Lakota
The Poisoner

Once more her name is called out, and she steels herself, taking a deep breath. From behind comes the sound of heavy hooves, and she turns her head, gaze falling on the massive form of Archibald. Relief fills her face and she turns towards him, eyes softening as she gives a sigh of gratitude to see him safe and at her side. "Archibald," she breathes in return, slowing to reach her muzzle up towards the taller figure, hoping to brush it against the curve of his neck. "I am glad you are safe, Archibald," she murmurs, shifting her shoulders and striding towards the cave entrance with more courage than before. With him at her side, she felt emboldened, remembering the days when they had fought side by side to take their home together. Archibald was a fine warrior, and if Lakota had to choose anyone to face the shadow demons above ground with her, it would be him.

Together they walk out of the protection of the Sanctuary, facing their ex-Chieftess as a team. Ktulu has no care for her, it seems, instead calling Archibald's name. She watches her silently, tries to see a face other than Ktulu's, hear a voice that doesn't belong to the one she loves. If she can manage that, it won't hurt as much, to see the hatred on her face, to be ignored in favor of the powerful brute beside her. She wants to shrink away, but instead she feels her emotions slide away from her visage, braces her shoulders. She could not be weak, not when Ktulu was relying on her, whether she wanted the help the Poisoner offered or not.

It does nothing to prepare her for the mocking, belittling tone that strikes into her ears like a knife of self-doubt. Lakota wishes to bow her head, hide away from the words she spits poisonously her way. Wasn't that supposed to be her forte? But she does not, because she is undeserving, and she forces herself to look as Ktulu turns, shows the rotten flesh and melting insides, the black organs and ivory bones. It makes her want to be sick, but she manages to choke down the whimper, refusing to let anything show on her face but a pained flicker of sadness. The obvious flirtation directed at Archibald was only another stake in the heart, but instinct still told her to move towards Ktulu to help her as she began to cough. If it weren't for Archibald standing between the two, she might have, for her heart still demanded she take care of the Constrictor.

When she growled at one last insult, Lakota whispered to Archibald. "Now!" She jumped out from behind him, mist rising at her command, the poison of choice ready to weaken and dizzy the mare before her. It was a quick surge of fog, just as quickly ended so as not to be inhaled unwittingly by Archibald as well. Surging forward she tries to imagine anyone but Ktulu as she reaches up and out, teeth aiming to grip the Constrictor's mane. Simultaneously she shoves her right shoulder right behind Ktulu's left, trying to force her forward towards the mouth of the cave. Her eyes went to Archibald, knowing the surprise wouldn't last long, and prayed her magic would still work despite the dissolving organs resting in the caverns of the other mare's body.
