Slaiter
Searchers after horror haunt strange, far places.
-H.P. Lovecraft

It has been a long run, a hard run, racing through forests and across plains, but they finally reach an odd cave. Slaiter balks at first, not so much at the cave itself, but at the scents and sounds that fill it. There are others here, a lot of others, and the skittish stallion has never liked crowds, generally because the crowds have never liked him. But his companions do not seem overly worried, and so he reluctantly follows them inside. It does not take long for his eyes to adjust to the unusual lighting, and again the boy spooks, this time at the massive crystal wall and the lava flowing on the other side. The wall looks strong enough, but there is no guarantee that it is safe. What if it breaks? He doesn't want to die in a flood of molten rock, and as usual he contemplates running. Yet, Tangere had told him he would be safe here, and he trusts her. If she says this is a safe place, he will believe her.

What is he supposed to do now? They are here, and he supposes that is good, even if he doesn't approve of the location and the crowds, but now what? Are they free to do as they wish, or is there some leader to report to? Can he ever leave, or must he stay, hidden away under earth and fire until the outside danger passes? Confused and agitated, he lashes his tail like a large cat and hooves begin to skitter as muscles tense.

He turns to Tangere, just as he had in the Threshold, trusting her to know the answers. After all, she is the one who lead him here, and the other mare. He thinks it's a mare anyway, but cannot be certain as he never got a chance to properly look at or smell the stranger. He doesn't much care either way, but he thinks it is something he should know if this other is a friend of Tangere. But first, as always, he waits to see what will happen.

He is good at watching and waiting.
