They say that with age comes wisdom.

Well, that's complete bullshit.

The stallion thought as he trotted on his way. He didn't know where he was going. he knew he shouldn't be leaving the dragons throat at the moment, but he couldn't stand it any more. He had not seen Sia since they'd joined the herd together. He'd come along with her to keep her safe, not so she could run off by herself again. Even with the return of the sun, it was still too dangerous for the little filly to be out there by herself.

The stallion had come out here to look for her, to at least make sure she was okay, and as he had traveled farther north, the effects of orangemoon had been more obvious. As of right now, he was trotting through a Thistle Meadow that was covered in a layer of frozen dew. It had yet to melt because the sun was not quite over the cnopy of trees that marked the dark forest border in the distance. As such, the sky was pale yellow and pink and the stallion was shrouded in long, stretching shadows.

He slowed to a stop in front of a stream and lowered his head to drink some of the icy water. His breath came out in steam and caused ripples to spread across the already bubbling stream and laughed to himself when he lifted his head and water dripped from his muzzle. The icy water hit his stomach like a kick in the guts, but there was nothing he could do about it- it was this or nothing, and the stallion didn't think he could go on for much longer without something to quench his thirst.

Raising his head, he let out a snort and shook his mane to shake off the water dripping off his muzzle before it froze to the tips of his whiskers. Looking for his daughter had taken him far from the borders of the Dragon's Throat, and while he now felt accustomed to having so many companions surrounding him at all times, he was thoroughly enjoying the solitude. The silence allowed him the ability to think quietly for once and he found himself able to reflect on his life. So much had happened in his life, and not all of it he could comprehend. he was the product of a forbidden romance, raised by whom he had once called brother... although now that he knew the truth he realized how foolish he had been not to notice the connection between himself and who he now knew as his father.

He had lived most of his entire life trying to live up to a legacy when he had no idea how profound the legacy really was, and in the end had not even come close to doing it justice. In all honesty, he thought himself a failure. He had failed as a brother, had failed as a son, and now that he had lost Sia, he was failing as a father as well. This trail of thoughts made the stallion lower his head in the beginnings of depression.

On any other day, Roy would not be feeling this way. Actually, he would be, but he was a master at hiding his real self. Lying about yourself came easy when your whole life has been built on a lie. Roy had not expected it to hurt so much, but it did. For the first time in his short life, the stag was having trouble controlling his anguish. He was only glad that he was alone because that meant no one would see him like this.

Or... so he thought.
