I know your wavering heart, intimately</style>

Since reassured that Vadim was safe and sound in the Sanctuary, the spotted fae had been a lot more comfortable within the bowels of the earth. Vadim was perhaps her only friend, and she worried constantly for the quiet boy. He was so interesting to her, and she enjoyed his quiet, easy-going nature, even if they rarely spoke because of it. Did he enjoy her presence as well, or was it just a matter of coincidence that they continued to bump into one another? Was it considered annoying by him? But Nayati was a mix of realist and optimist, and she did not let such dark thoughts drag her down into the depression she worked so hard to fix. She was a broken doll on the inside, but she'd cast aside those shattered pieces in hopes of wiping all memories of her past, creating a new her, a new life. Most days she managed, while others she would collapse inside herself, crying and wailing at the unfairness of it all.

But even if she tried to give the quiet colt his space, Rathunax was not so accommodating, for once he discovered Nayati actually had a friend he was determined to keep track of the quiet brute. And as Nayati, newly refreshed from a nap in the crystal cavern, awoke once more her companion was quick to send her the message. Of course, without words he could not, but images of a shuddering egg and Vadim's wide eyes had her jumping to snowy hooves quickly. Baubles bounced and jingled in a frantic rhythm as she hurried through the caverns on slim legs to find the poor befuddled unicorn, taking mental nudges from Rathunax to find him in the glowing room. He was staring down at a creature emerging from its egg, and Nayati's eyes glowed happily when she recognized the odd little mammal, only to giggle prettily as Vadim backpedaled away from the newborn. It was in vain, for the companion was soon wrapped round his ankle rather contentedly.

Moving forward, she smiled as Rathunax dove down from one of the little trees in the room, gliding easily through the air to land upon her hindquarters. She was garnering little scars there, but it mattered little to her, especially considering the massive one upon her side. "Congratulations, Vadim," she chirruped softly, head tilting pleasantly to the side as she paused in front of him, lowering her head to get a better view of his bonded. "It's a platypus! We used to have them were I lived, they're such odd, cute little creatures," she laughed softly, only for her face to contort at the painful memories it brought up. Her original homeland. Where she was conceived and born in secrecy, hated and hidden away in shame so nobody would ever know. She'd only heard her name but a few times, and instead was called the worst of titles by her own dam. Nayati had always been closer to nature, to the animals, than to any other living being capable of speech.

the rose shadows said that they loved the sun, but they also loved the dark,
where their roots grew through the lightless mystery of the earth. the roses said: you do not have to choose.
