DALIBOR
I am someone to hate

Discovering that remaining in the caves with everyone else would only drive him insane, Dalibor decided he’d risk whatever this infection was and take to the surface again. Surely only the weak were infected, those who did not know how to fight, to fend for themselves. He was a warrior. He would come out of this just like he had every other battle: alive.

So he ascended, as a Pegasus should, to the top of the earth; no winged creature should be under the ground. Not unless he was dead. The air was cold and tasted of ash and bitterness, though he saw no signs of a fire. Some pervasive miasma from the infection that plagued the land, perhaps. Maybe this was how the infection started, breathing it into your lungs from the putrid ground?

The stallion knew he was ignorant of this spreading sickness and realized that maybe his irritation with others was unfounded. Maybe they knew the only safe way to remain normal was to remain underground where the air wasn’t tainted. But the caves were open to the outside…the air was not special down there either. Still, each breath tasted foul and Dalibor wished to be on this earth no longer.

So he left it. A quick trot brought him into a powerful takeoff, wings flapping with force to lift his compact but muscular frame into the air. His altitude increased quickly; surely the air up here wasn’t polluted like the rest? A hungry gulp confirmed this hypothesis and Dalibor breathed easier, feeling less…threatened by this unseen enemy. The air currents carried him toward the sea, and a flicker of movement in his peripheral vision caught his hawkish eyes. Another Pegasus?

Tilting his wings to take him towards this newfound being, Dalibor came within a cautious distance. “Your name!” he called out, not a greeting, but a demand. He was a suspicious sort at first.
