The forest was eerily quiet as the frosted girl crossed the border and reentered the land of her birth. How many times in her three years had she crossed back and forth through the Threshold? At one point she could remember the Threshold forest feeling more like home than anywhere else. She felt an emptiness with the absence of Tarak, his incessant clicking and whirring having been silenced forever in a land far south of Helovia. Snö had known very little love, but she had loved the machine like it had been a companion. Would the emptiness she felt be ten-fold had the metal wolf actually been a living, breathing, flesh-and-blood wolf? Steps ceased and the varnished mare stared at the empty spot to the left of her and vowed once again in her mind that she would kill Felcie for taking away the only thing she'd had left.

Dried leaves crunched under her cloven hooves as she began to walk once more through the trees rather than follow the well worn path that had been traversed by thousands of weary travelers as they searched for a place to call home or simply a place to rest their tired bones for a night. Snö, herself, was tired, but she did not stop moving to rest because she knew she would want to nap and she could not afford to stop moving. Felcie would be searching for her and he would not stop until he found her again and finally either killed her or made her a slave in the stead of the equines she had released to spite him. Do not be mistaken, Snö did not fear the stallion or his posse that tracked her. She was not scared that they would hurt her, they already had. The only thing that she feared was that she would die before she could kill Felcie.

No one destroyed her stuff and Tarak had been hers and hers alone.

For now, however, Snö wandered through the Threshold, sometimes back tracking over her path to throw Felcie's hounds off of her trail. In her wanderings she found a creek that she figured came down from the mountains that sandwiched the forest. The girl did not hesitate as she stepped into the creek, the cool water rising to her knees, and walked. Her ears continuously rotated atop her refined head as she listened for any noise and her nostrils flared as she breathed in the scent of the forest any anyone who might be lurking in the trees. Now the question of where she would go and where should she go lingered in her mind and mocked her because she felt as if she had no real home in Helovia.
