every day the gods are flipping coins

Who was she? A collection of memories that had started to swarm together until they made no sense or a simple girl that had been wandering on her own for too long? For certain, she remembers that she had been little more than a child when she had been entrusted with some sort of spiritual duties, like she was a priestess and the people around her were her followers. It had been a farce and a little game that she had grown up with. She had worn the mask and followed through with the actions she had been taught, and the people had been happy.

With all of that swept behind her and little more than an old, bitter taste in her mouth, she had become more than willing to step forwards into the wilderness. The leaves in the trees seemed greener, and the air smelt sweeter, perhaps even the water tasted cleaner. For years she had enjoyed the wanderer’s life, and for years she had avoided herds that cut through the forests and the fields as though they were hungry beasts. Only recently had she started wandering closer, thinking that the world outside of her little coven of horses had changed so drastically that they would not judge her or try to impress upon her.

With these thoughts rummaging through her head, she continues onwards with light steps, finding the small creek quickly and stopping next to it. It was still a quiet little thing, and it continued to babble on without a care in the world, and for a moment or two, Liit does not feel too entirely alone. Before she has a chance to dip her head forwards and drink from the cool waters, there is a sound- the soft fluttering of feet on the twigs, branches and leaves that have spilt across the forest floor. Turning her head to one side, she sees the mare. For a moment, she stares and thinks to flee, having not been approached by another horse so personally for some time now. Yet, instead, she stands still and watches, her dark eyes dropping to the other horse’s feet and watching as she approaches quietly- gently.

She comes with a greeting, and Liit thinks to what her own voice once sounded like, so hopeful and young, but perhaps now it sounds old and tired. “Hello….” She answers almost hesitantly, before there is a loud thud and yet another has joined them, this time catching Liit off guard and causing her to jerk her body away from the sound, towards Lena for a moment before stepping quickly away from them. Listening to the violent hammering of her heart in her pale breast, she turns about to look at the second creature, thankful it is another woman and that they are friendly enough.

Exhaling softly, she lets her heart slow to a normal speed as she listens to the newcomer speak, her dark eyelids closing for a moment or two as she mentally calms herself. Liit thinks she is being foolish, that she is just overreacting. She also, mentally, reaffirms to herself that she has been alone for too long, and this is the reasoning behind her skittishness. “Sorry… I’ve been alone for a long time…” Her feather soft voice answers, once Abishia has finished speaking. Liit offers a smile to both mares, first to Lena then to Abishia before speaking up again. “My name is Liit-” She hestitates for a moment. Liit was still her name, right? “- This Helovia seems a good deal larger than I am used to.” Still smiling, she chuckles softly, mostly at herself, at the sentiment. For a majority of her life, her world had consisted of those that lived around her, and when she had disappeared into the trees she had no one but the birds and the bees that zipped around her head. It seemed as though her world was to grow quite a bit larger.
