Jorogumo
The sun is old on water, yearling flakes came whirling by.

Pride kept the dark filly going throughout the long journey from the forest. Over time her small body began to ache, but she persevered without complaint or obvious strain. She did her best to stay within step of the golden mare. When the break came she revered in the moment to eat, drink, and rest her body. Every word the mare spoke Jorogumo took in and committed to memory, especially the ones that she told during their brief break. Already this mare was appearing wiser in the art of survival than what Yuki-Onna . As the duo journeyed north, Jorogumo found herself facing an unfamiliar chill, but she had expected such cold coming from a place so far north. In time her body would adapt, but for now she would push past the cold.

Jorogumo memorized the path to what was soon to be her home, in case she were to ever wander from it. Off in the distance she could see the sun pulling over the horizon, a triumphant feeling filled her chest. She had made it through the night, and with the protection of the cold home she would For the time being she planned to stay close, meet the other inhabitants of the Basin and pick and choose who was worth trusting. As of that moment, only Kisaki could be trusted in her mind. She had been the one to find her and pull her from what could’ve very well been her end. There was a good chance the golden mare had alternate motives, but Jorogumo’s child mind, though intelligent, couldn’t read that deeply.

The sun was high above their head now, and Jorogumo found herself longing for sleep after the journey. Soon this was forgotten by the foreign place in front of her. Jorogumo left Illynx’s side and went ahead and glanced about her new home. The clearing was magnificent and would be far more of a home to her than the cave Shinigami deemed shelter. Part of her now wanted to find a place to close her heavy eyes an sleep, but the excitement of this strange place had taken hold of her. Not only that, the excitement of the strange beings that walked this land as well. Jorogumo was not a social creature, but for once she was interested in the other inhabitants, she even hoped that maybe other children would emerge. Never before had he child had a playmate, and the very idea appealed to her.

Insecurity also got the best of her. Would these others like her? If there were other children would they want to be around her? An endless array of thoughts of rejection ran through her mind. She looked down at the ground, overwhelmed with the fear of rejection. Small tears appeared in her eyes, but she forced them back. Crying was a display of weakness, and the child “Watashi wa tsuyoku naru,” She whispered to herself. Pale eyes drifted back up and she straightened herself up despite her exhaustion. Let them come, and they will how strong she was. Finally she decided she would address the golden mare after he long silence. “This place is gorgeous Kisaki.” A large smile had passed over the dark child’s lips and her pale eyes lit up with a joy that hadn’t been there previously.
