He stared intently into the darkness with bated breath. The entirety of the lithe body spoke of reluctance where he stood, balancing just on the threshold of the vast cave. Behind him the hum of people reverberated through the caverns, mixing with the dimly glowing light-sources that cast a multi-colored sheen upon the gray rump. Before him... was only emptiness. The pit was a void, oblivion itself in this physical world. It was darkness and silence, peace and rest from the eternal presence of mortals and their sound, scent, touch and sight - even the feed was starting to taste of them, despite their best efforts to keep the tunnels sanitized and clean. No such thing existed in the dark nothingness that rested between these walls. Once before had the colt stepped into the cool embrace of it, initially intrigued by the robbing of his senses. But something had evoked the malice slumbering beneath the soft sands, something that had scared him from his senses. In hindsight he realized that it might have been the mare that were in the room with him, contrary to his belief at the time - yet something, he wasn't sure what, insisted that the source of the sound that had startled him was not caused by any mortal. The problem was that even if he ventured into the depths of this wicked void again, he wouldn't be able to see what was happening around him. Even if the source of the whispering, rustling sand appeared again he would be left to its mercy, incapable of seeing what it was. The light from the fire that sometimes let him move from place to place in a heartbeat was too brief to be of use and he couldn't think of anything else that might be of use. Thus he lingered on the edge of darkness with the tail thrashing irritatedly, wanting - but not quite daring - to once again let shadows claim him. Such a curse it was, curiosity... @[Tandavi] |
