The agitated pony startled as another horned colt stepped out from the shadows. Punk ass kids… she thought with disdain, casting a withering stare at the quiet intruder. Where were these colts’ parents, anyways? Did these unicorns not supervise their young as equines do? This darker newcomer was oozing anger; his words confirmed it was directed at the flippant white brute. His braggadocio was obnoxious, sure, but it was hard to take him too seriously. Moniz listened with growing skepticism as he launched into his bold speech reeking of superiority. Having decided she would not be taking this odd colt seriously, she now moved to stand confidently by this choice. She rolled her eyes dramatically at the foal speaking of power, like a citydweller advising a third-generation farmer on how to raise his crops. “Darling, what do you think you know of power?” She droned belittlingly, finishing with a dismissive bark of a laugh. But now Moniz turned to the bay with his silvery eyes, watching him warily. She had labelled the white boy – Crake, as he finally named himself. She knew what she thought of him. She had formed her opinion and felt confident she knew how to handle him. This other colt was not yet compartmentalized into the pony’s mental filing cabinet, and she wanted to figure out where he fit. She muttered irritably, “I’m not some unicorn babysitting service, you know. Ma and Pops must be worried sick about the two of you…” The sarcasm spilled heavily from her voice as she glared at the youngsters, hoping they were not so dense that they would miss her not-so-subtle hint to scram. @[Roux] |
