Jorogumo
The sun is old on water, yearling flakes came whirling by.

Jorogumo listened attentively as the golden mare spoke. Playmates, what a strange yet exciting thought, especially the fact they were of her age. No more asking adults to play with her, she could engage in proper playtime. Yuki-Onna always spoke to her in such ridiculous tones like she was a buffoon. Of course, Jorogumo wasn’t aware of the fact not every child held the same level of intelligence as she, and in due time she may have found many of them to be quite stupid, as she did believe many adults to be incompetent.

A strange scent filled Jorogumo’s nostrils and her head turned as a stranger approached. Her ears perked forward and the dark filly took in the details of the approaching stranger. The joyful expression faded from her face and shifted into one of solemn suspicion. With the stranger, came a strange creature. The filly unconsciously took a step closer toward Illynx’s side, in case the strange creature is vicious, though she found it highly unlikely such a thing would happen considering Illynx seemed to be quite alright with the presence of the fox.

Pale eyes just watched the other mare in silence as she introduced herself. Lena, and the peculiar little fox thing was Imogen. Both very odd names, everyone seemed to have odd names. The mare dipped her head closer, and Jorogumo locked eyes with her in her fearless fashion. “I am Jorogumo,” The spider child responded to the mare’s question. The filly‘s eyes flicked back to Imogen. “Why does that fox follow you around?” Her eyes didn’t leave the peculiar little creature. Even though she at times acted far older than she was, she was a still a child. Maybe the fox was some kind of spirit, but from the little creature’s behavior s didn’t seem mischievous.

There was so much to take in within this new place, and Jorogumo wanted to learn everything about it. She wanted to know the stories of the mountains, what spirits roamed about, whatever it as she wanted to know. One day she would realize what power had knowledge had, but at this point, her child mind just wanted to satisfy curiosity and explore. After a good rest she would explore, maybe with the absence of a mother she could do whatever she wanted. What fun it should be! She could do whatever she wanted, unless Illynx and the others of the herd chose to keep her under close supervision. Would they be as consumed as her mother was? Kisaki had an empire to run, not spend time chasing a child. Especially a child that was not her own. Jorogumo already admired the mare, but she didn’t believe her to be mother and nor did she believe this mare to think of her as a daughter. All of the thoughts of mother and father brought back the heartache. It was still a hard thought to believe that her mother and father had left her. Jorogumo had survived though, and was more than capable.

“How many others live here?” Jorogumo asked out of the blue. “Are there only a couple? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands?” There were a thousand more questions swirling about and waiting at the edge of her tongue. She decided to let another one slip past her tongue, she just wanted to know. “What are the other herds like here? Are they weak or strong? Do they like the Basin or do they not?” One question turned into three, and as soon as that happened, she felt an ear twitch back a bit. “I… I shoudn’t be asking questions, I’m sorry.” Her mothers words lurked back in her mind. Questions was a sign of doubt, and doubt wasn’t devotion. She wanted her new home to see that she was truly devoted.

"blah blah blah."
