her flanks. It did not occur to her to take shelter, as she was born of the storm - instead she gazed up at the black skies, heavy with the promise of torrential rain and seething rage. She shuddered, shutting her eyes and quivering with delight as the downpour washed over her, accompanied by a wicked snarl of thunder and a flash of lightning. She was no fool, and kept her horn angled slightly down so that the sizzling electricity would not see reason to use it as a path to the ground. Within seconds the storm was upon her in full, drenching her and raging around her as she watched in awe. Nothing - no man, no mountain, no horizon - could compare to the savage beauty of the storm, and Nyx absorbed every glorious moment of it.
All too soon, it was over. The skies lightened, the rain eased, and the silver mare flicked her ears in displeasure as she watched it roil to the distant heavens. With a dismayed sigh, the mare took in her surroundings for the first time. She hadn't noticed where she was wandering to - she didn't tend to pay much attention, now her herd was gone and she was effectively a nomad - and had simply followed the path of the storm as one of its loyal minions. She was in a forest, the canopy dripping onto her back as she walked slowly, carefully, not trusting anything; she'd had far too many close encounters with wolves to be so easily lulled into security. Cautiously she lifted a leg and relaxed, deciding to rest here for a moment before she continued her aimless path to nowhere. "" |
