Still unsure what filth exactly had consumed the surface of Helovia, the warrior crept wearily from The Sanctuary’s gaping mouth and launched with haste into the whirling wind beyond. Veci had departed firstly to scout ahead, his from untouchable and invisible, without risk of stirring the interest of those rotting souls who had become so terribly infected by the darkness. They rose together into the eerie quiet which had cloaked Helovia’s Heart; not a soul moved upon the parched clay earth, still littered with the shining lure of unreachable gems; no sound broke the discomforting silence suspended there, like the calm before the storm- and Hector was glad to part with the alien area which felt so suddenly alien and unwelcoming.

They travelled north towards the Threshold, the first mission assigned since there descent into the subterranean world which sheltered them from the wrath of evil hunting those foolish enough to stay in their falling homelands- there was no longer trust in the might of their defence (the wall, the army), the Sun God had sent to the Sultans of Dragon’s Throat a grim warning that this shadow was unbeatable. While the giant orange creature was not frightened of that unknown threat snapping veraciously all around, he was concerned for the welfare of the herd; nervous about the future facing them all. Though bountiful were the resources hidden beneath the surface, it seemed so unnatural for their kind- his winged kin particularly who thrived on the ecstasy of wind-tussled feathers, to live cave-ridden.

That was not his responsibility though; certainly he had not the right to pass any judgement on the decision faced, that seemed so unavoidable.

As the infamous region of old spindly redwoods tumbled at last below the reach of his airborne forelimbs, Hector sent his companion down to assess the area and find perhaps any Pegasi who were wandering blindly so close to danger. He knew not whether the Threshold was safe still, but as he circled above, that feeling of repulsion and foreboding began to fade a little. In fact, the lower he dipped towards the forest, and with no negative projection from the spectre trawling below, it seemed more likely that this was perhaps the last of Helovia’s untouched wildernesses.

‘Pegasus here...’ Echoed suddenly through his mind and he knew right away that Veci had found one wandering. Rapidly he fell into the sparse canopy, folding his wings to avoid their damage or snagging; fiery eyes picking the multi-toned female with ease. Should not have the Boggart been with him, perhaps the search might not have been so short-lived.

Sturdy round hooves were comforted by the suppleness of the needle laden soil as they landed artfully a considerate distance from the stranger. Settling once more upon strapping legs, Hector’s flame engulfed wings tucked loosely, readily against each flank; the stallion strode with swift confidence forward- urging his companion to watch all around for those hungry wraiths. "Greetings," he hailed the mare warmly, though always concern rushed his voice. "I am Hector and I have been sent by the Kings of Dragon’s Throat to bring you to safety. Foul creatures have been turned loose upon these lands and I fear it is not safe for us to linger long."

A respectful but firm nod concluded his unorthodox invitation, and the long leonine tail snapped warily to his brawny rear as he seized the following moments to scan the nearby tree line with both straining ears, and clever eyes. Already the Pegasus mare’s wings were unfurled, so perhaps she too was aware of Helovia’s sickness; maybe she was preparing to flee.
