Her father's ears pinned and Nyx instinctively flinched away, her neck lowering in submission and clear apology. She really wasn't a particularly tactful mare, prone to saying the wrong thing, and it would be just her luck if she alienated her father so soon after reuniting with him. He accepted Lace's invitation and the girl sagged in relief; oh, it would be a mercy to be part of a herd again. The nomadic lifestyle wasn't for her; like any equine, she craved company. Living alongside her father and loyal Lace would be a blessing. Nato spoke to the dragon as well, but Nyx could not get past her wariness of the fang-filled piece of weaponry: they were so unnatural, and she did not trust them an inch.
Lace was honest, brutally so. She would be on her guard, not that there was ever a time when she wasn't. "It sounds beautiful, Lace. I look forward to seeing it." She craved the Woodlands, her birthplace and her home. Her previous herd had lived on the plains, an endless expanse of flat savannah that spread from horizon to horizon, save the lumps of distant mountains. The grey woman hungered for the forest, and the sweet smell of the sea. She listened in stoic silence as Lace and Nato conversed, not understanding who they spoke of - she had not socialised much with Isilmians before she had left the land, given how young she had been. Lace was keen to be off, and Nyx was equally keen to follow; she gave a small buck of high spirits, kicking up her heels as she followed the man and his dragon. Before she left, she flashed a warm smile to the black colt with the red markings, feeling bad at how they had ignored him - her gaze fell then on her father before returning to the path ahead as the three of them headed home. |
