Even underground new lives couldn't be snuffed out. Evangeline stood watching Tallis as he flew frantically around the cave as if he were searching for something. He seemed intent and focused despite his erratic movements and flight. "What are you doing, Tallis?" She questioned the dragon as he disappeared down a hallway. "Hunting." Came his answer. "Must find food." He came back to where she was standing then darted off in the direction of the Sanctuary entrance. When he didn't come back right away Evangeline began to follow him, frowning as she saw his orange form disappear into the daylight that poured in from the entrance. She waited where she was, not brave enough to venture outside of the cave, and several minutes later Tallis reappeared with a dead animal dangling from his jaws.

"What's that?" She questioned as he zipped past her with the ball of blood and fur he was carrying. "Rabbit." He answered as he disappeared again. Evangeline's head tilted as Tallis flew back toward her, circled around and grabbed a fistful of her mane and tugged on it. She took a step in the direction he wanted her to go then stopped and he tugged on her mane again. "Come on! Not much time! Go!"

Tallis released his bonded's mane and flew down the hall again with her trotting after him, a new concern growing in her chest with each step she took. Not much time? The first thing that came to mind was that more of the darkness was coming so she was completely surprised when she came upon a young mare. Evangeline stopped in her tracks and looked from her to the young dragon on the floor of the cave among the shell fragments that he had just hatched from.

A flash of orange made Evangeline's eyes lift toward her dragon as he circled overhead, each pass bringing him lower and lower until he settled his larger body on the floor of the cave. He moved toward the hatchling, dropping the dead rabbit next to it and nudging it forward with his snout. "Eat." He said in a language that the hatchling would understand then looked toward Evangeline who was walking closer. "Hello." She said to the younger girl. "I'm Evangeline and he is Tallis." She motioned to the orange dragon who had gone back to watching the hatchling intently. "Congratulations."
