I listen to the god as he addresses each individual in the group. This demeanor, so gentle and what seems to be kind, is so foreign to me. I have seen the Father shed his mercy upon his followers, but I've seen him unleash his fury at the slightest misstep. Perhaps this god has fury that burns bright like the Father's, but I hope to never find out.
The god answers me and I look up at him, still not meeting his gaze out of respect. "Thank you m'lord,' I say with a low dip of my head. I then lower my gaze once more. All others who gaze directly at him seem to come to no punishment.
He asks a question and I take it in syllable by syllable and slowly dissect it. Others answer before me, and I listen, disagreeing with much of the naïveté that passes from their lips. But maybe that was the case, so I will not voice my opinion on their views. Once a filly gives her answer I look up at the god.
"Is there always a why?" I ask, perhaps a bold statement but over all my experience this has become a solid question. "I came to Helovia in the thick of the darkness. I did see kindness from strangers that saved me from the Threshold with no gain for themselves.. Maybe Helovia was always that way, maybe it wasn't I wouldn't know. This darkness to me came because there are things out of our control. We always ask ourselves 'why is this happening to me', but often there isn't a reason it just does. Perhaps an ignorant or pessimistic answer, but I believe the darkness happened because of a malevolent presence, not because of karma or to teach equality."
